Special Deal on Organic Hemp Protein in Bulk
vegmama replied to Lean and Green's topic in Health & Nutrition Programs
i just want to put it out there for anyone who isn't sure about the hemp that LnG is carrying over at Veganproteins - it is AMAZING. $10-12 is so, so worth it!! i've never had a hemp protein powder that is so smooth and "non-grassy" tasting. it's not chalky or gritty. it is delicious mixed in with some dates and nuts. super stuff!! besides, you can't go wrong supporting a fellow VBBFer while getting some high quality protein in your belly! -

YUM! just got my hemp protein from VP and it is gooooood!! made some raw bars: 1 cup dates (i used medjool) 2/3 cup pecans 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2 cup hemp protein powder i processed the nuts and cinnamon first, then added the dates, then the protein powder. then i rolled out the mixture and cut it into bars and froze them. delicious!! -
not that this makes me 100% credible, but as a cancer epidemiologist, i'm pretty familiar with the soy literature (especially with regard to cancer risk). i'm going to have to agree with chrisjs and beforewisdom - i really think the issue is overblown. and when you really think about it, shouldn't there be more concern over the hormones and antibiotics in dairy and meat? i wouldn't worry too much about it, especially since you're getting protein from other sources like beans, nuts, and seeds.

rah rah! ordering now. (^_^) plus a few other goodies. hehe. here's what i'm going to try: dates pecans hemp protein ground flax agave nectar maybe i'll add a nut butter or coconut oil, but pecans are pretty moist nuts so it might be unnecessary. once i get the flavor and texture right, i'll share more details! so excited!! -

i'm so excited to order some and make some yummy raw food bars! -

Many thanks, LnG! Honestly, those short races are a lot harder - whereas you can cruise in an ultra, you've gotta suffer the burn in shorter races! I remember running 5k and 10k races as training and would feel like dying the whole time, but on the trails... it was like a beautiful jaunt with some suffering and lots of socializing! Just ordered Sun Warrior and Vega from VeganProteins - super, super excited to try them both!!

vegan pregnancy (my wife's pregnant!!)
vegmama replied to brandon's topic in Health & Nutrition Programs
congratulations!!! i had a vegan pregnancy and our little guy (he's 11 months now) is vegan. and for his first 6 months he was a raw vegan (hehehe - breast milk is raw right?). anyway, if your families need convincing, sometimes it helps to share the position of a "mainstream" group, so here's an excerpt from the american dietetic association: "It is the position of the American Dietetic Association that appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Well-planned vegetarian diets are appropriate for individuals during all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, and adolescence, and for athletes." and here's a link to the full position statement: http://www.eatright.org/About/Content.aspx?id=8357 as for your wife's nutritional needs, i definitely agree that a good vitamin with folic acid and b-12 is good. i took deva prenatals and still do (i'm still nursing and figure it's good insurance). honestly, i found that i didn't need to eat much more than i already was. an extra snack or slightly larger portions of what your wife is already eating (provided it is healthy and balanced) is more than adequate in my opinion. it will probably also help to find a veg-friendly ob or midwife. it's just one less source of stress. another book we're finding helpful now that our son is on solids is "raising vegetarian children" by jo stepaniak. (http://www.powells.com/biblio/62-9780658021558-0) feel free to PM me if you or your wife want more detailed info!! i am happy to share. -
