My goal at the end of this three month challenge that i am embarking on is to be 175lbs and 16 percent body fat. I know it is doable i just gotta get it done. Ill be posting here regularly again.
  3. That is why privilege is so subversive. I can tell you what to look for but it would not mean anything unless you confronted the notion of what privilege means to you. I also chalk it up to different personality types. Some people examine to understand and some people do or request direction to do. All roads lead to the same place just at different times.
  4. The point i think of the discussion is not to point blame but rather to aknowledge the fundamental issues involving classification and status. You hit the nail on the head with the sentence: It is one thing to speak or converse about an issue but it is quite a different thing to turn in ward in order to look outward. The article i felt was more advocating for the constant evolution of a thought process that would identify privileged which is a subversive form of racism in certain instances. It is our basic emotional self's that react with an 'I am doing all I can with what i know' ego response. It is a mental tactic in which to avoid unpleasant emotional states of being overwhelmed by lack of foundational knowledge. We should instead of defending our actions seek to reverse the trend of being unknowledgable about the issue by spending the energy we would have wasted on defense for the purpose of identification. I have little doubt that you are not racist but it is not for you to convince me or them but rather change the question in the first place to how am I treated in society so that a paradigm shift can happen in yourself and spread outwards. I think that when we can objectively look at self and place in society it nullifies the OPs question of what can I do to help a movement, because we have liberated ourselves from the rigid system of oppression and racism and class based unconscious elitism. When we are aware of how things work and how perception feeds into class objectification we can than find true means in which to subvert the beast. after all as Buddha said "we are what we defend against. "
  5. good luck dr pink but you wont reach your goal by half assing it. If you want to build muscle you have to work out. there is no way around it. You would be surprised how working out other areas tones areas you never imagined. You need a good amount of protein in your diet as well if you want to build any muscle so take that into consideration. I have seen you post many things about what and how you plan to take action. I would suggest you go back through those threads where people spent time and effort in getting you that information and use it to your benefit. good luck.
  6. i am mostly mexican with some spanish and italian thrown in.
  7. That was a pretty interesting paper thank you for linking it. One problem i see is that the paper is almost 20 years old, so the distortion the media plays on assumed and taken liberties of race are not addressed. Racism as a means to subvert is still prevalent unconsciously in America but the paper does not address the idea of white shame and the shared lexicon of ambivalence in America at this current time. It also ignores the neo cultural stereotypes that fashion and music have sought to replace the outmoded views of culture race and status. I would love to read something of hers about this topic in modern times. I think also taking the paper at face value i cannot emotively understand some of the things represented in the paper as more than an ideological thought form because I am not white and there for not 'privileged' in the same way. Viewing it through the male paradigm of power however does give me insight into what is indeed permissible or subversively in place as a mean to subvert others powers for my own in a passive manner.
  8. I think we are relying on overtly simple viewpoints in which we are trying to ascrib a system of morality and blame on something that effects every aspect of being (culturally, self identification, spirituality, economics, and equality). when we speak about race and racism we are there by validating the notion of it and creating a system in which we view and judge people positively or negatively based on color of skin. Even saying the black people in Europe are different belies a verbal prejudice. Typically we would not say the white people of Europe or I know this European or White person. But we do however based on cultural identifiers say this black dude or Blacks in this country or that country. We cannot even root out the philology rooted within our own speech. It can not be boiled down to irrational anger vs rational anger. It is imbued within our observations. The real question should have been specific to the person who gave the lecture instead of a conjecture on the nature of race and all black people. What culturally does the speaker call to when he claims that he does not want help with his chosen mission of liberation or equality. Because it is something he himself wants it has to be thought and confronted in the context of the speaker instead of whom he was speaking for.

