  1. yeah his trainer put him on a vegan diet. i would have like to hear him more enthusiatic about it. but at the same time, i'm hoping people get the message that it works. and Tony Horton (his trainer) is a minor celebrity himself. he's fairly well known from all those P90X infomercials. so if he's advocating it, the Old Spice Guy is doing it, i'm just hoping someone watching might say, "maybe i should give this vegan thing a try". so i'll file this one under the "any publicity is good publicity" file.
  2. you know who i'm talking about... Isaiah Mustafa (aka "The Old Spice Guy") was a guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno recently, where he divulged the secret to his physique is a vegan diet, "nothing with a face, no animals or animal by-products". Old Spice Guy discusses his diet though it doesn't sound like he's normally a vegan, it does at least show that more and more personal trainers are recommending veganism as the best diet to stay in shape, and also hilights the results that you can get when you leave behind a meat based diet.
  3. i was watching 60 Minutes last night waiting to see the Conan O'Brien interview, and there was this great story about Chef Jose Andres. i recognized him from an episode of No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain, so i was interested in what he had to say. a few minutes into the interview he started talking about how meat is boring, and explaining why he prefers fruits and vegetables to eat. "I believe the future is vegetables and fruit." "Let's compare a chicken breast, the best chicken breast from the best farm... with a beautiful pineapple. Cut the pineapple, already the aromas are inundating the entire kitchen, has acidity, a sour afternote, touches of passionfruit. The chicken breast.... it's okay." "Meat is overrated. Meat to me is slightly boring. I love meat too, but only once in a while. You have a piece of meat and you put it in your mouth you chew the first five seconds all the juices flow around your mouth they're gone, and then you are 20 more seconds chewing something that is tasteless at this point... Something like this does not happen with a pineapple or an asparagus or a green pea." here is the whole interview. it one thing to read it, but another to hear how passionately he describes the pineapple. he is not vegan, and he was talking strictly from a taste point of view (not ethical or health reasons). but still, it was great to hear someone who isn't vegan talk so negative about meat and so enthusiatic about fruits and vegetables. since he is such a respected chef, maybe this will get into the heads of some hardcore meat eaters.
  4. coming up this weekend... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQZB8md-HJI i'm really like both Minotauro and Randy Couture. both legends, both multiple time champions, so it's hard for me to choose a favorite there. but i'm also looking forward to seeing Demian Maia vs Nate Marquadt, more so than Keith Jardine vs Thiago Silva. Nate has already had his shot, so i'd like to see Maia win and get his title shot against Anderson Silva.
  5. i'm beginning to think you just like to disagree with me, LOL ran across this promo, they showed it during the event too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzbaOIHvrlw Fedor's first fight in Strikeforce will be against Brett Rogers. i would've preferred to see Fedor fight Alistair Overeem or Fabricio Werdum, but Rogers is still a top 10 ranked fighter and he just got done knocking out Andrei Arlovski. [sOURCE]
  6. for some reason, it looks like the Shane Carwin vs Cain Velasquez match has been scrapped. instead, they are giving a Carwin a title match at UFC 106, and Velasquez will fight Ben Rothwell instead at UFC 104. i guess they wanted lesnar to defend the title before the end of the year or maybe just wanted him to lose as soon as possible. so carwin vs lesnar, what do you all think? oh... and here is where i read it -----> SOURCE
  7. http://d.yimg.com/a/p/ap/20090813/capt.bd52603ef5334aabb543971ae1bdf4bb.obit_les_paul_nyet664.jpg Paul McCartney, right, tries out a custom-made left handed 'Les Paul Lite' guitar presented to him by the designer, Les Paul, left. 8. the women's fight was probably the most exciting and fast paced of the night. they just slugged it out the whole round. gina did show some ring rust after being inactive for so long. something told me that the pressure Santos would pour on would be too much for Gina. but good fight for both women, and props to them for brining women's MMA into the mainstream and headlining an event. Gegard Mousasi impressed me. i had heard of him, but never seem him fight. his demeanor in the cage reminded me a lot of the Emilianenko brothers (and i hear he does train with Red Devil). i knew Babalu was in trouble when i saw how calm Mousasi was. almost looked bored, like he didn't wanna be there. he had this "whatever" look on his face. but he went in and finished the fight in 60 secs. i wonder who his first title defense will be against.
