V VII Hero
gas prices are going up big time. does anyone think our economy will go into another depression? I really hope some alternate fuel cars start coming out ASAP.
CollegeB
The alternatives will start to get more attention I am sure. If prices of gas continue to rise a recession is being predicted. Just keep riding your bike and using your feet. Food prices will also go up, so I hope everyone can keep up their food intake. Also I think the price of organics will become much closer to that of the conventionally grown food since they rely on gasoline much more than the organics. I am not saying organics will get any cheaper though. More people may buy organic if the prices become very close.
willpeavy
Gas prices have risen enough that the price of E85 (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline) is now cheaper than pure gasoline. So hopefully gas prices will keep going up and there will be more incentive for E85 to catch on since it is more sustainable, and much cleaner burning
V VII Hero
apparently 95% of the gulf is shutdown. and prices are sky rocketting right now to over $3.00 a gallon
CollegeB
You also get a tax break on an E85 vehicle, atleast in TX, but I assume most states have similar policy. Ironically enough there is no E85 available in TX.
brendan
Ha, weird. I was gonna start a thread about this cause I just got back from paying $29.59 to fill up my tank at $2.79 a gallon - and I have a fuel-efficient econo car (Ford Escort). It's ridiculous - I remember a few years ago paying like $15 to fill it up. Of course, I'm sure our European buddies are laughing at us, given the astronomical rates of gas overseas. Regarding a coming recession, my friend's dad, who is a financial adviser/stock broker, has been predicting a huge recession for a few years now. Anyhoo, luckily I live right on the cusp of downtown and campus so I don't need to drive much.
chesty leroux
Of course, I'm sure our European buddies are laughing at us, given the astronomical rates of gas overseas. Especially with our stupid bigger is better philosophy when it comes to cars. Stupid SUVs. But at least in Europe they have reliable and accesable public transportation. It's $3.02 here today. Insanity. And its so true, food prices are gonna be nuts. Looks like its gonna be beans, white rice and broccolli stems from here on out. ( which is ironically all i seem to ever eat anyways. with the exception of brown rice) My kingdom for a car that runs on vegetable oil.
jonathan
hehehehe! (european laughing! ). our gas costs about $6.50 a gallon so stop whinging! i suppose an economical car in the states does 30-35 to the gallon? that would be considered unefficient here. there are loads of different cars available here, from small 3door diesels (you guys dont have diesel - far more efficient) that average over 55 to the gallon (that the US gallon) and will do over 65 on highways, to larger 5door cars you can comfortably seat 4adults in that still manage nearly 50 to the gallon on average.US cars are about 10years behind in technology - thats why no one buys them here. jonathan

Renecarol25
I've seen gas between $2.99 and $3.69 this morning. We are leaving on vacation today so that sucks we picked when gas prices go up to take a trip. My bil & family are moving from Florida to NY and are stuck in SC now.. I think they can't buy gas right now where they are because stations are sold out.
