  1. It looks like it is banned in the US. This web site is such f*cking bs! http://www.furcommission.com/resource/perspect999al.htm
  2. I read in some magazine that there are some laws protecting fur seals (at least in some places), but those laws only protect them as little fluffy pups. After they loose their fur they are no longer covered, and people hunt them to use them for supplements. So sad and gross all at once.
  3. Way off topic, how do you quote someone and have it say their name instead of “quote”?
  4. Good point about the bamboo Will. Bamboo also produces Oxygen at a faster rate then trees.
  5. Rob you’re a Pisces? Me too! I know it’s late but happy birthday!
  6. maybe i should rethink this whole movie night thing.
  7. You are right that they would have to build more roads for thinning then for a clear cut, but those roads are not used for development. Logging roads of course require more trees to be cut down and also damage borrows and other animals’ homes, but they also can be good. In the event of a forests fire those roads can be used to gain quick accesses to the fire and can also work as a fire brake to stop the fire from spreading. I don’t really support the use of hemp either; land would still have to be cleared to grow it. That could actually be worse because then it would be someone’s field and not a habitat for animals. Recycling would be the best way in my mind to prevent deforestation. I do not understand your comment about clear cutting around roads. Forests would not be saved it would only be different forests that are being cut down. Did you know that the areas around roads are not cut on purpose? I forget what its called, but right around highways (a mile or so) is kept green to give the illusion of driving through a forest even though out side of that area could all be clear cut. (for a while I was studying Tre Arrow’s work).
  8. Why would they ban hemp from jones when you can buy hemp protein powder?
  9. How about donating one of these… http://www.tribeofheart.org/ Both great great movies and both on dvd. Hey Rob and Meg have you two seen these movies? I was thinking maybe some time we could get together for a vegan movie night, (I have both of these on dvd) I asked Aaron too but I haven’t heard back yet.
  10. I think we as people have just as much or just as little as little of a right to take from a chicken as we do to take from the earth. Unfortunately to live we must eat living things be it plants or animals. I do not eat eggs but I know we had this conversation before and I already expressed my views on this. I do not think you can define a vegan as simply being someone who does not eat animals or animal derived products because that says nothing about wearing animal skins, using cosmetics with animal ingredients, or buying things that have been tested on animals. I think being vegan means you do everything in your power to prevent suffering. By that definition eating eggs from a bird that gets to live a happy and free life is vegan just as much as being a freegan is vegan. I think too often we are so worried about doing the “vegan thing” we forget what it is all about. Last year I read an article in a local paper. The author was complaining about some protesters in front of a store selling furs. He said he hated it when people gave him a hard time for wearing leather shoes and made some smart ass comment like “do they thing their vinyl shoes were wished into existence by Buddhists monks?” It seems that there are many vegans who don’t stop to think about how a product is made or if it will biodegrade as long as it is “vegan”. I also what to say that I think it is true that a person might treat an animal different if it was supplying food, just as some people treat the earth different because it supplies food. This can definitely be a bad thing but it doesn’t have to be. You can see these things as being here for your use and as such you are entitled do with them as you see fit. Or you can see that we are all part of one ecosystem and if you work to protect and care for these things, instead of just taking, they will in turn provide for you too.
  11. http://members.greenpeace.org/action/?action= so sad
  12. I think one thing that helps is to not let them have all of their toys out all of the time. Pick one or two to have out then after a few weeks switch them with some of the others… they will be like new toys all over again. How do you know they are bored?
  13. I wonder about them too. I was on a stationary bike last night, and the thing I noticed was that I really couldn’t slack off on it… it kept telling me to peddle faster + there is no coasting. I think it was a better workout then what I get outdoors even though its not as fun. In general I hate running. I like an exercise that I really have to think about to help the time pass. However I do like treadmills better; its out of the rain, most of the time I workout at night so I feel safer at the gym, and I can see so I don’t trip on anything. Best of all its easier on my knees.
  14. Never mind I found it. http://www.uprightcitizens.org/ucbdvd/index.html
