  1. awwww tashie. i love posting on this forum, just wish i had more time. last week was a busy week for me. I missed 3 days of cardio, so i had to 90 minutes fri, sat and sunday.....whoa. but i did it and i was pretty proud of myself. and i did an hour last night also, and again tonight, blah blah blah. I decided to not count the hooping as cardio (i mean it is absolutely cardio-no question) because i dont want it to feel like work or something i HAVE to do....but there's been PLENTY of that of late too. My lifts have been awesome imho. last night while i was doing 30lb db shoulder press, thiss girl was doing ball crunches just looking at me all starry eyed like "girls rock" haha. it was a good feeling, especially where i had been feeling so down about myself for quite a while. I was wearing my cow-hugger shirt and giacomo was spotting me in a vegan fitness team tank. it was pretty cool. then giacomo ACTUALLY DID CARDIO WITH ME ...ok only for 20 minutes, but whatever. thats 20 minutes that i had someone to talk to. works going well so far. tons of reponsibily. and lots of beer tasting.......lots and lots of beer tasting......yikes.
  2. hey jason! Do you find that as you lose weight you get hungrier??? that is happening to me as we speak! What do you do about it?
  3. i spent 6-yes count them-6 hours with these guys in the gym yesterday while they trained legs until they were practically crying. Robert doing nearly a thousand pound leg presses and giacomo squatting 560. these guys are really dedicated and motivated about this. there isnt a doubt in my mind that they will not let this community, or veganism down. i love you two.
  4. Hahaha, first thing I thought when I read this was "What?! There's a Happy Things thread, that's awesome!"... then I realized it's just me. When you think about though, I think more web forums should have a 'happy things' board, I think it would make the world a more positive place! we really do have a "happy things" thread. i think it's under general discussion.
  5. when chuck norris goes swimming, he doesn't get wet. the water gets chuck norris'd.
  6. Cottage cheese=eat high protein tofu, scramble it with nutritional yeast, lemon and salt Cream cheese; Tofutti cream cheese is amazing. tastes just like the real thing, i promise Butter=earth balance is a natural margarine made from veggie oils, looks tastes and acts like butter in recipes Egg whites; protein powder and water. pea, rice, hemp, sy, Vega, buckwheat-there's a lot! Eggs=depends on what youre using them for. scramble? try the high protein tofu. wants something meaty? try seitan. something kind of nutty and super high protein is tempeh. there are a ton of options and i'm a protein freak! PM me if you need and help!
  7. hey jason! Awesome job on the consistant eating and exercising! I'm still trying to get 100% back on track from VV08!!!!! Crazy huh!? Keep up the awesome work!
  8. I agree with you IYM. I should mention that i am by NO DEFINITION a prude and i think sex and sexuality are awesome, beautiful and fun things. i think sex should be more prevelant in our culture (at least in the U.S.). Sex should be openly discussed and not be so taboo. I think a lot of things in this country would improve if people weren't so scared of sex. but it shouldn't be used in this way. This wasn't an expression of anything other than a means to a shock factor. and i understand that the commercial was obviously directed at the guys who typically watch the superbowl, but peta stands for what again? People for the what? oh yeah -- ETHICAL treatment of animals. A group founded on principles of ethics, should, in fact, be ethical enough to rise above the stupid beer commercials that run during the game and make a decent fucking commercial that doesnt resort to smut especially since they are not selling alcohol to a bunch of rowdy guys, but theyre trying to sell the idea of a lifestyle change. forgive me if i'm mistaken, but thats a huge difference and they really should start smaller than the god damn superbowl if theyre gonna be doing commercials. again, i'm all for sexuality and those were very beautiful and sexy women. but it was pointless and in fact--counter productive to the cause. as usual for peta.