  9. you know, Diaz had previously come out positive for marijuana after he defeated Takanori Gomi. i think it's crazy how his solution was to get a medical clearance for marijuana. it's like the thought of smoking less or not at all was not even an option. or maybe i'm wrong, maybe he has a legitamate medical condition and the best treatment is cannabis, who knows. but i've heard different reasons. one source sad it was ADD, and another source said it was for anxiety attacks. so i'm just not buying it right now. NOT that i think less of anybody for smoking out. i'm just saying if interferes with his fighting career, he needs to figure out which is more important to him. after all, it cost him a shot at the title. but anyways... everyone made weight. anybody watching this tonight? http://www.sherdog.com/thumbnail_crop.php?image=http://www.cdn.sherdog.com/_images/pictures/20090814052609_03carano.JPG&width_size=600 Gina Carano vs. Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos Renato “Babalu” Sobral vs. Gegard Mousasi Fabricio Werdum vs. Mike Kyle Gilbert Melendez vs. Mitsuhiro Ishida
  10. Top 10 Hughes Movie Moments which one is your favorite? from the list, i think my fav is the parade scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. but my absolute favorites aren't even on that list. for me, it has to be either the museum scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off or the .
  11. haha, yeah i think that last sentence is the most accurate. regardless of where he fights, there aren't many people who will give Fedor problems. i just found a place where we can watch the Carano vs Cyborg fight, so i'm pretty excited about it. i was sold on women's MMA since the first fight i saw, they deserve a lot of respect. also interested to see Babalu vs Mousasi and i just heard that Nick Diaz, who was scheduled to fight that night also, will NOT be fighting. seems he was denied by the California State Athletic Commission, because he never showed up for the pre-fight drug test. no show = no fight. so instead they're putting in Jesse Taylor to fight Jay Heiron. the real question is: why did Nick Diaz not show up and provide samples for the drug test.... was he worried they'd find steroids... or some of that Mary Jane he got busted with last time? EDIT FOR UPDATE: i posted that last sentence as a joke, but looks like it was right on. check out the headline at MMAWeekly.com http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v186/onedeterminedflash/MMA/NickDiazUpInSmoke.jpg from Diaz's manager: "The old guys were doing things based off of California law, and I knew California law didn’t change. He’s licensed... it’s legal. They’re own legal team came out with a ruling that said (compassionate use was allowed). Then all of a sudden they’re saying we’re doing drug tests, and cannabis is included, it’s not just performance enhancers. To flush it out of his system, it takes 10 days, and we don’t have that.”
  12. ^ interesting point i had not thought of before. after last night i heard talk of Anderson Silva moving up permanently to Light Heavyweight. i don't see the point in that, since he said current champ Machida and him are great friends and he would never fight him for the title. i don't think he should go into the division if he does not intend to go for the belt someday. i guess he could wait until Machida loses, but who knows how long that would be. so did anyone see the event last night? i was a bit confused at first by Griffin's quick exit. i heard at first that it was an injury and he ran out to get medical attention, but those stories were not true. so i guess he was just too emotional to deal with this loss. remember him after the fight with Jardine? i think i know what Florian was trying to do, but it just didn't work for him. too bad, he worked a long way to get his 2nd title shot and it must be heartbreaking for him to lose. i like how fast Penn was with the rear naked choke. he saw the opening, and BAM, we all knew it was over.
  13. 80's director John Hughes dies at age 59 he directed, produced, and/or wrote Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Pretty In Pink, Home Alone (and Home Alone 2), National Lampoon’s Vacation (and 2 sequels), Mr. Mom, Planes Trains and Automobiles, Uncle Buck, and Some Kind of Wonderful. i grew up watching his movies. the first 4 on that list are some of my fav movies of all time. his movies have left a great impression of pop culture. think of how many times have you've heard "Bueller... Bueller... Bueller.." or seen somebody do the shocked Home Alone face. "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." (from Ferris Bueller's Day Off) RIP JOHN HUGHES 1950 - 2009 Hughes's movies in pictures
  14. this doesn't have much to do with anything, but i thought you guys might find it funny. i went to see Public Enemies last night. to my surprise, Don Frye has a small role in it. i recognized him right off the bat, he plays one of the hired guns from Texas that Christian Bale's character brings in to help hunt down John Dillinger. here's the best part... appropriately enough, his character's name is Mr. HURT, haha! and oh yeah, there is an event this weekend. anybody watching? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmCr-Q3Rzh0
  15. Fedor finds a home in Strikeforce yet another reason to get showtime. apparently he will be fighting in the fall. but the big question is, agains who? of the top of my head, i believe Strikeforce has Fabricio Werdum, Alistair Overeem, and Brett Rogers.
