We have two monstrous ones in the kitchen, get busy Though I still think we should make bread....I'm looking into that one. They're too big for eating on their own, they taste much better when they're little. ANYWAY.

I recommend investing in a food scale. It makes it really easy to measure your portions, and more accurately than with just cups/teaspoons etc. Plus, the one I have lets you input the kind of food it is, then tells you how many cals are in that weight of food. For instance, if I put a whole apple on, it'll tell me it's 6oz and 120cal of apple, or whatever it may be. It's just an estimation still of course, but much more useful than just guessing

Aw, I was coming to give my kudos to K-Oz, and now I get my own kudos too! I shall still say good job to K-Oz......Good job K-Oz!!!! Now on to me - Thanks Robert It was an awesome trip, and as I said probably a dozen times beforehand when we were stressing about how to pay for it, I wouldn't have missed it for the world! I'm going to have to take a few minutes soon and post some of the details before I forget.....HA, like that could happen! And, Robert IS easy to live with. I'm moodier than he is by far

I was being a smart-ass

Happy birthday Ash! Pumpkin pie sounds YUM! I don't have a recipe but I don't think it'd be too hard...I'll look around for one later after class

True! But I can't eat with you through the internet! You can if you use VeganMadre's picture method It's true though...I definitely need more peope to chow down on yummy vegan food with me...I've got my roomies (Topher and Rob) which in many regards is all I could ask for but the more the merrier! Can't wait! Hopefully we'll be able to make the financial aspects reasonable, because I am one decidedly broke college student, and that's not a situation that's likely to change any time soon. Maybe we can do vegan fundraising

Me too.....man there are some days I can just EAT. It sucks but it goes away eventually. I unfortunately do get carb-cravings when I'm stressed too though....and even though I KNOW I don't need to eat and it won't help, I still find myself doing it....horrible habit. I've been struggling to break it for years.

Darn it Robert! I just saw that she hit 1000 too and I came to the Gen Discussion to post my own congratulatory announcement...you beat me to it!!!! Oh well.....anyway, nice job Nat, we all love you and your input....you're a vital part of my vegan family! love ya!

She is at least vegetarian and I'm sure she would have absolutely no problem with eating vegan for the duration of the trip. By then, she could even be vegan--she does want to be. As of now, I talked her into eating vegan on the weekdays, as a start. Hopefully, she'll see how easy those weekdays are and she'll go completely vegan! Heck yeah you should bring her! What better opportunity to see how fabulous veganism is! If she hasn't converted by then, how could she not after meeting all of us

Wow....I can spell.....let's try this again! Glad to have you here!!!!

Funny, when I got up this morning (Ok, afternoon) Topher was watching The Goonies in the living room... I promised to take him to Astoria one of these days since that's where it was filmed, and we're BIG Goonies fans around here!

Hehe, what about me? According to the guy at Robert's show I should compete too! Oh.....and it's reckoned

Just my 2 cents from a purely femal perspective and nothing to do with bodybuilding/fairness/ethics/anything like that... I have a buddy who works now as a personal trainer, but used to play baseball. (In the minors, he gave up pro baseball for his kids, it's all a long story...)But anyway, the guy is HOT, no doubt about it. And as many of you probably know, steroids are extremely prevalent in MLB, as it's been all over the news in the last several years. He told me it's way more common than it's even portrayed as, and he said that doing roids was pretty much his only option when he was competing. So he did them, he got huge, blah, blah, blah. Like I said, just looking at him, he was gorgeous, beautiful body. He has any woman he wants, no joke. BUT! Here's the kicker. The steroids completely screwed him in the sack. He may look awesome, but he can barely keep an erection - he has all sorts of sexual dysfunction now. And he's still a young guy, only 29! The beautiful body is less intriguing when he can't get off, if you know what I mean.... SO, moral of the story....I know everyone here is looking at it from only a bodybuilding/ethics position and such, and don't get me wrong, I'm 100% against them for that reason too....but if that's not enough to persuade you, maybe the thought of having no sex life before 30 helps (Hope no one is offended by my story, I'm just trying to provide another perspective)