  10. the collision of the particles only seek to create a black hole for one one millionth of a second. Hardly enough time to implode the universe. Also it has been theorized that microscopic black holes pass through earth as well on an irregular basis. They are using a neutrino detector underground to help detect this as well as various things like time shifts expansion of known galaxy and microwave radio signals from the big bang. I would not be worried. Also when getting into physics anything observed changes meaning perhaps quantumly we are effecting the muons and quarks in this experiment by worrying about it thus causing our own destruction.
  11. Right on. 13. Hello all. Just an update. I have been working out again for 3 weeks. I changed my program and it is more intensive and i am eating properly so i feel like i made more improvements in these three weeks than i had in the 2 months i worked out before. back http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v471/phillipeb/91008/Picture122.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v471/phillipeb/91008/Picture123.jpg chest http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v471/phillipeb/91008/Picture117.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v471/phillipeb/91008/Picture116.jpg arms http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v471/phillipeb/91008/Picture124.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v471/phillipeb/91008/Picture120.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v471/phillipeb/91008/Picture203.jpg free standing: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v471/phillipeb/91008/Picture127.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v471/phillipeb/91008/Picture192.jpg
  14. The comparison is only possible because we have subjugated natural order. We can only compare the paradigm since we have interfered. Poor farmer can only exist in the confines of a greater world view in which money is valued against a global economy. Yes there can be a poor farmer but that does not mean that same farmer does not understand sustainability. The internet is a technology that is available but has nothing to do within my world view. Information should be freely exchanged and valued similarly for all people. I am only concerning myself with the notion of the industrialized world pillaging the natural resources of other countries in order to gain substantial profit through the suffering of others.
  15. I tend to speak in platitudes. The we is the Industrial world at large and the war is the usurping of natural resources whether it be oil or workers. I am speaking mostly about the nature of the world we live, specifically the act of forcing third world countries to hearken to our wills in order to survive since we have globalized our economies and have no true decentralized state of power but rather a comity of mega corps interpreting our economies and worth in dollars without emotion.
  16. The International Action Center, whos website you got this post from, is a front group for the communist Workers World Party (WWW) What anarchist forum are you referring to? I think i read the comment as a negative and associated the eschewed smiley face as a put down. the forum was on couchsurfing.com under groups anarchist/socialist
  17. I do not agree with you. It is the forced occupancy of foreign nations that leads to a system of fabrication and "advancement". When we go into a foreign country and we place a factory we are giving the option to work for us our chose a traditional occupation in their economy in effect we are interfering with community progress. It is not up to us to chose how a society should interact with the world around us but based on multinationals and the new global economy it is a reality all must face. How can we be subservient to big business so that we will not be murdered or exploited more than normal. Take Coca Cola for example hiring death squads to intimidate and at times kill employees in foreign nations in order to dissuade them from unionizing. Equating the better treatment of captives to that of the unification that employment seems to offer is absurd. Even though a prisoner is fed and watered they are still a prisoner, and what is worse they are a prisoner to situations that are not native to them. We are introducing products that are harmful to their health and lifestyle changes that do not fit within their society. The world is not little America nor our testing grounds for spurious occupations. I do agree that we are at a place in which we have harmed our way into foreign markets and are ingrained to a level that to disentangle suddenly would be detrimental. My points are not to take away what has been placed but rather to offer oversight into the workings of these corrupt usurpers of power and people.
  18. i am always worries about precise measurements because i feel if i dont follow a formula i will fail. The more and more i ask questions to advanced body builders and peoples whose physiques i admire the more i realize that i may be concerned too much about precision. especially after calculating what i eat in a day. which is a decent amount of food and i didnt know it before. i just did a nutritiondata analysis of my intake and it hovers somewhere between 2751 with 160 grams of protein. im doing just fine by guessing it.
  19. The International Action Center, whos website you got this post from, is a front group for the communist Workers World Party (WWW) What anarchist forum are you referring to? anarchism is independent of system or regime but is influenced and can be inspired by others. Knowledge is knowledge irregarless of where it comes from. Although i do appreciate you pointing out the source it hardly invalidates the opinion.
