  1. This looks like a great organization, and I'm glad you'll be projecting a positive image of vegans while you're out there riding and building . Good luck!
  2. I got my Sunwarrior protein powder yesterday and I like it. It mixes easily (I shake mine up in a jar with soy or almond milk) so it's convenient to take to work and drink on the go. Tastes good, too. Thanks and good luck!
  3. Hi runner! Wish I could help but I haven't been to NYC. I'll be there next month, though, and will be sure to post some recommendations here once I get back. One place I definitely want to go is Moo Shoes http://www.mooshoes.com/about.html in Manhattan. I hope you have a great trip!
  4. What are you going to do in Japan? I spent three years in Northern Japan but that was a long time ago . . . I was vegetarian then and had no problem finding food; I'm sure you can find good vegan food there, but you might have to watch out for things like bonito and other fish in soup bases and in noodle dishes like yakisoba. Here are some sites that might be useful: wikia vegan japan : http://vegan.wikia.com/wiki/Japan restaurant pocket guide (tokyo, kyoto, osaka): http://www.veganjapan.net/vegan%20restaurant%20pocketguide/index_e.html Edamame and veggie sushi should be easy to find, too. Have a great trip!
  5. I don’t understand what the Israeli government hopes to achieve with this war, other than to feed Palestinian hatred and recruit for Hamas. Their actions are completely disproportionate to the threat to which they are responding. Since the media has been banned from Gaza we haven’t seen much of the devastation, but videos like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYKmA_o4lAE are unbelievably sad. Has anyone seen the documentary On the Objection Front? http://www.linktv.org/programs/objection
  6. Hi Shax! I was just at the Spiral Diner yesterday.
  7. Thanks DV. Yes, I had the MOHS procedure, too. I was really stressed out about it and am glad to have it all behind me. Right now I have about a 1-inch line of tiny stitches going straight down the bridge of my nose. The surgeon said the scar should be almost undetectable once it's completely healed. I've been avoiding the sun lately, which is sort of depressing for me since I love being outdoors so much. I think I'll start riding my bike again after the stitches come out next week, but I'll avoid peak hours and will be really vigilant with the sunscreen. How long ago was your procedure? And I've read so many mixed things about sunscreens lately; do you wear one daily, or just when you'll be outside for long periods? Do you avoid chemical blocks? Thanks, Vegan Joe; I do supplement with B12, though, and my B12 levels have always been fine when I've had my blood tested.
  8. hey everyone. just wanted to suggest (for anyone who doesn't already do so) that you think about getting screened for skin cancer once a year. in late august i had this little spot on my nose checked out (it was almost unnoticeable) and it turned out to be basal cell carcinoma. i had surgery last week and it's gone now, fortunately. i just turned 32 and wasn't really worried about skin cancer. my cousin's gf is 31 and was also diagnosed with basal cell this year. I just ordered some more Solar Rx SPF 30 sunscreen, it was recommended in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=12463&hilit=sunscreen

  10. Your cats are all adorable! This is Houdini. He acts more like a dog than a cat, he even comes when you call him. http://i28.tinypic.com/qsmtqv.jpg http://i30.tinypic.com/v7qvds.jpg http://i25.tinypic.com/2nriiir.jpg http://i27.tinypic.com/w1eog5.jpg
  11. When I was a kid I really liked the bean burritos at Taco Bell. They'd always manage to get a piece or two of ground beef in the pinto beans, though , so I stopped eating there.
  12. That sounds so good. What kind of herbs do you use?
  13. Congratulations on the job offer in Dubai, and good luck juggling everything you've got going on!
  14. Seriously, how can you argue with that? Marcina your blog is hilarious.
  15. Is that Zack being NICE? omg.
  16. lol Nice mantra. I've recited it myself a time or two.
  17. I think this is true for me, too. I went vegan as a teenager, but I was a junkfood vegan and didn't work out consistently. I didn't notice any change in cramps or other menstrual symptoms as compared to when I was just vegetarian. BUT once I started eating healthier foods, decreasing my caffeine intake (soda and coffee; I'm still a green tea junkie) and exercising regularly I noticed a positive change. My cramps aren't nearly as bad as they used to be; I think that's the biggest difference.
  18. Thanks, Offense. I'd much rather take the train than fly, I was just thinking about the time crunch since I'd only have 5 days for Denmark and Norway before going to Helsinki for VF week. I'll do some rearranging, though, and see what I can figure out. I'll check out Wickitravel, too.
  19. Johan, THANK YOU!!! for all the Stockholm info. The vegan cupcakes in that photo look way too tempting, though. I'm going to have to make sure I don't spend too much time in that place.
  20. Thanks, Tasha . I'll be sure to pack light, nothing worse than lugging too much stuff around. I'm going by myself. I've done a lot of solo travel (it sounds funny to some people, but I actually like it; I guess I'm kinda antisocial, lol). I'm sure I'll make some new friends at vegan week in Helsinki, though. We should take a trip next year to get you out of NA! I really want to go to both Croatia and either Panama or Costa Rica. Seriously, we should pick one and start planning for next year. It could be like a mini vegan vacation . Thanks Johan, I'll check out that site. Yeah, depending on $ I may have to cut out Norway, although I'd really like to see the fjords. I hear they're spectacular. Thanks again for the link!
  21. I'm downsizing to an efficiency nearby. Just trying to minimize my living expenses so I can save $ and travel more, mostly. Wow, now it's 4 am and I'm STILL awake. This is ridiculous. lol
  22. I'm moving next weekend and should REALLY start packing. Ugh. So it's 2am and I'm wide awake. I guess that nap today wasn't such a great idea.
  23. Thanks Robert and Offense. Robert: What cities did you enjoy most? Offense: I'm thinking of taking the train from Oslo to Bergen, and from Bergen I'll fly to Helsinki for vegan fitness week. I would rather take the train to Stockholm and go on to Helsinki from there, but time will be a big factor. My itinerary isn't set in stone, though. Where in Sweden do you recommend I go, besides Stockholm? What about Malmo, Gothenburg and Gotland? Thanks for your advice.
