  1. Woot! I made set this morning and it actually came out good. It's the end of the semester and I have a long car ride home in a few days. I figured I'd make set trail mix for the ride. Usually I buy some from a local health health food store here. It's so expensive though. The granola I made was almost half the price and I got nearly three times more out of it then I would have if I bought it! Anyway here is what I put in it. I basically tried to use up things I still have left here.

    2 cups of oats

    1/2 cup of pine nuts

    1/2 cup of almonds

    1/4 cup of seasame seeds

    1/2 cup of sunflower seeds

    1/2 cup unsweetened coconut

    1/4 cup agrave nectar

    1/4 cup oil

I baked it for 30 minutes stirring every 10 min or so. I didn't think it was done by then though so put it in for another 15 min. Bad idea. I burnt it a little. Luckily I like things a little burnt some times :-P. Then I put in the dried fruit. All I had left in the house was dried mango and dried figs. Ski cut those up and just plopped them in. It tates good! It's not as "stuck together" as I would like but that's ok.

Thanks so much for this recipe!

I can post a pic if you'd like.

  2. THANK YOU ALL SOOOOO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!

I just got back from my bench press competition. It was a small event that we had here on campus but I loved it. It was the first time I have ever done anything like this before so it was a bit out of my comfort zone. Especially because I am this "puny" 132 lb kid and everyone was there was huge. But everyone was soo supportive and I managed to set a new record for myself.

1st lift- 140 lbs easy. I just wanted to get "on the board."

2nd lift- 165 lbs. This was my past personal record.

3rd lift- 175 lbs. New PR!!

4th lift- 180lbs but I didn't make it. I'm ok with that though. It means that I got to my max and went as high as I could go. I think that is better than not going to fail and not lifting my max.

But yeah I just wanted to let you all know how it went and to thank you all for your advice and help. I've only been seriously lifting for about a month so I'm really happy with these results. I can only go up from here!

  3. thanks! This is really helpful.

I actually am worried about making the right weight class though. There is one that is 133lbs and below and one that is 134lbs to 140something. I would obviously like to be in the 133lbs and under weight class. Only thing is my weight is right on that break. Some days I weight under 133lbs. Other days I weight over. Any suggestions?

  4. Hey everyone,

A week from Thursday I am entering a bench press competition. I have already posted on here a few times about it and I'm so thankful for all the help I have gotten. I just have a few more questions about it.

How should I prepare for the event on the days leading up to it? Should I rest for a few days before or do some light lifting to keep my body engaged?

What should I eat on the day of the competition? It is not until 7:00 at night so I want to make sure I have plenty of energy still by then.

Finally, the competition rules say that I get four lifts and can only go up in weight. If I am going for 205lbs, where should I start the first press? Lower, or closer to my goal of 205?

    Thanks everyone!!

  5. Hey Everyone!

I am new to this site and I wanted to know if I could get some advice. I am 20 years old and have been a Vegan for about 2 weeks now. Before that I was a Vegetarian for over a year. In one month my school is having a bench press competition. I was hoping to enter it and perhaps win for my weight class. Currently, I am 5'10" and 130 lbs. Kinda scrawny, I know, but I do have a lot of muscle definition and strength.

Anyway, I need some advice on how to train for this event. I've been lifting for almost two years now, but I have never entered a competition. I'm not sure where to start to really train for something like this.

Any help would be awesome! Thanks guys!