  20. The notion that a multination corporation can move in and rape a third world countries resources and explain it by saying that at least they are making more money seems ludicrous. I wonder as i often do why if in America or Brittan we do not allow certain working policies why we would allow our countries buisnesses to work within another countries system in order to turn a profit. If we as americans or candians or even people of the UK deem it morally irreprehensible to employ child labor or not meet the standards set of basic safety and toxicology than why would we then allow the newest multi nationals to move to another country that does and say well than as long as it is in line with a countries ethics or economics than we should agree to it. All companies should be held accountable to their parent companies nations and should not be given a hall pass in human rights violations just to serve the corporation in which they are profiteering from, There is no excuse economic or otherwise to allow capitol gain from home soil in third world countries if it involves he subjugation of people and property. It is a captiolist view point when we claim that another country due to our interference and tertiary rules are better off for it. Each country has something to offer and it should not be the duty of the 'ruling nations' to judge what that is and how we should exploit it.
  21. I think in the never ending debate on whether direct action is justifiable we loose site of the actuality of the situation. Innocent lives are being lost, innocent beings are being stripped of their rights and tortured to effect a desirable endpoint. I am not an xyz coordinate and neither is an animal. While you may disagree with the method and tout the potential loss of people switching to veganism you cannot discount the lives that are saved based on this methodology of direct action. Your argument would be valid if we were discussing the issuance of parking tickets rather than the loss of innocent lives; It is a good thing than that we are speaking of veganism instead. "When a person places the proper value on freedom, there is nothing under the sun that she will not do to acquire that freedom. Whenever you hear a person saying he wants freedom, but in the next breath she is going to tell you what she won't do to get it, or what he doesn't believe in doing in order to get it, he doesn't believe in freedom. A person who believes in freedom will do anything under the sun to acquire....or preserve his freedom." -- Malcolm X It may not entice future vegans but it helps to alleviate the pain and potential suffering that would be in its place. The next time you see mink or marsupials in line to die i want you to tell them them that I am sorry but we are not saving you in hopes that some 13 year old in Essex might switch to a live of veganism and i want you to hold his hand as he is violently rapped pillaged and murdered in the name of advancement and tell me my theory on animal activism is wrong.
  22. It is hard to debate race without bringing into it the qualifying arguments of why racism exists and the notion of history and how it weighs on a groups collective decision. The idea that one man can represent a cultural movement at the exclusion off all other voices is ludicrous. Not ever black man is of the same opinion. Also when confronted with the language of "As a privileged white man" "do you want my help" there is little choice but to take the cultural stereotype and bias because the question was framed within in it. If the question was asked in this manner: "As a college student" or "How can i help fight the injustices you have spoken about today" the conversation would have gone much differently. It is a matter of psycholinguistics instead of anti racist rhetoric. When we think of the notion of civil rights we have no choice but to think about the way in which America was founded and the abuse suffered from those that came before. But it is also important to note that the issue of slavery was not a shared guilt many were fighting to subvert the practice. So to group together all white people as those who deserve to give the cold shoulder to negate the achievements of people who historically may have strove to help you. I think the notion of racism, at least in America, is a moot point because we are a poly ethic group of people who are depending on history as the basis of the condemnation of morality in the current time frame. Racism exists and the notion that one must turn their back on all in order to spurn racism is a double edged sword. What i think the argument really boils down to is the nature of the right to feel entitled and the want for social and economic reparations. When one looses ones culture at the hands of a merciless occupation than we feel listless and lost. Without a sense of cultural relativity we are doomed to search for something that may not be obtainable. I think that a potentially positive step would be to take ownership of the idea of slavery as well as pride in the fact that you were integral in the building of a nation. Pride however does not negate the solom nature of the sacrifice but the idea of rejoicing in ones journey as well as mourning ones difficulties is not unheard of (i.e. Jewish victims of holocaust). I think that the notion of taking back ones power should be viewed metaphorically instead of literally, although i cannot say for certain that the gentleman in question was not talking about an African American liberation or a spiritual one. Can we as privileged white people help African