  9. Ain't nothin but a peanut!
  10. Really??? Peta has a million and one resources at their hands....and THIS is what they come up with. you know, I try so hard to support everything that supports veganism, but i'm gonna go right out here and say that I despise that organization in particular. they're just friggen scandalous. They exploit women SO MUCH its not even funny and lets not even get me started on how much that pisses me off. like there are no other eye grabbing tactics other that t&a right? Its really sickening. But what point were they trying to make with this commercial?? Who do they think they're going to convert with that? College frat boys??? Highly unlikely. It just makes no sense. I see no harm in using one's beauty to promote veganism WHEN THAT BEAUTY IS RELATED TO THE VEGANISM! But even if the plan was to merely GRAB PEOPLES ATTENTION with this bared and gyrating flesh.....dont you think you should have something to say once you have it? Peta pisses me off. They make us look stupid. They make veganism look stupid, tacky and trendy. Why they are THE leading promoters of veganism I will never uinderstand.... Thanks again peta for yet another riveting act of garbage media.
  11. do you ever wonder where fruit flies come from? The eggs are ON THE FRUIT! Leave the fruit on your counter long enough for them to hatch and.....BOOM! Fruit flies everywhere!
  12. Interestingly enough i had one today! I was conducting all of these interviews for my new job today. I was hiring the whole front of house staff for this restaurant that is opening in two weeks and this girl i was interviewing said she was vegan (i got a question in that divulged this! heheh) and i was like "Sweet! Me too!" .....SOooooooooooo unprofessional! hahahahaha. oh well. she's already got the job in my eyes. i mean, she IS highly qualified.
  13. i'm so jealous of you right now. we have abot 2 inches of snow again.....no kidding. but guess what? you have two more 24 fitness buddies!!! I LOATHE LA FITNESS! ;-p soak up the sun for us!
  14. OH MY GOD! HE'S SO CUTE!!!!! I don't even know what i would do if my little guy got away. I had a scare once, he got off his lead in the backyard, but he was just hiding in the yard. I had a freaking heart attack for a minute! I'm so glad you found him!
  15. TASHA I CANT WAIT!!!!! I am probably gonna be really busy this week. I'm interviewing people all week. I'm in charge of hiring the whole front of house staff can we say PETRIFYING???? Robert are you gonna be back for my birthday? The 16th? We better all be doin something fun! Giacomo and I are STILL waking up to your raging bicep and smiling face every morning on our bedroom ceiling. (It's amazing how he didnt really think that was weird at all.......???) Working, training, working, training, working, training....you get the idea. I'm loving it.
  16. The body, being unable to cope with all of the poisons would explode into a unicorn, causing much harm and cuteness . . . can't prove it wouldn't happen . . . and my company is PC based. you guys are amazing
  17. i know isnt it beautiful!!!! I love it. I'm kinda addicted! my goal is to be that good. i can do all the tricks and stuff, but putting them all together and making it flow is pretty difficult. Making hoops is super easy and there are about a million tutorials on youtube. and IYM, men that can hula hoop are HOT! most guys are scared too, but there are a million different things to do with a hoop. isolations look like this if you get really good at them: although not quite the workout that spiral does...you know that looks awesome! tasha, i'll try to get the cell pics on the computer! it was good to see you yesterday! i went to the gym last night and RACKED THE WEIGHTS for cable sissy squats. (it was only 200lbs) but i was happy. then i did hack squats working my way up to 90 pounds. did seated calf raises and dumbell glute kickbacks (which always makes me feel ridiculous, but hey it works!) follwed by an hour of cardio on the treadmill. just walking on a 10-12% incline at 3mph. and of course, the hooping!
  18. YES! thats the feeling exactly. I couldnt have said it better myself. i feel like i am just now getting past that stage. Looking in the mirror going "hmmm...maybe 145 is a normal healthy weight for me" haha! ah the excuses we make. but honestly it helps to just accpt it. i feel like since i accepted that my body is different than it was a year ago and there's no superfast way around it, that i've made way better progress. maybe i reversed psychology'd MYSELF! Anyway, we can do this VP!
