robert
What a difference a journal makes! I hope to see many more people on here starting Daily Food Journals! I'll make a new entry each day with date clearly listed. Today I'm off to a pretty good start considering I never would have had my protein drink OR oatmeal had I not decided to create a food log and be accountable for it. I slept in, but here is what today looks like so far. I'll update it at the end of each day, and occasionally, I'll update it throughout the day, if I'm home. Monday November, 26, 2007 10:00AM1 appleA few pieces of Panda licorice 10:30AM1 Green Protein Drink (12g protein, 320 calories) 11:00AM 1 bowl oatmeal with some raw sugar 12:15PM1 banana 1:00PM1 Vega Bar (10g protein, 240 calories) 1:45PM8.4 ounces Green Tea energy drink 2:30PMBowl of Nachos from Food Fight 4:00PM1 orange 4:30PM1 orange (At the gym from 4:30PM-7:30PM)30 ounces of water consumed 7:50PMGreen Protein drink (12g protein, 320 calories) 8:15PM2 Tempeh wraps from Blossoming Lotus (with greens, carrots, veggies, tempeh) with Vega omega 3-6-9 EFA Oil2 slices of olive artisan bread with Vega omega 3-6-9 EFA Oil 9:45PM3 pieces of olive artisan bread with Vega omega 3-6-9 EFA Oil 11:00PMI finished the loaf of artisan bread with vegan "cream cheese"8 ounces orange juiceA few pieces of Panda licorice 11:55PM1 banana Approximate Totals for Monday November 26, 2007: Total Calories consumed = 4,000 Total Grams of protein = 100 grams Total ounces of water = 35 ounces Other liquids = 35 ounces Notes/Comments: Most of my calories came from bread and oil today! I ate a ton of oil, many table spoons in total (at 120 calories per serving). I didn't get nearly as much protein as I thought I'd get and my fluid intake was very low. It's OK. It's good to know this. This is a sample, just one day. There were some good things about it, such as my meal frequency. I ate pretty often. I got a few pieces of fruit in, but not as much as I thought I'd eat. I also didn't eat too many veggies today. My focus was finishing off the bread and consuming a lot of oil. I didn't have many "meals" today, just one really, for dinner. It was a snacking day today. I think this log will be good for me. In fact, I know it will be good for me. I look forward to tomorrow's stats. Edited November 27, 2007 by robert
pamela
I thought it was going to be more like one big food journal for everyone who felt like contributing in the day.
robert
No. Everyone creates their own journal (everyone who wants to participate). It will be updated each day, or throughout the day. I hope to see a bunch of people doing it. I'd also advise people reading anyone's food journal to give it a solid week before giving suggestions, as we all have on and off days, busy days, days we're out of food or money, days we're traveling, etc. Unless you see something alarming, I'd wait a good week to get an accurate assessment of someone's nutrition program. I hope to see more people starting their own journal too!
robert
I slept in again today. I've been training more, so maybe it makes me extra tired. I ate as soon as I got out of bed so you can get an idea of when I got up Tuesday November 27, 2007 10:55AM8 ounces orange juice1 banana 11:30AM12 ounces orange juice1 banana 12:30PMGreen Protein Drink (12g protein, 320 calories)1 banana 2:45PM2 large plates of greens with Vega omega 3-6-9 EFA oil2 servings of artisan bread with Vega oil1 ginger ale natural soda from Whole Foods 5:30PM2 slices of seed bread with peanut butter8.4 ounces green tea energy drink (pre-workout since Zack reminded me to go) 6:30PM2 slices of seed bread with peanut butter 8:45PM1 banana1 Asian pear (at the gym from 9:30PM-11:30PM)30 ounces water consumed 11:45PMProtein drink (20g protein, 380 calories) 12:30AM4 slices of seed bread with peanut butter1/2 carton (2 servings) of lemon sorbet Approximate Totals for Tuesday November 27, 2007 Total Calories consumed = 3,800 Total Grams of protein = 125 grams Total ounces of water = 30 ounces Other liquids = 75 ounces Notes/Comments: Today was another day fairly heavy in breads and oils, but I liked it. I also had the two large salads and almost had two more salads after my workout but I wanted something heavier. So I went with the four slices of bread with peanut butter on each one. My meal frequency wasn't quite as high, but still good, eating 9 times during the day. My workout was late in the evening because of work and tomorrow I will take a day off from the gym. I think I'll be out of town all day tomorrow so it will be a day filled with fruit and energy bars and maybe one real meal. Anyway, the food journal is fun and it's keeping me well fed! Odidnetne
You wait until you get here Rob, I'll feed you my soups, nothing but vegetables. I think a burrito or two would probably up your protein percentage to something that's more within what you're looking for too, but I mean, "burritos, duh"

robert
Yeah, that is why I say give it a week or so before too many suggestions I normally eat burritos 4 days a week, so you'll likely see them on other days. Check back for updates. I hope to see others creating a detailed food journal too!!!!!!

