11/06/15 I woke up this morning a little sore, but feeling huge and strong. I love that feeling. Must have been all the potatoes I ate yesterday. I know I was supposed to run hill repeats today but couldn't decide on which hill and I didn't want to drive across town to find a good hill so I just hit the trail. I did the 3 miler twice so I guess it was a repeat. 6 miles with 1800' elevation in 1:09:55 Since I knew I was going to do it twice I wasn't trying to break any records on the way up the first lap and made it up and down in 34 min turned right around and went up again. Oh I found out what the callouses that grow on the sides of my big toes are for. I cut them off and my toes were hurtin big time. Going up the second time wasn't as bad as I thought but I def didn't have the same power output. I really don't think I can get much faster unless I drop some weight. At least 10 lbs. I'm not willing to do that though. I don't want to sacrifice that much strength. Tomorrow and Sunday I will rest.

It's an intermittent fasting protocol that has you cycle your macros for rest days vs training days. I used it for a while before I started training for endurance. I went from 185 @ 20%bf to 178 @ 8%bf in 3 months. It's fantastic. Check it out here http://www.leangains.com/2010/04/leangains-guide.html?m=1

Are you familiar with lean gains intermittent fasting?

11/05/15 9 days out! Went to do a crossfit workout with the academy guys Partnered up on everything but 1mile we had to run with our partner. One round of: 100 burpees 100 pull-ups 600 jump ropes 100 kb swings w/53lb kb 1 mile run 1st - 20:57 my team 2nd - came in around 22 min 3rd - came in around 22:30 4th - came in around 24 min 5th - came in around 26 min All my strength and conditioning is paying off. I'm going to be the old man that can keep up with the best. I felt like I could do another round or 2 and worked on some strict ring muscle-ups after the workout. A couple hours later and I'm a bit tired. I'm feeling the accumulation of this weeks training. I've been carbing up and will sleep well tonight, for tomorrow I will find a long steep hill and run up that bastard many times.

Really? I listed it in pounds not kilograms.

Were there any other vegan athletes at nationals?

I did an unsanctioned meet an a local gym last year and did 250/350/450 at 187 lbs with those lifts I won my weight class and 2nd overall. There were about 20 competitors. I'm not training powerlifting at the moment but would like to again. My best lifts in the gym were 275/375/475 and would like to shoot for 315/405/525 at 191. Raw no belt plus rehband knee sleeves

Def looks like you could add weight to those squats. Are you doing high bar or low bar? High bar feels weird on my neck so I prefer low bar and front squats. With all the hills I haven't felt the need to put a bar on my back lately. In about 5 months I'll get back at it.

VBBF Challenge: One Million 1,000,000 Push Ups

How big are those thighs young man?
-
Look Rob, I'm obviously biased against the way you train. Just as you are biased against how I train. We should just leave it at that. I would never go on your log and tell you that your training philosophy is shit. I'll do that here and elsewhere on the forum but not on your log. Why? Because it's a self professed HIT journey, that's why. What's the point?
-
John Little??? I went and listened to a bit of that interview you posted. Complete rubbish. Saw a pic of him on his website too. He looks like a freakin couch potato!
-
You just named like .01% of bodybuilders. Name one successful "athlete" that trained with HIT. bodybuilders aren't athletes. It's no more a sport than sculpting is a sport. It's more an art than a sport. Oh and go out and run a timed 3 mile run and then tell me how HIT has improved your cardiovascular endurance.
-
Yates didn't even train HIT http://breakingmuscle.com/strength-conditioning/hit-or-myth-the-truths-and-fallacies-of-high-intensity Right so train to one set failure and be able to run up 15 flights of stairs in full gear. I don't think so. That study is bullshit otherwise endurance athletes would train with HIT. The only thing HIT has going for it are a few non repeatable BS studies and nothing else to show for it.
-
No one ever mentions anyone but Yates or Mentzer. It's sad really.
-
Here's the other thing. I'm not a bodybuilder so I could care less about how Yates or Mentzer trained. I trained like Mentzer as a teenager and I got big and strong for one set but had zero muscular endurance. That's what HIT does and that's why real athletes that compete in a sporting event train for strength and muscular and cardiovascular endurance! Olympic weightlifters train daily and get huge Gymnasts train daily and get huge. They look better than natty bodybuilders IMO. Fighters train daily Runners train daily All athletes train daily As a firefighter it doesn't matter how strong I look if I crap out after 30 min. I need strength, stamina, endurance.
-
You're so full of ____ Dorian Yates, Mike Mentzer are your heroes. 2 athletes out of how many? Says so much about HIT, doesn't it. Also both of them were juiced up beyond f u c k i n g belief. You know that steroids extend muscle protein synthesis out beyond 96 hrs post workout and natty athletes only get 24-48hrs so we need more frequency. Keep your BS HIT to your own log and keep wearing that ass groove deeper and deeper into your couch.

60 million babies have been killed in the US since row vs wade. Think about that one.

11/04/15 A little sore in the upper body today and not 100% motivated but I don't view those as indications of recovery so I went ahead and proceeded as planned. Training: Archer Dips x 5,5,5,5,4 both sides +4 reps Ring rows x 12,13,14,15,13 Ring curls 2 x 12 Hanging leg raise toes to bar x 12,12,10 +4reps +=improvement Make no excuses to skip a training session. Feel stressed, sad, sick or tired? Go train. Your friends, your heart, mind and body will lie to you. Telling you that you need that recovery day. Go ahead, stay home. I'll be training that day and getting better no matter what.

11/03/15 5 mile trail run with 1250' elevation in 51:55! Very nice improvement here of 1:13. Hill intervals next time.
-
11/02/15 Training: 3 mile trail run with 900' elevation in 32:22. An improvement of 12 seconds. Still felt super slow going up. I think I need to do some interval training. I'm a bit tired today but may still do an afternoon session. I'll keep you posted. Well I got my afternoon session in while dinner was roasting in the oven. Pull-ups x 14,14,14 (felt good here, good progress) Pikes ring push-ups one leg extended x 8,8,8 Chin-ups (wow, those 3 sets of pull-ups really cut into my strength here) +75lbs x 4 +60lbs x 4 +50lbs x 6 Piked ring push-ups x 9,8,9 Hanging leg raise toes to bar X 12,11,8 (I've been neglecting these. Best ab movement out there. These will make your abs pop like nothing else.)

Hmmm, well a side ache shouldn't double you over in pain. You should probably get it checked out.
-
Makes sense. How very prudent of you, LOL. I'm of the camp that would risk the possibility of injury to look badass pressing 100# DBs. But my joints haven't felt this good in years. I still think I'm 20 I guess.

Just curious, is there any evidence showing pre-exhausting a muscles is more effective than just doing the main movement with more weight? NM I googled it. Not much research done on it. One study showing pre exhausting is no more effective than doing the compound movement first with rest between compound and iso movements. But it's not less effective either so if you like it then it doesn't hurt to do it.
