How hard is it really to get into Oxbridge? Is it true that Oxbridge only requires a certain number of As at GCSEs?

What everyone forgets is that the person that’s interviewing you will be the one teaching you for 3+ years. They are senior academics who make a deeply personal investment in your academic and personal development.

In the interview they will try to figure out if you are worth it. If you.

  • Love the subject
  • Clearly want to understand it more deeply
  • Are receptive to being taught
  • Are nice to hang around

They will likely offer you a place, even with borderline grades (like I had).

If you are

  • Arrogant
  • Defensive
  • Think you know it all
  • Don’t love the subject as much as they do
  • Just want to get in to Oxford and Cambridge because its “the best” not because you want to have a deep personal relationship with your subject that the tutorial system affords
