Although this might be tipping the scale of wacko raw foodism, I think there is a superiority among the fruits that retain the original "blood lines". The cross breading for sweetness and removal of bitterness is likely a slow elimination of vitamins which are typically bitter. An example of this is the almost complete absence of B17 in fruits and vegetables except for in seeds. I had an "ancient apple" the other day at my co-op, it was a ridiculous price per pound, but I had to try it. It was still sweet, but it also had a stronger bite to the flavor. Interesting. Anyone got some property in the area? Let's start a co-op garden ASAP! I will donate a fig tree!

Oh no! You should try the "Isaac" salad. It is a carrot ginger dressing, has no seeds or nuts or fruit, and plenty of veggies. Olives aren't raw? Dang...

Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on where you are in your health journey. It can be hard sometimes in a culture that supports unhealthy food choices, combine that with the fact that those choices are physically addictive and you get some crazy attitude from people sometimes because you don't put the crap they do in your mouth. Vitamin D2 - Don't live in Oregon without it...
oregonisaac replied to oregonisaac's topic in Health & Nutrition Programs
Yeah, he's eating raw though, that's the problem. Yes exactly, and I ran the nutritional content on a couple weeks worth of food and had exactly zero vitamin d intake (in addition to zero b12 and zero selenium). I really did not want to supplement, because I want to see for myself what being 100% raw feels like... I do take a b12 spray right now, and eat two brazil nuts a day, and I consider those my only supplements, but I think I am going to start a vitamin d. I also spend most of my day indoors so I would guess I am not getting nearly enough from the 20 minutes to an hour outside in the rain. DV- Thanks for the tip on the VegLife tablets, do you take them? -

Welcome to the forum. Got any health or fitness goals? Good luck with the self-loathing thing. I have been working on that problem myself...one of my friends says: "If you want to have self esteem, you have to do esteemable acts." Help organizing and putting on weight
oregonisaac replied to Brett's topic in Health & Nutrition Programs
If you are trying to gain weight, eating more times per day will most likely not help, in fact I think that is something that hurts me. I have always ate 5-6 times a day. As a raw food vegan I am maintaining/gaining weight just by eating really healthy things, you can read exactly what I eat every day for the last 50 days or so in the blog section. Skipping breakfast might actually be good thing from what I understand, just want to make sure you are drinking water. Your total calorie intake is somewhat low, but I think more important the food you are eating is not nutrient dense. Do you have a juicer? Some green juices might help out. You can get a lot of calories and get a lot of the "foods I should have been eating a long time ago" really quickly. Another big one for me right now is bananas. Eat 5-6 bananas in a sitting for a nice calorie boost, that would be an easy snack to do in between your lunch and dinner meals. Just eat them an hour and a half or so before dinner time. I find when I eat only bananas they digest quickly. For a more interesting high calorie fruit salad, try avocado, mango and banana mixed together. Mango has a good amino acid ratio for a fruit, banana is very high calorie, and avocado is high fat. I am really a beginner, so take what I say with a grain of salt, and good luck to you! -
Your right about that potter, these things are damn near addictive. I guess there are worse things I could be eating, and I suppose once I really overdo it my body will tell me so. By the way, I met my match on greens today. Dandelion greens! Dang those things are bitter, using 2-3 quarts worth of them was too much! FOOD: 8AM vitamineral greens 8:30AM 1 red pepper 9AM 1/4 lb figs 9:30AM 3 apples 11:30AM 1 mango 3 baby bananas 1 avocado 1PM lg bowl maciello soup (blossoming lotus) lg caesar salad (blossoming lotus) 5:15PM 1/4 lb figs 6:30PM (juiced) 3 carrots 2/3 lg bunch dandelion greens 7PM 1/3 lb figs 10PM lg "Isaac Salad" (proper eats - like the "Courtney salad", minus the nuts and seeds, and with extra vegetables) TRAINING bent over row pull ups (standard, L's, and wide)

Damn do I wish it was fig season, all these sun dried figs are both expensive and not nearly as good as the real thing... I question how raw they really are too. FOOD: 9AM 3 bananas 11:30AM (juiced) 1 lg carrot 1 lg golden beet 1 head broccoli 1/2 bunch purple kale 1PM 3 apples 1/3 lb figs 3PM 4 bunches spinach (filled 2 quart bowl) 1 tomato 1 avocado 1 tbls apple cider vinegar 5:30PM (juiced) 2 heads broccoli 1 lg beet 2 lg carrots 1/2 bunch purple kale handful lettuce 1/3 cucumber 8PM 2 pears 9PM 2 apples 1/3 lb figs 10PM 1 apple 11PM (juiced) 1 head broccoli 3 carrots 1 lg beat TRAINING: incline press bench press dips (w/ weight) 1 hour martial arts

Welcome to the forum. The transition for me was over a year, but that is from a typical SAD diet to raw vegan, and I have been eating 100% (minus the occasional seasoning or questionable dehydrated food) for about a month and a half with nothing that I would describe as a negative "detox" symptom. I tried to go raw really fast, without giving myself time to learn about raw foods and all that stuff with poor success, then again I learned a lot so maybe it was needed. Calorically I would guess I was eating more like 50% raw for a few months before I made the switch (because my cooked foods were so much more dense, 90% by weight is more like 50% by calorie). Good luck to you, and feel free to check out my blog showing everything I have consumed since going raw. Maybe you should start one yourself, it has helped me, and it gives you a record to look at your diet without trying to think about it everyday. Oh, and if you get a chance, click the link below and vote for me in the PETA contest! Thanks, Isaac
