  6. I was in Portland this last week and got the opportunity to workout with Robert. We rocked a chest press day and took a quick photo after the session, so cool. HUGE thank you to Robert for spending time with me AND letting me crash for a night - he is the nicest most generous person I know! http://i989.photobucket.com/albums/af12/crystalfrostfire/2009Fall/DSCF5351-1.jpg
  7. Harold! Fantastic to see you here. Let me just tell everyone that this guy is awesome, a great activist and a great friend You need to start a training log and keep it updated. Then people can really pick apart what you are doing that is good, and whats bad for bulking. Also, I'm starting a new bench program based on percentages of your one-rep max. Its 8 weeks long, you should do it with me!!! . . . uhm, that is if your fractured hand can even bench press right now! Take care of that thing
  8. Hey, I'm going to be in Austin, Texas for the US holiday weekend of the 4th of July. I hear there is a vegan hot dog eating contest that I'm going to attend, I would love to meet some other VBBer's while there! PM me if you are in the area!!
  9. Hello VBBers! I just wanted to let everyone here know about a 5K race I'm helping organize in Salt Lake City, Utah to raise money for the Ching Farm Rescue and Sanctuary. Its Saturday August 8th at a place called Liberty Park. I'd love it if a bunch of you would join in! How often is there a 5K for a vegan cause? Even if you don't want to go to Utah, you can still sign up to "sleep-in" for the animals. It would mean a lot to me and to all the animals there. Hay prices, and grain in general, have really risen this last year and we're having a hard time making ends meet. We have sign-up for it online thru active.com, our page is Until my recent temporary move to Houston, I volunteered at the farm every Friday helping tend the many animals. I'm also the Volunteer Coordinator and I help arrange for others to come out. We advocate veganism and hold a vegan thanksgiving dinner every year as well. Its a really great place, please consider running or just helping out, even just a few dollars will go so far! -Crystal
  10. Okay, so I'm here now - who wants to meet-up for either dinner or workouts???
  11. Thanks LocalBrada! I made it to Houston safe and sound. So, my first day on the job this last Monday I found out they were flying us to far south Texas for my first business trip the next day! So, I've been gone the last couple of days. No training to speak of while away other than flailing about in the hotel swimming pool a little. Did have fun at work down that way though: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v389/vegancrystal/Summer09/photo-1.jpg 14 May 2009 - Thurs Wahoo! Joined a gym, and its ACROSS THE STREET FROM MY OFFICE!!! http://fc05.deviantart.com/fs41/f/2009/025/5/7/Happy_Bouncer_by_Argetlam_Br_01.gif DL: 10 x 135 lbs, 10 x 155 lbs, 10 x 185 lbs, 5 x 225 lbs, 3 x 245 lbs DB Shrugs: 3 x 15 x 40s Chins: 5, 4, 3 x bw - hands were parallel grip this time *stretching Okay, probably shouldn't have gone quite so heavy on the deads, but for an unknown reason I was in a VERY bad mood after work today and took it out on the bar (I think its all the travel and change catching up to me, plus missing my family and bf back home ). Felt great afterwards though - deads are just awesome like that. New job is going well enough, its basically a 8am - 5 pm, Mon-Fri sort of deal which I am not used to at all! My co-workers are all nice people (so far?) and the weather here is deliceously warm! Finally thawing out a bit I might go try out a rock climbing gym tomorrow, too. Was going to go today, but deadlifting won out
  12. Oooh, just saw the video of squatting. Good form, solid depth and you keep a nice straight back. The rows just look heavy! Thanks for posting the vids
  13. Thanks Robert 9 May 2009 - Sat: In Fort Worth, TX with Laura Today's training is in 3 parts Bike Ride A lovely morning bike ride in the mists of Fort Worth for about 16 mi/26 km along a paved path in an awesome park. Loved all the green, and there was a bridge over a river. So nice Climbing After lunch we headed over to Dyno Rock for some indoor rock climbing. Laura was such a good sport, I found a bouldering route that was incredibly fun (involved lots of swinging about on a juggy roof) that she had to suffer through . There was also a thick braided rope for climbing up that I had to try out. I haven't climbed a thick rope since grade school. Of course it had a top rope on it, looked sort of silly but it works. Ended the day in a lovely cave but I was so spent by then I wasn't getting anything anymore . Powerlifting After a quick trip back to Laura's to grab some stuff, it was off to 24-hour Fitness for some weight training . I'm not really in a routine right now due to the travel and days of climbing this last week (3 days at Hueco Tanks! Wahoo!) so just did the Big 3. Squat: 10 x bar 10 x 95 lbs 10 x 135 lbs 8 x 155 lbs Bench: 10 x bar 10 x 75 lbs 10 x 85 lbs 10 x 95 lbs Deadlift: 10 x 135 lbs 10 x 135 lbs 10 x 135 lbs *stretching - only some, I can stretch all night, but by this point it had been almost exactly 12 hours since the first day's activity and it was time to get some food . So awesome, thanks to gms for taking the time to meet-up and a big thanks to Laura76 for putting up with me both in her house and at the gym!!! Wahoo! Off to Houston in the morning, time for sleep . . .
