  1. Thanks for all the responses. I kind of faded away for a bit. A new job that is crazy demanding has put my life in chaos. I am getting it back together, but working 11 hour days! Which has hurt my yoga practice and I am now only practicing maybe 2 times a week rather and 5 times like in the past. So I have gained a bit of weight back. I need to get on track with my diet and a good routine that I can do at home before work. I have some light free weights (2,5,8 pounds) a medicine ball, a balance ball and of course my trusty yoga mat. I've been eating pretty poorly. Lots of carbs and not so good snacks. I wonder if a detox or cleanse could help jump start me with a clean slate?? Suggestions? Hugs to all of you who took time to respond to me.

  3. Thanks! I received some truly inpsirational and kind advice here. Now I see why Nicole talked highly of this place! I look forward to educating myself more on calorie intake and what my body needs and just up my yoga asanas to a more advanced and more steady routine. I have an elliptical and dumbells at home I will try to incorporate into my routine to keep things new for my body. Wish me luck & thank you.
  4. I thought so! I am pretty clueless when it comes to creating the right routine. I am looking into a gym right across from where I work. I also need to educate myself more on my food intake. Because I KNOW I am a bad snacker. So what suggestions for a beginner would you give as far as where to start reading about diet and creating a good workout plan? Sorry to have so many questions! Thanks for your time.
  5. Hi! For me Bikram was very intense and the heat got to me the first few classes. It truly depends on what you are looking for. It is great for detoxing and once you get the hand of the sequence it can be fun. For me the studio I practiced at wasn't all that fun. So I did find an different type of yoga with a studio that I loved and now I've been practicing there for a year. I say give it a shot and see how you like it. Just drink a ton of water (which I am sure you do) and bring a towel!
  6. Hi! I am new to the group here! I did an introduction in the intro forum. I am 29, vegan and I have been an Ashtanga Yoga student for about a year now. Through changing my diet and making healthier decisions plus including Ashtanga Yoga I was able to go from 149 to 130 in a year. I am very happy with my results because I feel SO much better than I did a year ago and it has encouraged a continuous growth in my attention to my health. I am not so much looking to lose more weight. Mainly to firm up and trim the fat! I am 5 foot 4 and 130 don’t seem bad. But here is me in my bathing suit last week at a yoga retreat. It takes a lot for a girl to post a picture in her bathing suit!!! http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2262/2366572134_4db7cab238.jpg See. I feel beautiful, but I don't feel STRONG. I want to build muscle and definition and feel stronger. I do not want to stray away from my Ashtanga yoga, but I am not certain if Yoga alone can create the muscle and strength I need? So, for you Yogis out there what other exercises do you include in your routine? I know that my yoga practice will also improve once I build more muscle. Thanks for any input!

  9. So I have this very awesome friend that has talked highly about this community so I've decided to turn here for some advice! I am somewhat new to being vegan. Only since November 2007. I was vegetarian for 2 years. I guess first and most importantly I want to firm up and have more tone and definition. I am 5ft 4 and currently at 130. My slow progress has been over the last year; I went from 149 to currently 130. My current exercise is Ashtanga yoga. Yoga keeps me sane, besides my husband & dog! I've moved my life towards a much healthier lifestyle with quitting smoking in 2003, going vegetarian in 2005, the vegan last year. Incorporating Yoga into my daily routine (as much as possible). I would love some pointers about how you got started with toning/firming up from any vegan ladies out there. I am on a pretty tight budget and also pretty clueless when it comes to supplements & vitamins. I try to take a vegan multivitamin. So I am not sure where to start to just tone up? Suggestions? There is so much information on here, I am excited to dig in. Thanks! Look forward to hearing from everyone..
