They were some beach shacks near Tulum which looked good - a little too basic and no protection from the mosquitoes - a couple from our hotel stayed there and got eaten alive. I would love to visit other places in Mexico - as Cancun is just basically a brash, tacky American resort - but I would struggle with the food unless I learn Spanish, which is something I want to do. At the far end of the Hotel Zone, they are still building - I was amazed at the number of hotels still being constructed. I intend to read up and research Mayan culture and heritage.
