  1. I have to defend quinoa here. Even though 15 % of its calories come from protein, it has very high quality protein! http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/cereal-grains-and-pasta/5705/2 ...whereas amino acid score of regular macaroni is less than half of quinoa's: http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/cereal-grains-and-pasta/5822/2 That makes quinoa WAY better protein source than regular pasta. And if you check the amount of nutrients, quinoa is kicking ass 100-0.

  3. Has your biology teacher ever heard of thing called fish allergy? There are millions of people who never eat fish and they are healthy.
  4. Finnish people in this forum are in proper shape, I'd say. In general Finnish people are obese, but there are a fair amount of ppl who are in good shape. And we don't have those super fatsos who have to move themselves with fatso scooters or whatever they are called. Can you describe what you ate and drank before and what is your diet like now? Have you restricted both carbs and fats or just either of them?

  9. You don't seem to know that xjohanx comes from Sweden where doctors do not sell anything and they are not dependent on drug companies in any way. The situation is the same here in Finland. A girl who blogs has no credibility in health issues and I bet if you went to see her and asked for help for really difficult digestion problems, she'd run away. A doctor is someone who has the education and licence to treat you properly and if you really think that a girl who blogs is more reliable than someone who spent like 7-8 years of his/her life studying the subject full time then don't call for 911 when you have an emergency. e-mail GreenSmoothieGirl, I bet she'll give you good tips to reattach that severed limb.
  10. Sun 5th July Time to pump those triceps for comp pics! - Bench press, barbell: 10 @ 50kg, a few reps @ 66kg, 4 + 4 + 2 @ 86kg (190 lbs). Worked out alone so I had to be careful and ended up with low reps. - Standing shoulder press, dumbbells: 3 x 10 @ 20kg per arm - Dips: 15 + 13 - Also combined sets: hammer curls & standing shoulder press, dumbbells: 3 x 5+5 @ 20kg per arm Did I get a good pump?   11. Well, you also lost 1 x chin and 1 x beer keg from your belly. It's just that your hair style is so much better than before that it makes as large difference in the way you look people want to comment it as well. It's very uncommon to get such huge amount of comments on progress pics so quickly after the first post. Believe me, people think your progress is fantastic! edit: My 1000th post here!

  13. I was going to say exactly the same thing! Haircut = way better than before. I think it's really wonderful to see huge results in just a few weeks! I can just wonder how your friends will react when they see you if they haven't seen you for a while! Well, that is if they even recognise you!

  15. I first tried lifting when I was 15 or 16. I was very skinny and I could lift maybe 100 lbs. I lifted for maybe a year back then with qoute bad results since I had no clue what to eat or anything. I did get 160 lbs up though. When I started training again on November 2007 /after 8 years without a single lift) I could do like 8-10 reps @ 110 lbs. Now I can do 7 reps @ 185 lbs and 1 rep max is 225 lbs. I haven't tried 1 rep max for months.
  16. Thanks Robert! It's sometimes a bit hard to see the progress myself since I see myself from the mirror every now and then and every time I look quite like the last time. But I am very convinced that consistency is the key... I look quite different compared to what I looked a year ago. And I hope I'll look next year different as well. Well, back to my training! Another few days pause... I had my birthday party and then I had some incredible business things to do which kept me busy but I'll tell more about it later. Fri 26th June - Bench press, barbell: 10 @ 50kg, then 4 + 5 + 6 @ 84kg - Bicep curls, curl bar, 2 x 10 @ 44kg - Standing shoulder press, dumbbells: a few sets @ 20kg Sat 27th June - Deep squat, barbell: 10 @ 52kg, 3 x 10 @ 72kg - Bent-over rows, curl bar: 3 x 12 @ 82kg Tomorrow I'm once more off to teach breakdance to a large bunch of kids for a few days.
  17. OK here's the deal: I need protein bars for myself as well as for the vegan community here in Finland. We can already buy lots of different bars but they are usually ridiculously expensive, like 4-5 usd per bar and that's a ripoff. I found this one place (AllStarHealth) where you can order Organic Food Bar Protein Bars $ 22,75 for a box of 12 and Builder's Bars $ 16,95 for a box of 12. And even after that they'll give me 5 % off if my order is larger than $ 1000 but that won't be a problem. The problem is this: They refuse to ship to Finland. Solution: I pay the bars and they'll deliver the package to one of you. Then one of you sends the package to Finland. I'll pay for the costs obviously and I can pay some for helping me out. There is nothing illegal and I'll pay all the taxes and such. I just need someone TRUSTWORTHY (obviously someone like Robert or Giacomo) to help me. Ryan, if you're reading this: Don't worry. I am co-operating with JP and the bars I will be selling will help Joni to sell loads of bars in Vegaanikauppa.com in the future since people will just get a few samples from me. You are most welcome to make an offer for OFB Protein Bars and Clif Builder's Bars. If someone can sell the bars for similar price as AllStarHealth, please let me know! I am talkin about an order of min. 30 boxes but maybe a lot more.

  23. Welcome! Remember that if you want to lose weight, you have to eat less than you consume. Cut down carbs, that's the most important thing. Don't cut fat or protein unless you consume huge amounts of fat. Combine training with that, and you pretty much can't fail. After a few weeks or months, post pics of you without your spare tire!

I tell the same thing to everyone: Keep eating food LOADED with protein and good fats, such as nuts, seeds, textured soy products (fried with oil) and loads of full grains, beans, lentils and such. That way you won't lose any weight, and you can easily increase your muscle mass! At least if you're getting more than 3000 kcals a day. But hey, welcome to the forum!

    Welcome! It is a common assumption that vegans can't build their bodies as well as "meatarians". There are many thing you should know, and the best way to get answers is to ask stuff. Also, search function is very handy. Basic rule: Just keep eating food loaded with calories, that way you can't get smaller!
