Hello. I'm newly vegan. I'm loving the lifestyle but struggling to find a balance with my nutrition while stripping some body fat to get back to somewhere close to my avatar pic.

 

From Canada living in the DC area.

We have a few competitors here and more and more joining all the time it seems. I'm sure you'll find that balance that helps you get shredded and lean on a vegan diet.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I am not competing or fitness modeling anymore but I'd love to look that way again lol!

Currently: 5'7 and 145 lbs

Goal: 137 lbs

Diet struggles seem to be getting a gram of protein per pound of body weight or close to so I researched some vegan protein powders and will give it a shot. I graze too much at night so that's done

 

DIET:

M1: 1 cup Silk w/1 cup frozen banana, 2 tbsp flax meal

M2: apple and 10 almonds

M3: 3/4 cup tabouleh, 3/4 cup black beans, 1 cup steamed green beans

M4: 1 plum, 10 almonds

M5: (oops, 2 Vega bars!!)

M6: TBD

 

Training: cardio 6xweek, weights 3-4/week

There is a great list, over 10 years old, for vegans and vegetarians in the area to network about what is local,cool, and veg*n. This list is unaffiliated

COK puts a great veg*n restaurant and veg*n resource guide for the DC Metro area:

The Vegetarian Society Of The District Of Columbia has some nice non-political events some times:

Poplar Springs Animal Sanctuary

Local animal sanctuary that takes volunteers to help care for the rescued former livestock animals. Horses, cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, goats etc. It is a quick drive but in a nice, quiet rural area. They do a few events a year

Humane League Of Baltimore

also does cool stuff and is run by high energy, positive, grass roots people:

Glut is a 100% vegetarian workers collective / natural food store:

I am a bit of a heretic here, but I will tell you that I do not concern myself with getting a gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. I do focus on eating as much real food as possible, staying low fat and eating a lot of greens.

 

Comments on your diet:

 

M1: I would recommend trying a substitute of a banana green smoothie that consists of 3 bananas, 2-4 large handfuls of spinach (the more the better), the flax meal and water as needed to get either a smoothie or pudding consistency.

 

M2: best not to mix fruit and nuts as you have a rapidly digesting food and a super slow one since nuts are fatty, so do the fruit in one snack and the nuts in another or wait at least a half hour after the fruit to then have the nuts

 

M3: seems okay but might want to increase the veggies as they are filling and super low calorie and high nutrition

 

M4: same comments as M2

 

M5: I would suggest a large salad instead of food bars

 

M6: could move the salad to here or eat steamed veggies or skip it depending on how late you are eating. If night eating is an issue then make it a salad with a ton of greens to fill you up. I find that drinking tea when I'm hungry at night helps also.

Excellent advice, thanks so much. I never eat bars but today I was at Whole Foods and they accidentally jumped into my mouth

 

Green tea, yes! Gotta love it