  14. 28 Apr 09 - Tues *5 minute warm-up on recumbant bike DB Bench: 12 x 25s 10 x 30s 10 x 35s 8 x 40s 5 x 45s 5 x 45s 5 x 45s Rope Tri: 10, 7, 8 reps of a 1/2 pyramid going down from 70 lbs to 20 lbs (make sense? doesn't matter I suppose, just for the record . . .) Rope Abs: 3 x 10 x 150 lbs DB Bi's: 3 x 7 x 20s *stretching Good day at the gym even though I was really tired from trying to finish school projects before leaving for Texas in 3 days!
  15. Knee is getting better, its now to a lovely shade of green/yellow so back to the gym for a leg day today! 27 Apr 09 - Mon *5 minute warm-up on eliptical Squat: 10 x bar, 5 x pistol, 12 x 95 lbs, 10 x 135 lbs, 5 x 165 lbs 5 x 165 lbs 5 x 165 lbs 5 x 165 lbs Yup, on that last set there I felt something in my upper hamstring go "pop". Doesn't hurt too much, but it is where I tore my hammy years ago and it hurts when I squat. So, that ended today's gym session. I've been sitting on a bag of ice for the last hour as well just to stay on top of this so it doesn't become a problem. Gotta stay healthy so I can go climb at my best at Hueco Tanks next week
  16. Sweet, lets have a meet-up sometime soon!
  17. Well, looks like I'm going to have to take a little time off from the gym, hopefully not more than a week. Had a bit of a mishap at the farm sanctuary on Saturday (I was attacked by one of the ostriches but I don't want to make a big deal of it). I ended up messing up my knee pretty good (its one giant bruise right now), I pulled my hip adductor (I have no idea how, but it hurts!), and my hip is bruised a bit too but not nearly as bad as my knee. A few scrapes and scratches as well . I'll still do some upper body stuff this week, maybe go climbing still as well as long as I stick to V0's and the like. So limpy today http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v389/vegancrystal/Misc/DSCF4616.jpg
  18. 16 Apr 09 - Thurs *5 minute warm-up - recumbant bike Bench: 10 x bar, 10 x 65 lbs, 10 x 85 lbs, 10 x 95 lbs, 5 x 105 lbs, 2 x 110 lbs Rope Tri's: 10 x 80, 8 x 90, 8 x 90, 20 x 45 lbs *stretching Quick session today before lunch to make up for missing benching earlier this week. Bench is feeling better, I just wish I was hitting at least a few more reps on those higher weights! P.S. Been having trouble getting my Rx's lately so haven't been taking them all and I can tell already with increasing pain and swelling throughout my body - hope to get that straightened soon!!! Count down to moving for the summer: 2 weeks, 2 days!
  19. 13 April 2009 - Mon *5 minute warm-up on recumbant bike Squat: 10 x bar, 12 x 95 lbs, 10 x 135 lbs, 9 x 155 lbs, 8 x 165 lbs, 4 x 175 lbs Fronties: 3 x 3 x 135 lbs SLDL: 3 x 8 x 135 lbs (ha, didn't feel like changing the weight after the front sqts) Seated Calf: 3 x 15 x 45 lbs *stretching Holy crap those squats kicked my butt today. I was limping out of the gym and could barely manage the stairs! It feels like a sugar crash from yesterday's sugary feast of candydom so I suppose I get what I deserve! Now, back to school work for me . . .
  20. 9 April 2009 - Thur *4 minute warm-up, eliptical DL: 12 x 95 lbs, 10 x 135 lbs, 10 x 185 lbs, 8 x 205 lbs, 5 x 225 lbs DB Shrugs: 20 x 30s, 15 x 35s, 8 x 40s *30 minutes cardio (10 rowing, 20 eliptical) *stretching Then I made the darn fool mistake of going to the climbing gym with my friends. NEVER climb after deadlifting! My grip was gone, my strength was gone. Could only manage the very easiest of climbs in the whole place and managed to loose some skin . Otherwise, it felt great to deadlift - its been awhile.
  21. Bump! Come on, I know there are more Houston peeps out there
  22. Oh yeah, there will be tons of footage/piccies from the upcoming trip! Can't wait! 8 April 2009 - Wed *5 minute warm-up Bench: 12 x bar, 10 x 65 lbs, 10 x 80 lbs, 10 x 90 lbs, 10 x 95 lbs, 6 x 100 lbs Rope Tri's: 10 x 80 lbs, 8 x 90 lbs, 7 x 90 lbs *20 minutes cardio on eliptical *stretching Worked out with a friend today, which is nice because he makes me do more cardio than I would otherwise, which is one of my larger weaknesses right now .
  23. Okay, last week finished up with a great couple of hours of bouldering at my climbing gym in SLC on Thursday and Friday was my farm sanctuary work day. On Thursday I didn't ascend many problems, but there were a lot of new routes and I'm starting to try a grade higher than I've been doing so it wasn't a bad session. Can't wait to try these problems again when I go back tomorrow. Also getting amped up for my summer move to Houston. I'm taking a week to get there with a stop for climbing in El Paso (a few days at Hueco Tanks, maybe some other areas as well), a day Dallas for visiting, then settling in Houston until the start of August.
  24. Thanks Robert! Just a quick photo of me and my friend from last week's mine touring fun, taken in a Nevada pit gold mine: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v389/vegancrystal/SEGFieldTripMar09/DSCF4476-1.jpg
