Hello everybody!!!

I became vegan in December 2008 for health reasons (high cholesterol & GI discomfort). My stomach feels 10000x better since adopting this lifestyle and my cholesterol numbers are great! (except I still need to lower my LDL levels by 10 - doc said more fiber & less sat fat - I dont think he realizes I already do this!).

I was doing great at losing some weight but have since stalled. Probably eating too much/snacking etc. I am currently training for a half marathon (just ran my first 10 miler last weekend) and I find that I am so hungry in the evenings after work which lead to my snacking.

I'm not sure if its a lack of protein thing or what, but I don't really know how many calories I should be consuming while trying to lose weight but also keep my hunger at bay while training.

I am also trying to phase out the soy in my life. I'm on birth control and just don't need the extra soy.

I'm almost tempted to start eating eggwhites again, just so that I can decrease my carb intake to lose some weight. help!

i'm 5'4 and weigh about 148 (too scared to get on the scale right now). I guess I just need to ditch the snack food & vegan cookies? haha...and ensure I eat more food throughout the day and probably more brown rice and quinoa & beans right?

Welcome! Congrats on your success so far. I also went vegan for health reason mostly high cholesterol, blood pressure etc. I would recommend eating healthy snacks instead of vegan cookies. Also eating more beans and oats and foods high in fiber with bring down your LDL levels. If that doesn't work with those last 10 points you can track your sat. fat because you can still be taking in a lot of if you are eating junk foods. You might want to try to front load on your calories more So that you are eating most of your calories before you burn them off not after. You do need to eat enough to recover at night though. Good luck!

Nice work running!

Night times are hard for me too. Yeah ditch the cookies. You could replace it with air popped popcorn if you reach the end of the day and you find you absolutely positively need some munchie salty carbs and add some nutritional yeast for flavor and a hit of protein.

Hi Everybody!!!

Thanks for the awesome welcomes and tips!

I agree, I think front loading my calories is what I really need to focus on since I go for my training runs around 4pm (after work).

I already have a blog I started in January Http://sarawithanhishealthy.wordpress.com I can only really keep track of 1 thing at a time - I used to be a member of a different, meat eating body building type forum a year or so ago. got to be too much with my wedding planning!

I will stick around and peruse the threads looking for ideas. I'm in such a breakfast rut! Ugh! Might start experimenting with green smoothies since I have a huge bag of hemp & flax seeds in my possession
