Spiders and black ants I'm cool with, but any other insect I do kill. If you don't you will get overrun with them. Also in my building, if you get them you have to report it, and they automatically send in pest control. Only if they are in my place of residence though. I won't kill a bug in nature. Unless their trying to get me.

Large Hadron Collider-Doomsday or the begining of a new age?
Lovegenius replied to Lovegenius's topic in General Discussion
The thing that scares me is there are some very intelligent people who aren't as convinced this is completely safe. The fear is that according to all of what we know and theorize now is what we are relying on, and accepted science has been off before. And the LHC is all but guaranteed to shake up physics as we know it, and in this case a miscalculated theory could mean the end of it all. -
Not sure if anyone else here has heard of it, but it's probably the most important thing going on in the world today. http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=67q_2V6xOxE And here's a different take on it: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=bQYXMqEwRxc (in the vid it says May 2008, but things changed since the video was made, and it will actually all go down on September 10th)

Wow, had no idea about Tony Gonzalez. Also Raja Bell (SG for the Suns) is a veg. Now we just need a hockey player! Wish I had never quit.

Sounded more like a threat to ensure he doesn't.

This is wicked. Prince Fielder has an great chance at being something special, and if he were to do it as a veg that'd be awesome for the diet. He is also baseball royalty, and defeats the stereotypes that veggies are all skin and bone. I totally understand what he meant when he said that would be a bit much. It took me 12 years for my diet to evolve to where it is today. To expect someone to go straight from a cheeseburger diet to being vegan right away is a bit much. It takes time, and at least he is making an effort.

The best thing to come out of the lockout; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_O6f23rf24 I fucking love hockey, and play twice a week... Habs are my team, go Habs! And I'd be into a fantasy league...

Basketball is an amazing sport that works pretty much everything. It is also one of the funest sports to play and is very low maintenance. I remember reading somewhere that NBA player Mike James doesn't touch weights and that he built his physique by simply playing ball. And assumingly outstanding genes... http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h121/lovegenious/mjames.jpg

A trio of articles on NFL QB Chris Simms, and his two passions in life outside of football. It is exploitive to bees, that is true. Personally I don't really eat honey, but if I'm eating a sandwich and I find out there is honey in the bread, I'll still finish the sandwich. It's a bit of a boderline food in my mind, since my reasons for my diet are because I am against cruelty to animals, pro health and for environmental reasons, and I wouldn't call bee keeping cruel the way one calls any other farming of non-vegan food cruel(specifically local honey where I'm certain they don't kill off the bees), it's a sustainable food source as far as I can tell, and health wise one could do alot worse. Good to see a vegan from Scotland, that is where all of my ancesters are from!

Damn that looks tasty...

It's a bit of a touchy subject though, honey that is, and I think that's what he was getting at. I understand technically it is definately NOT vegan, but what are the moral reasons not to eat it? Cruelty to bees? Because I kill flies in my house, and my dad who used to keep bees claims that it isn't cruel anyways. And if you are using organic honey there wouldn't be any pesticide use... I'd like to know for myself as well. Sorry RawOne, I'm not trying to hijack your thread... Looking buff BTW!

Great story, and great post.

I remember being reading in PETA mag that Proctor and Gamble stopped all of thier animal testing on all non-oral products thanks to PETAs campaigning a few years back. I have been using Head & Shoulders for years and it is the only shampoo that controls my dandruff. Though someone today told me that head and Shoulders is tested on animals. I also use colgate toothpaste since Crest is P&G though apperntly Colgate tests on anmials too. Can someone help me out? I don't know any other veggies, so little help guys!

Big Habs fan here... We just got smoked by the Leafs though

I'm surprised "Saw" didn't make that list. I find most scary movies dumb, and not scary at all but Saw freaked me out. Same with "The Cell". Two of the scariest ever, and definatly two of the best recent ones...

Movies & TV shows which disappoint the Veg*n.....
Lovegenius replied to JW's topic in General Discussion
It is possible that he was chewing real meat. But to say he did it for cash is to imply that he sold out his values for money, which is unfair to assume. As I mentioned earlier, if he is in fact "vegan", and he did in fact chew real meat (both points being debatable since neither of know), he didn't do it for the cash, but rather CHOSE to do it because he felt it would help in his performance. Because I can tell you for sure that the steak eating scene is not a deal breaker when casting. The best actor for the job will be hired, and if he is vegetarian they will work around that unless the scene is absolutely vital to the plot, which it is not in this case, and even then there are always ways to work around it. (And it has been done countless times, in countless other films) -
Movies & TV shows which disappoint the Veg*n.....

I wouldn't villify the guy just because of what you read on that amateurish website. As a veg actor, I would assume that they would have a real steak on his plate but the actual pieces he was putting in his mouth were made of soy. And most actors don't swalllow the food they eat when filming, because of the many takes and what not, so they spit it out, and that would explain the spitting into his hand. It doesn't make sence that they would force him to chew real meat on camera, just for him to spit it out, when they could use soy and have it appear just as real on screen. If the actor CHOSE to chew real meat and then spit it out, because it would help him in his role then that is his choice, and we shouldn't judge him as an artist. Maybe he finds eating meat barbarric, and because Rico is a brute he wanted to know what it felt like to chew flesh. But there is no way in hell he did it for cash! Remember this is the world of film in the U.S.A., if your a veg, they are not going to make you do anything you are not comfortable with doing. Once you have the part, you have the power to say no and a very strong union protecting your rights as well. I'm sure this "website" just put that out there because people would find that little tidbit more interesting than the truth... -
I need facts people! "Incidentally, if you have been a vegan for an extended period of time, a simple B-12 supplement may not be enough. If you eat no animal foods, you lack the co-factors necessary for B-12 assimilation. And I assure you, my vitamin A levels (and eyesight) are just fine. I take cod liver oil every day -- which is a much better and more easily assimilated source of vitamin A. Carrots do not contain vitamin A, they contain beta carotene, which is only a vitamin A precursor and requires conversion in the liver. True vitamin A (like B-12) is found in animal foods only."

Its been a few weeks since Ive turned vegan, and I noticed that I have acne now when I used to never have it. My dad noticed my acne and was telling me about an old friend of his named smokey santillo, who was a big fan of a non dairy diet for health reasons. And apperntly he told my dad that for the first 6 weeks of being vegan, one will experience acne problems as your body expels the "poison" that is dairy. I found this info helpful and encouraging and hope you feel the same.