Americans? the answer is yes in any way we feel we should. Can African Americans help themselves? the answer is yes in any way they feel they should. It takes societies willingness to change as well as finding that connection between self and society to bring an indenture group into the light of the notion of equality. I do not see a world of color when i look but rather a world of people hearkening to a fascist belief in identification in order to have a collective response to stimuli. We are more than race, especially in America. But than again i may be radical in calling for an end of identification in order to live as oneself instead of ones sterotype whether culturally or spiritually. I realize that my words may be taken by some as inflammatory or insensitive but i belive in what i have said and i belive in equality and progression karmatically as well as culturally. We all evolve we all change and it is in the hope of repairing what came before. Sometimes that takes bloody violance and sharp words that cut through the levels of bureaucracy and sometimes it is evolving the idea of forgiveness both of ones enemies and oneself. In ten generations when the world is mixed to a point where common lineage is so inexorably intertwined that we have no choice but all to look back and bow our heads down with tears in our eyes we will then understand the primacy of standards we have placed in our notions of liberation. There can be no liberation from humanity only liberation from self. It is the inner not the outer journey in which we find the evolution that brings people together.
  23. this is being discussed on couchsurfing.com in the vegetarian vegan forum: http://www.couchsurfing.com/group_read.html?gid=516&post=1371532 here was my response: I appreciate your passion for the issue but it seems as though you wish to have an organization match your desires when in essence it is an autonomous entity. That is what makes the AR movement so wonderful, various people from different backgrounds coming together for a common cause even though the utilize different methods of engagement. It might make more sense to know that Peta was founded by some of the same people that founded the ALF. Their distractive illegal and at times controversial tactics have gone back to the beginning of their organization. For the record i dislike Peta immensely and i wish that they could be what i hoped they were when i was becoming vegan, but i know it is my own personal feelings about the way to do advocacy that colors this notion. I participate in various home demonstrations at Vivisectors homes, and while i know that some advocates of animals rights see this as an extreme example of the movement I see it as a necessary element to the movement. I think that i view all groups and individuals as splinter cells in a hive all having different things to bring to the table presenting a fully realized view of what the animal rights debate is. Name one other cohesive movement where there are not ideological splits and people campaigning for similar things in different ways. All is needed. In regards to the offending poster, i do not see the problem. I have seen worse from the anti drug contingency in Washington during my adolescence than this ad perpetuates. It is because the notion of slaughter is kept away from the masses that allows for this type of advertising to be so pernicious. In other countries these tactics would not work because the notion of raising an animal and getting it to your plate is more transparent. Meat hangs in windows butchers cut the stock in front of you to ensure you get the best piece. In America and Canada things are veiled so that the experience of eating isn't marred by the reality of production. Using emotionally volatile events is nothing new in the PR war that is waged against citizens everyday. The megacorp media chooses what will hit us the closest to home in order to capitalize on what they can get us to buy or rather buy into. Perhaps I am a radical to think that the taking back of our own emotions and free will for the purpose of advocating compassion is a positive step. Is it wrong to kill animals? to me yes. Is it wrong to kill humans? again to me yes. So logistically if A=C and B=C than A=B. I come up against this argument often when people ask how i could violate someones personal sanctuary (i.e their home) when doing anti vivisection protests for the Utah Primate Freedom group. My response is that i equate the experimentation on Intelligent life as the equivalent of experimenting on children. If children were forced into the experimentation that higher order simians are there would most certainly be protests going on at all levels including at citizens residences. What i think most people fail to realize and was briefly touched upon in a few of the responses is the notion of conformity. We live in a society that clearly defines what is permissible to either talk about or act upon. It is the job of the left and right wings to validate each others arguments leaving no room for outside opinion. We are only debating the tactics in which Peta chose to subvert a meat eaters opinions, not the why. We should be focusing on the socioeconomic, cultural as ethical aspects as well as all the other underlining issues facing this instead of the ones that have been deemed permissible. While i do not agree with Peta and i wish they were a different organization striving for what i believe in personally, i however cannot fault them for bringing in a tertiary viewpoint something out of the norm and subversive.
