  1. I enjoy the interchange of ideas and opinions, even if they are differing. I am pretty good at filtering out things that I think are rubbish Having met many of you....I also see this forum as a more general Vegan Community forum...and appreciate that expanded scope. Events like Vegan Vacation are outstanding and really come to appreciate this community aspect....something that I cared little about when I first joined the forum. That said, I do miss that lack of focus and posting in the BB/Fitness sections...I use to learn a TON reading posts there...and sometimes go back into the archives to dig out some insights I might have missed. I wonder what it would take to attract more serious athletes to contribute to the forum? Answering that question with some creative solutions seems like a more worthwhile effort than squashing unwanted chatter (raw-food related or otherwise) in other parts.
  2. So far no, I haven't but yesterday I was really tempted, which is what made me think of the thread. I don't know why but my body was crying out for a chicken breast yesterday. I never even liked eating meat and I never have missed it one bit, so it made me wonder why I was craving this so bad (I don't even like chicken), and if I should give in because my body might be trying to tell me something. I fought off the urge and today I feel fine, but that was the only huge craving I had, so that's why I posed the thread. I have a lot of friends that tell me things like this..."their body says they need milk"..."their body craves red meat," etc. I wonder how much of that is just a deep rooted mind-body connection that hasnt been purged out...or even just a symptom of not having a nutrient rich diet. For me...I have a craving for pizza like 24x7...but I know there is nothing innately magically about pizza that my body really needs ...it's all in my mind and emotions. I have lots of happy memories eating pizza with friends and family...and this has an impact on me (consciously or subconsciously). I remember when I went raw for 2 months...my cravings went away completely. I didnt even crave cooked food! It was really bizzare. I think having a high nutrient dense (as opposed to calorically dense) diet really puts a damper on the cravings.
  3. good post veggieprincess. I've been Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian for 21 years (since I was 7 years old) and Vegan for 5 years with a 1 year break. Meat: I remember when I was 10 years old, and just came out of a dentists appointment. I hadn't eaten breakfast or lunch, and my babysitter took me out get something to eat. She got chicken wings and I got pizza. I don't know why, but she offered my a chicken wing and I ate it. Maybe it was the hormones that drove me to do that? Who knows... The only other time I've ever tasted meat (including fish, etc.) in the last 21 years was when I was 15....I was at a party and they had a cheese plate. I saw this stuff that looked (and tasted) like pepper cheese, but apparently it had bits of some sort of meat in it (unbeknowst to me). That was a total accident so I didn't feel guilty at all. Dairy/Eggs: I check labels and am good at avoiding non-vegan things now. However, I did go back to being a Lacto-Ovo-Veg after 2 years of Veganism. This lasted for a full year. I would eat pizza, have the occasional omelot, eat dessets, etc. I realized that I was doing a complete disservice to my body and to animals....so I stopped kidding myself and got back on the Vegan train. I stopped being Vegan for what (at the time) were important reasons...but after a short time it became clear that I was just being lazy. So...you can say I've been Vegan for 5 years with a 1 year hiatus. Other Stuff: I do have some leather products (belts, shoes....) so I guess in a pure-sense I am not even Vegan now! Oh well...I've never been one for labels anyway. Ravi

  7. We had the best time in Seattle. Was great hanging out with Ravi, XBillyX, LizWorld, Hero, Jessifly and Gyre. The stay was all to short....but I think we finally decided that Seattle is indeed more kick a$$ than portland for vegans! We had pillow fights using BFP's, hikes, papple napping (ask lizworld), and ate at practically every vegan spot (that was open) in the city! Can't wait to see everyone up here again. We'll have to do another Seattle (or Swedish!) VBB meetup soon. p.s. Our first set of pics are in the general meetups section of the forum. - Ravi & Lizworld. Tomorrow I fly back to Pennsylvania and will spent 8 days driving across the country...hitting up a number of national parks (Yellowstone, Zion, Grand Canyon, Rushmore, Big Horn, etc.) along the way. I'm really excited about this trip. If you know of anywhere cool to stop along my route....pls let me know....and if you live somewhere along the route...it would be cool to meetup! 20. Vegan Vacation just keeps going and going and going.... Offense74 is in town for a few days, and we took the opportunity to hit up Bamboo Garden...a cooked food Vegan's dream! (xveganjoshx eat your heart out!). We were men on a mission. Deep fried, battered, sitr-fired, spiced-up, smotherred in MSG-free sauce, tons of fake meat....it's mmmmmm, mmmmm good! I actually finished one of the large combo plates solo! This was a first for me....and a very big achievement. Now....I just gotta make some room for fresh & hot Mighty-O donuts tomorrow! Ready to dig in and start the mission. Believe it or not, I actually out-ate Offense until the final minutes....when I was passed by as I slowed down to make it through a stack of "orange chicken nuggets"..deep fried balls of gluten in an orange sauce. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1311/1058333552_976e6e8b1f.jpg "Eat Me"...you better believe it.
