  1. I would stay away from perfume or jewelry since I consider that too personal for "just friends". I would suggest a trinket (something she can display on a shelf), a coin purse, tote bag, or an item that is local to your area that she couldn't get anywhere else. I love pelicanandrews idea of a candle or book.
  2. I used to live in Georgia. The Palmetto bugs are HUGE! Flying roaches!!!! Ewwwwwwww!!!!!! I moved to GA from IL and it was a shock to me. Illinois doesn't have the bugs like Georgia and Florida does.
  3. I have never liked Crows or Roaches. (Lean and Green might want to post on this one too. - LOL)
  4. I am happy. I just ordered a Vitamix Blender. I called the number online. I got the cheaper Vitamix ($449). I decided to go with the 3 monthly payment plan (they add $15 service fee for it). I gave them a code I found online (I just did a search for Vitamix free shipping code) and there was no shipping charge. After tax, my first payment was $249.40 and the next two payments are 124.70 each. I know it is a lot of money but just from looking at the website and reading more about it, I think I will be using it a lot. I get 30 days to try it out or send it back for a refund. Also there is a 7 year warranty on it. I will post again after it arrives to let you guys know if I think it is worth the money. It should be here in 7 - 10 business days (coming UPS).
  5. Asheville is close to some of my family. I have been thinking a lot lately about moving there. I would definitely go to a VV if it was held in Asheville.
  6. Welcome I hope you find the motivation and support that you are looking for on this forum. I am also struggling with my family right now about my choice to become vegan. They are concerned that I will not be getting all of the nutrients needed for strong bones. If you read through some of the previous threads in this forum you will be able to find some websites that you can share with your family about the health benefits of veganism. The members here are wonderful and they can provide you with an abundance of expertise.

    Newbie Vegan

Welcome! When I became a vegetarian my family wasn't as supportive as I thought they would be. When they got used to the fact that I stopped eating meat, I became vegan. Now they are concerned about my health. *sigh* My friends, co-workers, and of course the members on this forum have been very supportive. The more information that I can share with my family about my choice the better. I also thought I would miss milk, eggs, and cheese. I tried to go without it for a few weeks and never looked back. I hope you find this forum as helpful for you as it has been for me.
  8. Michelle - Thank you so much for all of your helpful suggestions. I've never been on a cruise before. It helps to know I have a lot of options. hsorlando - I love pizza. I will definitely ask for a no cheese pizza.
  9. I am so excited!!!!! I am going on a cruise to the Bahamas in May of 2009. It is the Music Boat 2009 cruise http://www.musicboatonline.com/ They have a section on their website about dietary needs of guests on board. This is what it says................ Guests requiring Special Diets on Royal Caribbean ships: We can accommodate most special dietary needs, such as Food Allergies, Gluten-free, Vegetarian (except for Vegan and Lacto-Ovo vegetarian), Low-fat, Low-Sodium, Lactaid/Soy Milk, Ensure, and Kosher meals at no extra charge. - Policy - Unfortunately we may not be able to accommodate all special dietary requirements. Anything that is faxed or e-mailed within 2 weeks of sailing is dependent on the ship' s product availability. We will try to accommodate to the best of our ability. Vegetarian Meals On all our daily menus we offer a Vegetarian Selection (an appetizer or soup, salad and main entrée). This does not have to be ordered in advance. These meals are not Vegan or Lacto-Ovo specific and do contain dairy. Indian-Style Vegetarian Meals We offer a daily Indian-style Vegetarian entree on all of our ships. These Indian-style meals are not region-specific and the cooking technique is not home-style. These meals are served based on Royal Caribbean, International standards. Family-style or buffet service is not provided. Indian-style sweets, canapés, or mouth fresheners are not available. ................................................................ I will be contacting them soon to find out about the possibility of vegan meals. I don't want to sit through the dinners in the evening and not be able to eat anything. I'm sure their buffets will have some food I can eat. Anyone have any suggestions? Anyone been on a cruise? How was your experience? I've have also never heard of Indian-Style Vegetarian Meals. A better explanation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to anyone who responds.
