  2. Classes are equal 50/50 I'd say, and men/woman participate and play together equally in my school. Some schools are aggressive and others are not. Some will actually compete in contact rodas (sparring), rather than playing capoeira (just dodging and holding back from really injuring someone). I initially joined a very aggressive capoeira school, and it was horrible instruction with bad teachers that criticized and yelled. The school I'm at now is so full of positive energy (called "ache"), and so lively and fun. So definitely checkout a few different schools first...they are not all the same.
  3. Are you referring to the kamakula or the little ninja? I hate it when movies refer to "god".... Especially believing that "god" wants things dead.... it's such a silly idea.
  4. Yes I do Capoeira - I'm loving it. I've done many other martial arts before but am now only doing Capoeira. Definitely depends what one is wanting out of it - fitness, show, self-defense, fun, sport/competition, etc.... Capoeira for me is the best one, since there is music and rythym, and since the movements are so wild - I just love it. It is just a feeling that it is completely right for me. Every other martial art I've taken has either focussed on competition, yelling, aggressiveness, isn't effective, or is boring... I"m not yet able to fly around and do all the twisty handstands, but my kicks are good and I'm slowly improving =) I go 3 times a week.
  5. Ninja has discovered that Topher IS Compassionategirl He will be posting photographic evidence shortly...
  6. How about posture? Mountain bike being more upright and wind resistant?
  7. Ya I do find myself having to fill up my tires a bit and it's quite grippy, but also the positioning is more upright on the mountain bike, and also the tire radius is smaller than a street bike, and mountain bikes are heavier, so you go slower. So I suppose the better workout is on the mountain bike, but if you want less resistance and speed get a street bike. At least that is the reason I'm considering it - but I don't want a bike that will break if I go over a rock or through dirt or jump curbs either...
  8. That's the trouble with forums, semantics and opinions... everyone wants to be intelligent and state their opinions which sometimes come off as "facts", then others criticize and attack the person directly instead of the subject matter itself, and the wording is the deadliest part, everyone is unique and from different backgrounds. Heck, most of us have issues in real life with communication and intent/interpretation, so on forums it is about a million times more likely to be misunderstood or come across the wrong way. I wish everyone would use 3rd person methods of communication, such as using the word "one" instead of "you", and trying to remove negative / insulting vocab - but it's tough to be pc about everything... People don't like being wrong, or being attacked, but do love sharing their opinions. I've always come back to forums but take leaves for a while after getting frustrated on certain issues, or change the way I am on a certain forum (for example not get into any debates/opinions threads). *PS - Compassionate can still be found on veganfitness.net

  10. The issues I've had are with guys that think bodybuilding only means "huge" guys. In those cases I have to refer them to the vegetarian bodybuilders, such as: -Andreas Cahling -Al Beckles I don't know of any *big* vegan bodybuilders.... are there any?
  11. I mainly street bike for transportation but have a mountain bike... Does anyone know what is a good bike to get for mainly street biking, but one that won't flip out if I go over some gravel or through some mud/dirt/trails, or hop a curb here and there? I was thinking of this one: http://www.bikes.com/bikes/2006/city/rc-70.aspx Right now I have this: http://www.norco.com/bikes/2004bikes/kokanee.htm

  13. You create a page about yourself, including a profile and pictures, and people then ask to be added to your friends. If you add them, they show up on your profile as your friends. Friends can comment on your profile and pictures as well. It is really just a place to create a page about yourself and meet some people. I think the majority of people use it to look at other people's pictures. You can also create groups or send out "broadcast" emails - so I am on some vegan guys alerts thing which is kind of cool - he sends out interesting stuff.

  21. Speaking from the a/r perspective (which I am)... Speciesism is the same as racism, sexism, and other forms of discrimination and oppression - the only difference is the species. Would it be okay for a person to have the occasional slave, or occassional suppression of women? Ethical matters are not of the subject matter of acceptable slip-ups. Also, you will never see a herbivore have the occasional slip-up and eat meat. It is simply not something that occurs, as there is no desire and no instinct to kill animals and eat their flesh as food. If one believes in the equality of animals and respects them as such, it is just a given that one will never cause intentional harm to them.
  22. Robert/Daywalker, can I ask when you guys started working out and do either of you guys have "before" pictures of what you looked like before you started working out? Ages would be cool too... and also when you went vegan (age and if it was before you started working out or not). You're pictures are sickening! Sickening!
