  1. Whenever I go for a light jog or hike I'll take my camera along with me. Here's one of the many benefits of having a camera with you when you're out and about. http://fc04.deviantart.com/fs16/i/2007/212/d/d/Buck_by_purdatory.jpg http://fc02.deviantart.com/fs17/i/2007/216/7/7/Lone_Child_by_purdatory.jpg Obviously not really fitness related photography, but this is one of the major things that keeps me motivated to go on those day long hikes in and around the forest
  2. Figured I'd post something that I like to make from time to time at lunch. I don't usually measure anything out, I just make an appropriate amount depending on how many people I'm feeding that day. Asian Coleslaw: 1/2 bag of diced cabbage 1 cup of shredded carrot 1 tomato sliced into cubes 1/3 cup of cashews, crushed 1/4 cup of cranberries half a broccoli diced up Place all ingredients into a salad bowl. Dressing: 1/2 - 1 cup of Vegannaise 1/2 cup of Miso dressing (Or any other type of asian dressing, such as President's Choice Soy & Ginger dressing) Whisk vegannaise and dressing together in a small bowl, once it's a consistent texture, drizzle over salad and mix together. This is a fast little recipe, only takes a few minutes to prepare. You can go all the way and make your own miso dressing, but I find myself usually with little time to took at noon, so this is a quick substitute by using a pre-made dressing and combining it with vegannaise.
  3. Hi there Rebecca, seeing as you've spent some time in Peterborough would you know of any vegan friendly restaurants in or around the area? My friend is currently living there for the summer while taking school, I figured I might surprise him with a visit at some point. Thanks for any help!
  4. Hah, no, I didn't lose all that weight in a month. It took about 2 years to loose. The most drastic change probably happened in the past few months where I really started to take my fitness a little more seriously. Since April I've dropped from 180 to about where I am currently, I've also managed to sculpt a wee bit during that time
  5. I apologize if this topic has already been posted, I skimmed through and didn't see anything, so hopefully it hasn't been posted. Anywooh, I was curious about protein shakes and when the best time to take them is. I usually make a veggie fruit shake in the morning and split it into two drinks. One for before my workout and one for after, I usually hear that you should take one before weights and then one after. The problem is this, I usually take one shake in the morning before I go out for a bike ride that usually lasts two hours or so, then I return and have lunch. After lunch I'll do my hour of weight lifting and finish it off with my other shake. So the question is, should I hold off on that shake before my bike ride and down it before I do my weights? And how important is it to take a protein shake before your exercise? As you can tell I'm still a wee bit new and uneducated when it comes to fitness nutrition and weight lifting. Any advice would be muchly appreciated, -Purdy
  6. Hello to everyone, My name is Matt Purdy, I'm currently a nursing student at McMaster University. I've been vegan for close to a month now and loving it! Originally, the biggest worry about going vegan was that I might not be able to attain the fitness level of a body builder but thankfully this forum and website have pointed me in the right direction. For most of my life I've been an over weight person, at one point I was pushing 250lbs with a 40 waist size. It got to the point where I either had to change my life and eating habits around or suffer permanent health risks. My mother had been a vegetarian for several years and about two years ago she choose to go vegan; I guess it was at this point that I started to change my own eating habits for the better. I slowly started by weaning myself off meats and implementing a daily exercise regime. Recently after reading "The Thrive Diet", I decided to go full out and go with the vegan lifestyle, I couldn't have been happier with this decision. As of today I currently weigh 165lbs and have a size 32 waist. I've never felt better and I'm looking forward to any help with recipes and exercise routines that this forum can provide. -Purdy
