  1. Thanks everyone! I bought some rice protein yesterday. I'll give it a try. I am trying to lose some fat so I am reducing my calorie intake and lifting heavy weights (not doing too many reps though). I want to make certian that I am getting enough protein so I dont lose muscle, or at least minimize muscle loss.

  2. Some one told me that because of the bioavailability of rice protein it is not a good protein powder to use. Can anyone confirm this and/or explain "bioavailability"? I think it has something to do with how much a person can assimilate, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I want scientific evidence. If it is the case that rice protein is not ideal, then what about pea protein? What stores carry it? Do I have to purchase it online? Any information will help. Oh, I dont eat soy so that is why I dont just use it. Thanks!

  3. That does sound like a good burrito recipe and I do love burritos. Have you ever had a chimichanga? Its basically a burrito that is deep fried. They are terrible for you as far as fat goes but oh so tasty. You just cant eat them all the time.

  4. Buddha was a man, not a god like some believe. He says this himself.

According to this article you posted Buddha said it was okay to eat animals as long as they were not killed for the purpose of consuming. I have never heard or read this, I'm not saying its not true just that I never came across that in any books. I know not all Buddhists are vegan or vegetarians but I understood this to be because of slightly different beliefs, like some Christians think capital punishment is okay and others dont.

I think you can follow Buhhsist philosphy/beliefs and not be a Buddhist, they are after all similar to most religions though, once again, people interpret text diffrently.

A great book to read is "What The Buddha Taught" by Walpola Rahula. He is a Buddhist monk and he quotes from the original Buddhist texts, he cites all his sources.

One last thing, Buddha recognized that some people need rituals and such so he allowed it but it is not necessary in order to be a Buddhist. Some people think you have to have a shrine, a Buddha statue and some incense but this is untrue.

  5. First, let me say thank you, to everyone, for making me feel welcome. What a great community! I see that I'm not the only Houstonian; Hi Michelle! Daywalker - I'm sorry, I don't know Rhea.

Robert - great job with the site and yes I have heard of Brendan Brazier. He is an inspiration to me. Thats cool that you know him. I wish I was an athlete of his caliber.

Thanks again everyone! I'll be talkin' with y'all a lot in the future.

    -Sean

  6. . . . but I've been pokin' around here for about a year. I don't now why it took me so long to join - this is a great site. So, I've been vegan for two years now and that was one of the greatest decisions in my life. I'm another Texas vegan, I live in Houston. I really enjoy lifting weights but I especially love triathlons. Also, I love martial arts and outdoor activities like hiking/camping. As far as my goals, the thing that I want most now is a lean, chiselled physique, maybe a little more muscle mass.

As far as my workouts, lately I've been doing bench press, deadlifts, squats, power cleans and push press for weight training. Of course I run and bicycle a lot. And, I am taking Kung Fu. As you can tell I like to stay busy.

I love this website and from what I've read everyone is real nice. I'm excited about participating in the discussions and not just reading them.
