Kathryn
There is a common saying floating around that every new idea goes through several stages before it is accepted. Anyone know what they are off hand? (one is ridicule, another may be violent opposition, but I'm not sure). And anyone know who first came up with the truism? Kathryn
7 stages of acceptance:1-shock2-disbelief3-denial4-anger5-bargaining6-depression7-acceptance But is this acceptance of a new idea, or acceptance of some new situation (illness, etc.)? The"depression" part doesn't seem to fit in with acceptance of a new idea. ("I'm depressed because the Earth really isn't flat"?) And I'm pretty sure that one stage of accepting a new idea is ridicule (of that idea).
pelicanAndrew
Well, you would be depressed all you knew was proven wrong. Or even a certain aspect. For imperfect creatures we sure don't take failure well.
Kathryn
Come on, I'm sure someone else has heard this here!Something like "disbelief, ridicule, something-or-other (maybe another something-or-other) and acceptance (like the idea the Earth is round, or that illnesses can be linked to microorganisms, or many scientific discoveries that people just can't believe at first).
