  1. Here's the deal: The Montgomery County Animal Shelter in Conroe is closing down. They can no longer afford to operate given the state of the economy and an influx of animals being surrendered. They've still got a lot of animals who need homes, and they're trying so hard to find them somewhere to go so they don't have to euthanize them, which is, sadly, the course of action they're taking if the animals don't get homes. There are some rescue groups who are helping with about 80 dogs and puppies, but the cats are sorta left in the lurch. As of Sunday, September 20, there were still about 30 cats and plenty more dogs needing somewhere to go. I'd go and adopt, but I'm living with my parents, and they have three cats, so I can't. If anyone needs a new companion, or maybe a sweet, furry addition to their family, or if you just want to save a life, you should go and adopt one of the animals. They've gotten rid of the adoption fee to try to get more people to come and adopt. The last day to help is this coming Saturday, the 26th. They're going to be giving away the last of their little guys from noon to 4, or at least, I hope they'll be giving them all away. If you're not in the immediate area, maybe somewhere else in Texas, but you'd like to help and adopt one, maybe some of us Houstonians can foster a pet for a week or two until you can make it to Houston? I'm in tears over this because I'm so desperate to help, and getting the word out is the only way I know how.
  2. We're doing great! A little bit of college stress, but nothing too terrible. He's actually on his way over to my house to get me right now, then we're going to find food. I love that we're both vegan, it makes restaurant-finding fun. I can pretend like we're a pair of pandas, foraging for bamboo among all these carnivorous bears because we decided we'd eat plants, instead. I know that's the dorkiest thing I've ever said, and Dave is TOTALLY going to make fun of me for it, but it's these things that make him love me, I'm sure. Anywayyy, I'll tell Dave everyone says hey when I see him. Hope you're all well, and Christoph, maybe we'll see you again soon?
  3. I just got this in the mail today! Thanks, Rob! It got here really fast with a bunch of awesome stuff. (I usually stick with berry Vega, but I'm going to have to try the chocolate and vanilla chai samples you sent!) Oh, and I know in my intro post I mentioned I was dating someone on here, and had a couple of inquiries. I've been dating Dave B. (DAVegan, formerly Dave Vs. Robzilla) for a little over a year now. I was a pescatarian when I met him and almost immediately went vegetarian, then he went vegan, then I went lacto-veg, and now I've been vegan for about a month! He's been a huge inspiration and totally supportive of me. And by "supportive", I mean "gets on my case when I forget to take B12".
  4. It says to just Paypal you ten bucks, but I'm super new to Paypal so... will that give you our mailing address, or do we send that to you in an email or something?
  5. Well, I sure haven't found them! The only one I know of is my boyfriend, but there may be more in other areas. The inner-west side tends to be more liberal. Maybe that's where they're hiding...
  6. You also live in Austin! If I could pick one place in Texas to live, it'd be Austin. Houston isn't quite so liberal and open. There are literally no vegan restaurants in Houston, and it's the 4th largest city in the country. We have a couple that are vegetarian with some vegan options, but none that are strictly vegan. Oddly enough, Houston is known for its unusually high number of restaurants and the variety in said restaurants.
  7. Yeah, I'm brand new to veganism! I had been a vegetarian for about a year and decided to go vegan. So far, so good! My boyfriend doesn't really play any sports, but he's interested in bodybuilding and starting to get into it again. He was sick for a while and now he's trying to make some gains and put some size on. I'm trying to do the opposite! Well, for now, at least. Someday, in the distant future, I'll start worrying about increasing my size. Not anytime soon, though!
  8. That's crazy, considering Texas isn't exactly known for being vegan-friendly!
  9. Here are some before photos. Not really sure what poses are preferred, but I figured these were suitable. As you can see, I'm a bit overweight. I carry most of my weight in my lower body. I'm about 5'6" and weigh... more than I'd like to. I try not to worry too much about a number, though, because I do have a decent amount of muscle hiding beneath the flub. I finished Navy boot camp in January and then went to a special forces "a" school, which got me pretty fit, but then I got really depressed and stopped working out/eating well and gained some weight. I'm starting P90X tomorrow and I'm taking volleyball (an hour and a half, twice a week) in college, so that plus this fancy new vegan diet should equal success for me! I've got my lovely boyfriend for support (he's vegan, too), and I'm sure everyone here will be supportive, too.
  10. I'm a 19 year old college student, and brand new to veganism! I've been a vegetarian for about a year, lacto-vegetarian for 6 months-ish, and decided to make the leap to veganism. I'm also working on getting fit and (hopefully) into the best shape of my life! I'm a biochemistry major, a singer (I play a few instruments, too), very passionate about music and the arts, and I'm the girlfriend of someone on this site. I'll let you guess who.