  24. this was posted in an anarchist forum i frequent which i found illuminating To: President Bush, Vice President Cheney, Secretary of State Rice, Secretary of Defense Gates, Congressional Leaders, U.N. Secretary-General Ban and members of the media U.S. HANDS OFF GEORGIA & RUSSIA - NO NEW WAR - END NATO NOW It is with growing concern that we observe that the U.S. government is threatening new military moves that carry the danger of another war this time against Russia. The Bush regime and the corporate U.S. news media have launched an anti-Russia hate campaign. Yet just as with the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan and the threats on Iran, the threatened military confrontation with Russia is also based on a lie. The truth, hidden by most of the corporate news media, is that Georgia's President Mikheil Saakashvili unleashed his U.S.- and Israeli-armed and-trained forces on the tiny autonomous region of South Ossetia, murdering civilians and attacking Russian peacekeeping troops stationed there. Only then did Russian troops respond. Saakashvili is the president who sent 2,000 Georgian youth to join the U.S.-led occupation of Iraq. The U.S. supplies the weapons to his army. U.S. Special Forces and Israeli advisers and mercenary contractors direct the Georgian military, which just held three weeks of joint exercises with the U.S. Army and Marine Corps in July. We must take note that like Iraq and Iran, Georgia itself is a prize for U.S. oil companies, as it is a major transit point for Central Asian oil. There is little doubt that U.S. arming of Georgia and its push to get Georgia into NATO set the scene for the Georgian invasion of South Ossetia and created the threat of a new major war. Now Washington also threatens Russia by placing missile bases in Poland and the Czech Republic against the wishes of the overwhelming majority of the people there. Surrounding Russia with this military alliance of new NATO members is the greatest danger to peace and stability on a global scale. It is time to remember that NATO was established as an anti-USSR military alliance aimed at reinforcing capitalist control and preventing socialist revolutions in the colonialist powers of Europe weakened by World War II. Since the end of the Soviet Union and the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact, the U.S. has attempted to vastly expand NATO and turn it into a military instrument to consolidate U.S. corporate power, surround Russia and China and re-conquer the former colonial world. Consider these examples: Yugoslavia. Based on the lie that NATO was defending small nations, U.S.-NATO intervention and bombing destroyed multinational Yugoslavia and turned the Balkans into a collection of dependent ministates ruled by the U.S. and Western Europe powers. Afghanistan. Based on the lie that this was a police action against terrorists, U.S.-NATO have carried out a seven-year occupation leaving the country in ruins and enslaved. Iraq. Here the lie about weapons of mass destruction was so blatant, and the U.S. position so weak, that most NATO countries refused to join the occupation and utter destruction of Iraq. No one can believe Bush is promoting peace in Georgia. It is time not only to stop this expansion but to end the NATO war machine completely by dissolving NATO. It is encouraging to anti-war people worldwide that Georgians themselves have issued a statement condemning the Saakashvili machine. "The entire responsibility for this fratricidal war," the Georgian Peace Committee says, "for thousands of children, women and elderly dead people, for the inhabitants of South Ossetia and of Georgia falls exclusively on the current president, on the Parliament and on the government of Georgia." (Aug. 11) We cannot do less than the people of Georgia who oppose the current president and want no part of NATO. We demand from Washington: (1) Stop interfering in Georgia and the Caucasus (2) Stop attempting to expand the NATO military organization into the countries of Eastern Europe and those that border on Russia. (3) End the aggressive NATO military alliance (4) No new wars! Sincerely, (Your signature will be appended here based on the contact information you enter to the right) posted August 15, 2008 U.S. HANDS OFF GEORGIA & RUSSIA - END NATO Campaign For further information call: (212) 633-6646 www.iacenter.org
