Mini Forklift
I've made a pact with a friend that we will pace each other for the 2014 Auckland marathon. Plan for the first part of 2014 is a few marathons to get back into the feel of the distance (first one is an off road one at the beginning of March), plus some half marathons to help dial in the speed. Running has started to get back to a reasonable level, just need to increase the distances from now on in

Mini Forklift
I'm trying a supplement from my work, completely expecting to get zero benefits from it in terms of running. But have been taking it for three days now and my last two workouts have been VERY strong.A couple of days I did a tempo run and knocked out 13km in a fraction over an hour, and that was with the first 4km ran at a very easy pace. Interesting...

Mini Forklift
Really looking forward to today, hard session of the week. Driving to Hanmer with the family, it's 140km away and is a thermal resort. Heading out after dinner and I'll get picked up along the way - will be a hard & fast tempo run. Just fueled up with muesli then spinach + mushrooms on wholegrain toast. Right, where's the coffee?..

Mini Forklift
Had a few good coffees in preparation for this big run then due to a massive family dinner running late it never eventuated.Turned out to be quite a low mileage week but made up for it on Saturday evening with a lovely 23km run. Took Sunday off and will head out for another decent length one tonight.

Mini Forklift
Well, after a pretty conservative and low volume start from now I feel like I can start cranking up the training volume providing my nutrition stays on point. Food has been good though, nice and varied and the curry I cooked for lunch today was beautiful. I'm trialing a new electrolyte sports drink, it's vegan and 100% natural so I'm going to probably start stocking it in my shop. Tastes great and isn't at all sweet (which I like). Fruit intake today was 4 bananas, 3 nectarines, 1/2 watermelon and a large punnet of blueberries that I picked from our garden. YUMMO. http://www.veganbodybuilding.com/forum/download/file.php?id=3358 http://www.veganbodybuilding.com/forum/download/file.php?id=3359 http://www.veganbodybuilding.com/forum/download/file.php?id=3357

Mini Forklift
Thanks Mike! Yesterday was a shorter duration, slightly higher intensity day. Ran a moderate paced 5.5km in the morning (picked up over the last couple of km's) in 27mins. Went back out and ran the same route in the evening as a tempo run and managed 25mins. Felt really strong and fast throughout that run which was encouraging. Good training week so far, off to Hanmer thermal resort again this weekend to unwind, nice end to a busy week. Mini Forklift
Has been a good quality week of training. Headed over to a thermal resort with the family for a few days, out for a 16km run later tonight which will bring my total for this week to around the 70km mark. Definitely getting both stronger & faster.
Mini Forklift
It was a good week of training, despite not being able to get out for that 16km run. Mini Forklift
Just under 6 weeks until the Motatapu off-road marathon, looking forward to it. I raced it a few years back and it's a stunning (but a quite brutally hilly) course, definitely the most scenic marathon I have ever ran. It's all private land that is opened up to the public once a year just for this race I'll be running it with an old fiend, no time goals or anything like that. Just get a good run in the legs and a weekend away at the same time, I think the first time I finished in just over 5hrs so it is far from a fast course. Mini Forklift
Ran into a spot of bother today... Went out for a run in our searing 30 degree heat, went the wrong way and ended up quite a way out from home with no water or food. Made my way back eventually and a very nice cafe I stumbled into gave me some water to see me right as I had gotten very dehydrated. I swear, when you are dehydrated iced cold water feels like the equivalent of taking EPO! I went from running 6min/km and wondering how I was going to make it home to finishing the final kilometre at sub 4.30min/km pace Was a good 20km run though, lost nearly 5lb in bodyweight. Not good lol.
Mini Forklift
Good for you ~ let's just say I won't be making the same mistake again. A couple of really good runs last week fueled by some amazing fresh food. Lucky to be getting lots of blueberries from our plants we have in our garden. Mini Forklift
I haven't updated in a couple of weeks as I have only managed to log about 20km for each week, hardly worth updating. Hopefully the next few weeks will be better and I'll get some good, solid training blocks in before the race.
Mini Forklift
Well I'm a week out from my first marathon in four years. My girls are helping to ease the pain of a punctured eyeball that I sustained during a run in the hills yesterday Back to hospital in the morning to find out how it is healing and whether or not it needs surgery. Life is all about challenges and overcoming them ~ I have never ran an off road marathon with one eye before !! MF
