  1. This was going to be my secret recipe but everyone I have made them for wanted the recipe so I thought I might as well post it here too... Chickpea Patties / Burgers 2 400gram tins of chickpeas 100grams ground almonds 1 medium cooked potato (skin on) 1 large carrot (grated) 1 large red onion (diced) half cup sunflower seeds half cup pepita seeds 1 bunch coriander (roughly chopped) 1 teaspoon ground cummin half teaspoon (or to taste) powdered vegan stock, or garlic salt half cup of a wheat and gluten free flour 1 or 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil In a fry pan place the onion, sunflower and pepita seeds with a tablespoon or two of extra virgin olive oil. Stir this constantly over heat until the seeds have toasted (careful as they burn quickly). In a bowl add the chickpeas and potato and mash together. Add all the other ingredients and mix well. (alternatively - use a food processor) Shape into your prefered shape and cook till brown using a frypan / hotplate / bbq. (alternatively - put on oven proof paper in the oven on high heat, so that they brown on the outside without drying out the centres. Serve with a salsa and salad, or whatever...
  2. Sorry Evan... I haven't been on forum for a couple of weeks... The use of the 'nic' Nakeddragon isn't a nudist reference, the tattoo over my back is of a dragon, and the 'nic' has a more esoteric and symbolic reference. Although I usually just say it's because there's a dragon on my back and I have to be naked for someone to see it all...

  4. This reminds me of when our local Veg*n Society was having a meeting and dinner in one of the rooms of a local hall. In the main room there was a group of Jehovah's Witnesses gathering, and one happened to find their way into our room asking if we where the JW's. We said no we were a vegetarian group, so she looked at us all and commented in a caring voice 'thats all right, there's nothing wrong with being vegetarian'. We just all looked at her thinking, ummm ok... It then got into a small debate with her about Christains, the bible and vegetarianism to which she left before she appeared to be even less compassionate and unknowledgable. I worked with another who claimed that vegetarianism was the way we should all be, but sin made him be otherwise so he would wait until the 'second coming' when the world became a perfect place, and then he would be vegetarian. My personal pieve has always been the attitude of some Christains that because of the 'second coming' they therefore did not have a responsilibty to the environment now. I think I will stick to being a Pantheist...
  5. Another thing to consider is the use of plastic containers in the microwave... http://www.jhsph.edu/publichealthnews/articles/halden_plastics.html
  6. Ok, this is my first recipe post so be kind... I am one of those who tends to just throw things together, so I'll leave the measurements up to you who try this. So far it has been very well recieved by those who have tasted it... Date, Cherry and Pecan Tart with Maple Syrup... Base: A third Ground Almonds A third Oatmeal A third Self Raising Wholemeal, or wheat/gluten free flour Tablespoon egg replacer powder (optional) 100% unsweetned Applejuice -Combine a third almond meal, with a third oatmeal, and a third of either a wholemeal self raising flour or a wheat/gluten free self raising flour (which is what I use). -I also add a tablespoon of egg replacer, but should be fine without. -Begin to add the applejuice and mix this together until the mix is like a dough. -Push this into a lined or oiled pie tin/pan. (or alternatively make up little single serves in little pie tins) Filling: Dried Dates Dried Cherries Pecans (shelled) 100% unsweetned Applejuice (alternatively you could replace, or combine, the cherries with other dried fruits like cranberries etc) -Either soak the dates in juice overnight and process, or for the quicker method. Put the dates in a microwave safe container, add enough juice to come up a third the way of the dates, cover and microwave for 5 to 10 minutes until soft. -Quickly, taking care not to burn yourself, uncover the mix and quickly mix it up until it becomes a 'paste-like' consistency. -Mix in a large amount of dried cherries. -Push this evenly into the pie tin / tart base. -Push pecans into the top until covered. -Bake this in the middle shelf of a moderate oven until it appears to be browned. -Allow this to cool down. Serve: -Serve this sliced up, I prefer cold, with a pile of halved strawberries to one side, and drizzle maple syrup over the top of the pecans and strawberries and you can swirl it around on the plate if you want to make it look fancy. -If i am serving this for a dinner party I will sprinkle shaved vegan chocolate over the tart, and plate. Enjoy...
  7. Welcome Pheonix... being one who is also consciously walking a spiritual path I would enjoy to hear more about this. I know from my own personal experience that going veg*n improved my awareness greatly.
  8. Thanks for the compliements on the tattoo, but I thought I better not stand with my back to everyone for too much longer, hence a different pic. Gotta love the style of a shaved head Thanks for the comments on your experience...
  9. Given that I only own vegetarian cookbooks I recently took upon the task of finding myself a good vegan cookbook - although I was unfortunetly limited to the internet. I ended up choosing 'Vegan World Fusion Cuisine' - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0975283715/102-4606440-0512914 - but am still waiting for it to make its way over to my corner of the world.
  10. At the moment, here in Perth - Western Australia, it is around the early 30's (Celcius) and sunny. It has been the coolest summer on record for quite a few years here, one day it's in the early 30's the next it's cloudy and in the 20's, when usually it's mid 30 to 40's at this time of year. We had planned on swimming in the pool on New Years eve but it was too cold and windy to even stay outside. I remember this time last year being driven out of a national forest by a fire fighter due to a forest fire that occured while i was off hiking...
  11. That's sounds like a serious project. Nice symbolism.
