  1. It honestly sounds like you did the perfect thing. Maybe call the rehab office soon and get some updates if your worried. Our bird zoo/rehad center has allowed us to check up on some of the birds we have turned in before.
  2. Has anyone read this book? I am about 1/2 way through it and get so lost in how many characters there are I sometimes I get lost and have to read back a couple chapters. That isnt the most glowing review. But this book is amazing. I laugh on almost every page. The dark humor is fantastic. Im getting the grasp of all the characters now though.
  3. I love Anderson Silva. He even made a bigger fan out of me after last nights fight! I honestly cant think of anyone in his weight class that can compete with him right now.
  4. I had an experience like this a little bit ago, but with a cat that was bit by a vehicle. I knew it wasnt long for this world, but I didnt know what to do. So I just held him in my blanket and let him die knowing someone cared for him. It was hard. My brother told me I should of broke its neck to put it out of its misery. I honestly dont know if I could of done that. You put him in a place where you believed he would be comfortable. Animals have a sense that people care for them when they are in situations like that, so maybe it helped him pass easier. You did a good thing!
  5. 1408. Best ghost movie ever. See "Memento" if you havent either. My fav all time science fiction is Dark City. A must!
  6. I want Tim Sylvia to lose because I hate him. I like seeing another 6' 8" in the ring, but god, I hate him. BUT. He has surprised me. He is so big it will be hard for anyone to clinch him, and he has shown good sprawl and even ok ground game. Anderson Silva is my man. My friends are going to kill me because they are big Rich Franklin fans. But Ill be up on my feet the whole fight cheering for Silva. He is just so accurate with his punches.
  7. I am a classic ectomorph so I always try to read different articles on how to gain mass. This is a crazy one I just read, what do you think? http://bodybuilding.com/fun/jon11.htm He says to eat almost 400 grams of protein to get big! Although he also says eat junk food and meat, so I know its not vegan oriented. But 400 grams a day? Is that insane?
  8. Honestly. I just want to be fit. Right now I dont feel as fit as I was when playing competitive sports, but I also was skinnier then. I practive martial arts 2 times a week, and weight lifting the other 3 times a week. I want to gain weight and strength but its hard for me to think about giving up martial arts. And a lot of the martial arts practices are very high intensity with a lot of cardio (kicking and punching a bag for an hour is very tiring). I probably cant have the best of both worlds. But I want to get to the point where my tall lanky frame doesnt show my ribs anymore.
  9. Ugh. Weight gain it is then. I ate like a champ this weekend then watched Rocky. He runs everywhere and got me inspired to do the same. But he has like, tons more muscle than I do haha.
  10. Good thoughts. I guess my question should go more in line like this. Boxers are bix guys, the fit ones especially. I have seen workouts and most of their include a lot of running. How do they remain so fit and big while running? I do a lot of jump roping and have found that my muscle mass never gets lost when doing this.
  11. I have been doing HIT and HIIT weight lifting sessions for the past few months and have found myself in pretty good shape. I can last longer running and not get as tired, but if I find myself sprinting for longer periods, or just going faster over a long distance I get tired. ANYWAYS. So I know there are different types of cardio your body is prepared or umprepared for. I want to start running a bit more to get some endurance behind my running. How do you maintain the muscle mass you added, while taking up running? Is it just once again a matter of how much food you intake?
  12. Puke. Just to let you know. Turkish Get Ups are probably one of the best exercises to rehabilitate injured shoulders, and to get them very very strong. They are a full body workout, but helps your shoulder stabilization immensly. Ever since I have started doing these I have had less and less injuries arond my shoulders, plus the keep seeming to get bigger and bigger. Check out this video: This gives you pretty good explanation of what it does. (ps, this is not me). Or just type in Turkish Get Up in google and see what comes up. Its best to do it with a Kettle bell, but if you cant find on a dumb bell will work. Update on my shoulders: They are getting bigger than they have ever been, and I feel stronger. I was lying down doing a stretch that puts my shoulders near my head and I never felt my shoulders against my face. Just a couple days a go I did, and it felt amazing. My left arm bothers me only a tiny bit. Im doing another push up oriented workout today I think, Ill see how it goes.
  13. Wear some extremely warm clothes and do it! I like doing HIIT while working the heavy bag. Especially while doing kicks.
  14. I usually go for New Balances. USA made and you can find tons that arent leather and vegan. They last for a while also.
  15. Oh man. Well that sucks. I was the happiest guy when he beat that piece of (expletive deleted) Tim Sylvia. So long Randy, you had some fantastic fights.