Hi Alessandro! I've become very curious about raw-vegan lately myself, but I don't know much about it - I'm very interested to hear your input! Glad to have you hear!
-
Wow Alex, you look amazing! Without a doubt your abs look way better, as do your lats. Much larger. That guy is definitely good competition, but I think you should have had it! (And I don't say that just because I personally think you're awesome. The pics prove it) Congratulations are in order anyway though! Anytime vegan fitness is out there proving what it's all about, we all win! Time to chow down and kick back now right?
-
Ok I just spent 10 minutes trying to take a decent photo of myself to prove I'm wearing my vegan fitness team t-shirt, but it's not working out to well...so you'll just have to trust me Robert is in the shower now, our stuff is packed, and we're hitting the road in maybe half an hour? I'm pumped!!!! California here we come!
-
Glad to hear it Michelle!!! And that's awesome that your son is in it with you, I wish I could convince my parents! (Since I've moved out of the house, they've gone back to regualar meat consumption, and they've never been anywhere near vegan)
-
Nat- Yeah, I've seen you say that before....I've never had the PureTrim so I don't have a basis for comparison. I don't think I've ever seen it in a store actually, where do you get it? I'll try it too I saw something in the OSU bookstore yesterday that caught my eye, I think it was called a Lara bar? It's apparently a vegan, raw bar like the vega bar...I thought Vega was the first? Has anyone else ever seen a Lara bar? I was going to try it but it was $2 and I didn't have that much
-
Good luck Alex!!!!!

I'm right there with you Ash. I have NO free time and I'm falling behind even though I'm working as hard as I can to keep up. It sucks I'm totally burned out and I've got a loooong way to go. Good luck though! You'll get through it! (That's what I keep telling myself anyway)

Ash, I like that plan - it sounds like it moves nice and slow. I definitely can't afford to give up the other cardio so I'll have to work it in. Alex - I've been working on my thighs for a few weeks now, and have noticed *some* improvement in strength...the little hills on the ride to and from school are easier now But my knee still feels like jello after I use it and there are several different areas of it that hurt.... I've had to fight through it before...when I still played competitive softball I had to do lots of speed and agility training, which was torturous. I know my legs are unbalanced, and I compensate for one with the other...I am not sure how to resolve those issues Can you think of any specific exercises that might be helpful? I think for the moment I'll just try the walking/alternating jogging bit and see what happens....I've NEVER been able to run very fast so that's no problem
-
I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions about how to work into a running program? I usually do my cardio in half hour or hour sessions on the elliptical machine, sometimes walking on the treadmill or biking. I want to run though! The issue is my 'bad' knee doesn't handle impact well. I've had a lot of injury to them, and still have almost constant pain any time I'm in motion. I was thinking maybe I'd just start slowly, like maybe 10 minutes of jogging worked into the rest of a cardio session, see how that feels, and work in longer pieces of running as I'm able? Because I so frequently have pain in my knees I don't really know at what point I should stop if it's hurting, how much pain I should tolerate vs. what is injurious, that sort of thing. I'm fairly well resigned to the fact that it's just going to hurt and there isn't a lot I can do about it....and I am determined to be able to just "go for a run" something I haven't been able to do in years! Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with this sort of thing?

I just got to try vega for the first time last week, and I've got to say I was amazed. The berry bars are YUMMY and I like the powder too....but mostly I just can't believe what a high quality product it is. It's spendy, but I think once it's available here I'll go ahead and splurge and just use it judiciously. I was definitely impressed!

I have a hugely irrational but nontheless potent fear of spiders. I have finally gotten some control over it...if they're outdoors, I simply move and let them have their space. If they're in my space indoors, I recruit someone else to help them on their way back home I learned how to share the planet with them, I'm just not ready to share my living room

PS- Thank you again everybody!!!!!!