  19. haha jk. i could keep it on my waist for hours! thats not the hard part and that wouldnt make my heartrate budge. its hooping around the knees, chest, neck, arms, shoulders, and everything in between that's work! actually it was this girl who inspired me to start doing it-at this festival-three years ago. i love it! that probably gives you a better idea. since most people will be thinking of little kids gyrating away! haha
  20. we have people from all over the place! I love it! Welcome!
  21. Giacomo works at a gym!!! Now I get to go visit him and i'll never wants to leave. Also I got a job over 300 other fully qualified applicants as a head bartender for a restaurant opeinging up win west linn (read: a very rich town) so i'm pretty psyched about that (also nervous-its a lot of responsibility!! first day is tomorrow, where there gonna hand me alist of people who wanted my job. now i have to call them in and interview them for lower positions--and i'm about a decade younger than the average applicant, so i can expect to catch a lot of shit for it, i'm sure. but hey-YEAH BUDDY! when you got it you got it. As far as training goes, in addition to lifting, which i've been mixing it up between my circuits and lifting heavier, i've FINALLY unpacked my hoop (yes-a hula hoop) and been dancing with it again. it is low intensity but if you can do it right it is actually good cardio (not like running is for certain, but its tougher than you would think) and it BEATS THE HELL out of staring at the clock running on a treadmill.....but i've been doing that too. Diet has been on and off for months but it has been 100% all week. drinking a gallon of h2o daily and i am taking a zinc supplement at zacks reccomendation also to help get rid of my GOD DAMN ACNE!!!!!...hopefully as spring comes the sun helps it out too. Winter feels like its coming to an end, which is SO WEIRD to me and in new england, winter lasts for six months so i am THRILLED! its been sunny for a week straight (yes, this is a big deal in portland) and i will be riding my bike soon as well. I benched 30s yesterday!!!!!!
  22. The body does not produce enzymes. This is why raw foodists are so much healthier than those of us that eat cooked food. They have no need for enzymes, because the food they eat digests itself. oh yeah. i forgot. its amazing how that science crap sticks in your head for so long.
  23. that is SO weird! same thing happened to me a few years ago. ver batem. chai tea as well. I was sicker than i've been in years and years. it was a nightmare. i never assumed again. its amazing how our bodies lose the enzymes to digest certain things isn't it? ah well-who needs em!
  24. your diet looks pretty solid to me. I agree with zack though as to up the protein. i too am on a budget and here's what i do to get about 140-150 g per day on the cheap: Vital Wheat Gluten flour you can buy in bulk for about 3-5 dollars a pound but one pound makes almost 300 g protein!!!! You can make a very simple seitan recipe with this by mixing the flour with water (the exact ratios will probably be on the bulk bin or package you buy) kneading the hell out of it, cutting it up, and simmering the pieces for about an hour in veggie broth. There are fancier, tastier recipes, but this wokrs in a pinch, then you just jazz it up with spices and sauces anyway. tons'o'protein there (and the family will probably love it as well) Also trueprotein.com sell "gemma" protein-its just their name for pea protein for about $5 a pound with shipping. each pouns contains about 15 servings of 25 g or protein, so at $0.33 a serving, its hard to beat. good in smoothies. trueprotein also sells rice protein and hemp protein for much cheaper than you'll find in retail....if your buying your rice protein in retail jars-stop. save yourself the money and spend it at this site instead. tempeh and tofu are good protein sources, but can get pricey fast. as far as the rest of your diet. i'd say it looks good. if you want to up the protein and maintain the same calories, cut out some fat (til its about 20-25% of your daily intake, and add the protein there. I see that your goal is to cut down, so unfortunately, you may just have to try dropping your daily calorica intake in general a little bit (250 a day?) just make sure to keep that protein high, or you'll be losing too much muscle and not enough fat. hope that helps some.
  25. my suggestion haley would be to rent a bike for a few days and see how you like it. no one can know what will be comfortable for you except you. and the people you rent from will probably be able to give you good information too. Just in case you hate road bikes ( i do. i know its just me, but i am petrified to be so hunched over with cars whizzing past me. freaks me out) it would be better to find out what works for you and what doesn't BEFORE investing 4-5 hundred.
