GRardB
This is one of the reasons I dont eat much corn. It tastes good and although I wouldn't say it's extremely healthy, it's not bad for you. But this really pisses me off: http://sweetsurprise.comhttp://www.hfcsfacts.com I just saw two commercials on ABC Family about how High Fructose Corn Syrup is no worse for you than sugar (and they pointed to that first website). They say it's "natural" and is fine "in moderation." As far as I know from doing research on HFCS, the FDA has no real "definition" of the word "natural" and is wrongly applied to many unnatural foods, HFCS being one of them. You can't find that garbage in the forest, jungle, water, or ANYWHERE! It's unnaturally made. It's bad for you. Now I won't blame EVERYTHING on HFCS, but isn't a little strange that the U.S. consumes the most of it (mostly because we don't get any sugar from Cuba, and it's expensive otherwise) and we're the most obese country in the world? Obviously it also has a lot to do with meat, milk, etc. but HFCS definitely plays a role in it. There's probably no real point in posting this, since this isn't news to most of you. It just gets me mad when large corporations try to advertise food as being "not unhealthy" (not necessarily healthy) when in reality it is terrible for you. Any thoughts?Gerard
chrisjs
The very last row of this table tells you all you need to know: http://sweetsurprise.com/sweeteners_at_a_glance.php HFCS probably sucks more than the industry wants you to think, but probably not nearly as bad as some people claim. At least, not nearly as bad compared to refined sucrose. Rather than worry about added HFCS perhaps we need to ask why we're adding refined sugar to nearly every damned product in the first place. Im Your Man
It's always good to know there are other people who don't appreciate the way millions of lush fertile land is dedicated to growing monocultured genetically modified crops, especially corn, most of which is animal feed for the meat industry, and high glycemic sweeteners for junk food. I can't drink most food and beverages with corn syrup additives in them anymore. I get a hyperglycemic feelings that really make me feel way too weak to perform athletically. It could be some form of acute diabetes for all I know. Breaking News: SYNGENTA ALERTS CORN GROWERS TO STRESS SYMPTOMS IN FIVE HYBRIDS SOLD BY GARST®, GOLDEN HARVEST® AND NK® BRAND http://www.goldenharvestseeds.com/newsdetail.asp?NewsID=42 It's good to know I'm not alone reading behind the b.s. of this revealing P.R. statement: "Syngenta is a world-leading agribusiness committed to sustainable agriculture through innovative research and technology. The company is a leader in crop protection, and ranks third in the high-value commercial seeds market. Sales in 2007 were approximately $9.2 billion. Syngenta employs over 21,000 people in more than 90 countries. Syngenta is listed on the Swiss stock exchange (SYNN) and in New York (SYT). Further information is available at http://www.syngenta.com. Damn that's crazy. By visiting Syngenta website, one can not help but laugh. It's so much BS, hypocrisy, lies and greed. Like the first phrase on Monsanto.com : "Monsanto is an agricultural company." It's a lie, they're a chimical company. They don't do agriculture, don't grow anything, and the seeds they sell don't grow without the chemicals it's been designed to resist, sold as a "package". The danger is that all this GM corn, soy and other products are not tested before they are sold on the market and in our food. The FDA only ask for the (falsified) results of the tests made by the companies.
RAINRA
watching a few old cheavy chase movies I laughed as I saw no overweight people. If someone was fat they had a little belly. Nothing like today.HFCS is in everything like some of you stated. I believe it started to be exchanged for sugar in the 70s. I am so amazed that 30 years later bam! people eat more syrup or sugar than any other country in the world. Plus we work more hours and eat a lot larger portions than anyone. So high sugar diet, little to no movement, and a lot of it is what is making people ill. I suggest that we shrink our portions. Get people to use to eating less and eat more whole foods. This has to start at a young age. Most of us will be brainwashed by the time we grow up. So we need to stop all this fast food and aiming at young children. It is no different than smoking... at the end a life of fast food will kill them unless they got the bionic man gene.
Im Your Man
all those fast-food, transgenic corn, pesticides and chemicals build the new cells of the vast majority of people. They reproduce (with the help of Viagra) so the quality of humanity as a whole decrease. Smaller sexual organs decades after decades, and less and less spermatozoids, tired ones that barely move. Perhaps in a few years it will be like in the movie "children of men".