robert
You mean about me gassing everyone out of my house or when I blew up to 191lbs a few months ago when davidtarrfoster made 16 burritos that I felt obligated to eat, right away

robert
Actually, it's all true (I didn't eat 16 in one day, but did eat 7 and I was very sick!). I even took photos of my bloatedness but have only shared with them Dave, Brendan and Tonya. I wouldn't want them to "leak out" on the internet because they are really bad pics! And, I was up to 191 when I consumed all that, so it's all true, no worries there.

robert
Do the math I couldn't even sleep that night, my stomach hurt so bad. Dave remembers it well. I even posted about it months ago...it is when I first went "RAW" to try to help myself after that burrito binge!

I'll have enough to go around P.S. I just updated my food journal for Tuesday.

robert
Wednesday November 28, 2007 I'll be out of town all day today so I'll be eating on the road, spending as much as 6 hours in my car today! I went to bed after 2AM and up at 7:40AM to get ready. I need to focus a bit more on sleep but my late workout last night pushed me back. Anyway, here we go. I'll update more later when I get home: 7:45AM2 mandarin oranges 8:00AMClif Builder Bar (20g protein 270 calories)10 ounces orange juice 10:30AMClif Builder Bar (20g protein 270 calories)8.4 ounces green tea energy drink 1:00PMBowl of rice, beans, veggiesGreen salad with olives, beans, salsa, tomatoes, more 3:30PMClif Builder Bar (20g Protein 270 calories) 4:45PMQuinoa, potatoes 7:45PMFood from Blossoming Lotus: Hummus, cucumber, red peppers, tempehAvacado, Quinoa, beans, sauce, kale, etc.40 ounces water 11:30PM1/2 serving chocolate VegaA few tablespoons of soy ice cream2 mandarin oranges Approximate Totals for Wednesday November 28, 2007Total Calories consumed = 3,000 Total Grams of protein = 130 grams Total ounces of water = 40 ounces Other liquids = 30 ounces Notes/Comments: I was in my car for about 6 hours today so I had a bunch of energy bars. I was also able to stop by co-ops along the way and get some green salads, some hot foods, etc. I'm still low in fluid intake, but I have to pee so often, it's hard to drink a lot of water while traveling, driving or working. When I'm home, I'll try to increase my fluid intake. Today I had a lot of veggies, greens, grains, etc. and pretty much no breads and oils like I did the first day. Tomorrow I plan on being in the car a lot as well, so we might see a similar day. I enjoyed a long dinner with andesuma tonight. That was cool, and the food from Blossoming Lotus was Great as usual. I ate at 12 separate times today Today was lot of greens, bananas, Clif bars and then finished strong with Vega. I normally don't eat much soy at all, but as I've been keeping track of food intake, I wanted to keep protein high, so 3 builders bars a day add 60g protein to my total. Still not much liquid in at all! But I had to pee every 20 minutes it seemed! Frustrating stuff! I'll work on taking in more fluids on Friday. It's about 2AM so I better get some sleep now. Today I drank more water than any other day so far. So that was a good thing. I didn't eat a whole lot of variety today so I need to focus on that for tomorrow. My late start cut out a good 3 or 4 hours of eating from my day which made it hard for me to hit my goal totals. I stayed up until after 1AM eating to up my daily numbers. I don't know if that is good or bad (since I should be sleeping) but it shows a certain level of dedication I guess.
Odidnetne
You're doing fine Robert, you've eaten more in the past 3 - 4 days then the whole time I hung out with you at Vegan Vacation, so you're doing all right.
robert
yeah man, I didn't even have time to total things up last night, so I'll do that today. I stayed up until after 1AM to keep eating Now I'm heading out but I'll fill out today's journal later on. Some days I'm eating up to 12 times or more (not meals, but times)