  16. Good Luck VE! It sounds like you have gone through some crazy times.
  17. Just dead lifted body weight! I knew I could do it. I was only able to do it once though. I need to buy more plates. I guess my new goal with dead lifting is to get 1 1/2 my body weight now. So that would be 285# I believe. Maybe by March
  18. I couldnt even image being that big! The most I have ever weighed is 210. And that took me not doing any cardiovascular, no martial arts, in fact, I couldnt even dead lift or squat. I had surgery on my knee and all I did was upper body exercises. I believe most if not all was fat(i was eating at least 1 loaf of bread a day), because my arms look much bigger now than they did then. With the speed/technique squatting, do I get just a very low weight and blast through it? Ill try to get a video up soon. Warning though, Im SKINNY! Haha.
  19. What is everyones goals? Im about a year into discovering power lifting and about 3 months into doing it seriously. By the end of the year I want to be able to dead lift my own body weight. Which honestly seems to be a attainable goal. Each week I dead lift I see to be busting through my 1RM. I just bought more plates also, so that will help. I also want to be able to squat my own weight by the end of the year. But that seems unattainable. Maybe by March or April. I weight 190 and am 6 foot 8. So squats are rather hard for my long legs. I can squat about 110 right now and thats tough. This isnt exactly power lifting. But I am hoping by the middle of next year I can do a Turkish Get Up at 100# each arm. I have given up on bench pressing. It seems ALL my shoulder injuries occur while benching. Im afraid to get back into, but I want the strength in the body that uses this motion. I want to get up to benching my own body weight, but me being afraid of injury it will probably take me a couple years!
  20. Bananas Spinach Brocolli Onions Flaxseed Oil Olive Oil Avocados!!! Sunflower Seeds Hemp Protein. Mmmm.
  21. Just a thought. Merging the Raw Food section into a general Nutrition and Food section isnt a very good idea. We see how many people have debates, sometimes leading to a form of verbal abuse recently over raw foods. Wouldnt have a Raw Food section with other Nutrition sections make this even worse? At least when It has its own forum the people who want to stay away from it can.
  22. I skimmed through it a little - and unless I'm missing something - it's not at all vegan friendly... One of the main reasons I follow a vegan life style is for the health benefits - and according to this website, we're healthier when following an omnivorous diet and we were meant to be omnivores... It seems to me they're attempting to debunk veganism in general just as much as raw food veganism... I guess sometimes it's good to look at it from both sides, but this site isn't very encouraging... ???? Well no your right....I mean anybody can fail at something then trash it, if he was successful at it he would of been singing it's praises! This site has been around for years infact it was one of the first websites on Fruitarianism that I came across when I first started out, man it broke my heart because I felt so good but this guy was saying it was not healthy, well needless to say I carried on anyway, then later found out that basically he messed up all by himself, he didn't take care of himself and messed up then trashed the lifestyle, it's pretty much the anti-raw vegans go to site because he pretty says what they want to hear to back up their opinions. Which is cool because all is fair in love and war but the new raw vegans that don't know any better need to know that there's hope! Check this out!!! http://www.ecologos.org/tb.htm As I was reading the fruitarian section I was thinking of you Bigbwii! Like I stated above, I like the website, and I love being raw, but sometimes its nice to get a second opinion about things :/
  23. This is ran mostly in part by vegans, veggies, and raw foodists. They are taking a more down to earth approach to debunk general myths that vegans to raw people say about their diet. That it isnt the be all end all health goal. I do agree on the vegan aspect of it, because I didnt go vegan for health, I went for animal rights, the health just followed. But it helps many people recognize like with any diet they have to take things carefully or end up unhealthy. Its nice reading about the negative raw aspects because most of the information out there, like many have said here, is personal and sometimes filled with holes that may work for one person, but not others. This website helps explain in more scientific down to earth ways why raw can be good and why it can be bad, instead of heads up in the clouds opinions that I have found in a lot of raw books, that say all cooked food is poison. That to me seem more of a turn off that scientifically looking into the diet.
  24. Health Freak. I feel this also. It gets cold here and it has already snowed once in the city. Especially during winter it feels my body needs much more food to stay active than usual. So I gave my self some foods that I dont mind being heated during winter to eat. I may organic from scratch soup when I feel I need something, and I cook some potatos (easier to digest cooked than raw) and still feel wonderful. I used to feel guilty by this but I started reading this web site: http://www.beyondveg.com/ and it put the vegan/raw/veggie diet in perspective for me. How we should be the ones eating our food, and not the food eating us because of to many restrictions. ~shrugs~ But I do injest my fair share of oils and avocados during winter!