  16. i think Rich Franklin vs Vitor Belfort is a lot better than the original main event. and he's been on a good streak as of late, so def good to bring him back. Ortiz is back. i just hope he focuses more on his training than his trash talk. and please stop doing that silly gravedigger routine at the end of every fight he wins, haha. they also signed Dan Lauzon, Ben Rothwell, and Paul Daley. i'm interested in seeing how all those fighters do in the UFC.
  17. yeah i was trying to make a joke. "a lot more lenient".... of course, they don't test the fighters over there. i forget sometimes that sarcassm doesn't translate very well in the printed word.
  18. well looks like we'll have to wait much longer to see Fedor fight in the UFC. Fedor won't fight for UFC yet just looks like neither side is budging on their negotiations. so now that we know this, i think Randy Couture might be the next to fight Fedor. well, depending on where Fedor ends up fighting. i believe Randy's upcoming fight with Big Nog is the last on his UFC contract. so after that i think he'll try to get a fight against Fedor where ever he is fighting. unless Fedor goes back to Japan, then i can see Barnett still getting a crack at him first. i think Japan is a lot more lenient on their drug testing policies.
  19. out of the demise of Affliction, at least one fight has been salvaged so far. Sobral vs Mousasi will still happen! "Strikeforce on Monday announced that the bout between Renato “Babalu” Sobral (35- and Gegard Mousasi (25-2-1) will now take place at “Carano vs. Cyborg” on Aug. 15 in San Jose, Calif." "the fight will now be a contest for the Strikeforce light heavyweight championship belt currently held by Babalu Sobral" i really have to find someone who has showtime.
  20. I do remember Davis and Hardy give each other a half assed hand shake and a “good fight” in post fight interviews. Seems Hardy was more willing to bury the hatchet than Davis (maybe because he won), but they did attempt to show some sportsmanship. I don’t know about Baroni, but I remember Gilbert Yvel having an altercation with a ref, horrible sportsmanship. and UGH… don’t get me started on Junie Browning. I stopped watching that whole season because of him. i can't believe how much they let him get away with. You can just look thru the ultimate fighter thread to see what I thought of him. He’s sorta like brock’s mini-me, equally dis-gusting behavior in 1/8 the size, haha. I hear that there’s a UFC press conference being held on Friday. Hopefully that will answer the questions about who’s coming over and what’s the main event at UFC 103.
  21. i knew Jake Shields was a vegetarian, but i had no idea the Diaz brothers were. but they all train at the same camp under Cesar Gracie, so maybe some of Shields habits rubbed off on them
  22. thanks for not posting any spoilers, i'm not sure if i wanna know the outcomes of any fights yet. MUST RESIST URGE TO GOOGLE!
  23. again... don't wanna get my hopes up.... BUUUUUTTTTTT...
  24. I thought it was Barnett’s 3rd time coming up positive for steroids. Man, imagine what’s going thru his head. Though Affliction was in trouble already, he must feel so guilty that he put the last nail in their coffin. Yeah, lesnar is def not putting them out of business, he’s bringing money in. though I can’t say I agree with his methods, he’s def gonna be selling tickets. I’m glad they are changing the main event for UFC 103. I have to admit I was a bit underwhelmed when they announced the Henderson / Franklin rematch. I wonder what they’re changing it to. Rumor has it that Vitor Belfort or Tito Ortiz might be added to the card… but against who? hmmmmm... http://bestsmileys.com/thinking/5.gif
  25. i'd have to agree with this. Big Country Nelson has experience against some really tough guys and even held a title in IFL. though Wes Sims has more experience, i don't think his most recent opponents have been the caliber of Big Country's. it sounds like it could be an interesting season. i just hope that with all the big mouths in the house, this season doesn't turn into another junie browning show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgaU61maH60
