ljk11
Is wheatgrass actually wheat? This sounds stupid but I'm not sure.If I am intolerant to wheat and gluten, can I eat wheatgrass? Or more importantly the new Vega Smoothie Infusion (which I think has that).
robert
Wheatgrass is gluten free. I don't remember exactly how their anatomy is different but I know that wheatgrass does not contain gluten and it is OK to have if you are allergic to gluten. Someone said it's like being alergic to cherries and not eating cherry tomatoes. They are totally different. I think wheat and wheatgrass are more similar than that, but you'll be fine with Smoothie Infusion. Brendan makes everything common allergen free so nearly anyone can have it. ljk11
Sounds good. I read the same on the Internet...I assume that barley grass is the same - not gluten containing like the grain barley?
robert
Yeah barley grass would be the same....gluten free. As far as I know. Good to check on it though.
ljk11
Actually, celiac.com places these on the 'foods to avoid list' because they could possibly contain seeds.
Guest
I think if they don't put the wheat berry in there would be no gluten in it...maybe I'm wrong but I think I'm right.
ljk11
correct but you never know it was in there. And labels aren't always accurate...the margin of error is risky for those who can't consume this stuff.
loveliberate
From what I've seen, it is pretty easy to grow & juice wheatgrass &/or barleygrass yourself. If ya did that and/or watched your grass being cut & juiced, then ya could be certain that it was seed-free. Since having the freshly grown & juiced grass is most ideal anyway, maybe this is the best option to explore.

This is why you only drink the juice...powders are fine but the juice is great and they only cut the top off so it can keep growing...don't bother with supplements.
