crashnburn
Can someone please recommend some? Factors: 1- I am lacto-vegetarian (I hope this does not cause all the vegan core to start bashing me again). My stomach gets upset if I dont have yogurt.. (go figure). Being indian we use a lot of homely receipes that involve yogurt as a good agent for the stomach. (ANYWAYS.. PLEASE LETS NOT DEBATE THAT AND GO OFF TOPIC) 2- This is for a large number times when I have no time to cook and end up having to grab a veggie sub from the local subway 3 - I'd like something that gives..... Some Protein... Is not too expensive ( Please recommend good store to go & buy)... Is quick & easily microwaveable... Does not leave me hungry Ideally Id like to be able to cook fresh & eat but at the moment I need something of this sort. I could use your advise. ALSO valuable would be ready to eat bars / shakes etc. / snacks.

veggymeggy
I eat lots of Amy's Organic frozen meals (purchased either at WinCo or Fred Meyer) Some are vegan, some are ovo/lacto. My personal favorite is the black bean and vegetable enchiladas(vegan, there are also cheese ones) Anyways there are a large selection of nutritionally sound and really delicious meals that run between 2 and 4 dollars each depending on where you buy them. FormicaLinoleum
Yes, I also like the Amy's meals. My favorites are the mattar tofu meal and the vegan enchilada one. The drawback of those is that they are low calorie (sub 350) so probably not enough food for a full meal for most people.
willpeavy
Yeah I vote for Amy's too

crashnburn
Great. I guess I'll have to eat two of them instead of one. Now that we've determined a good brand of food to go with, can I get some insight into the following: WHERE TO BUY? (Cheaper / Value for money) - Stores or Online? Probably buy them in bulk. I have the following stores around here.. I havent heard of WinCo or Fred Meyer around TX. ?? Are they present in TX ? Following stores aboud:Kroger, Randalls, Albertsons, HEB, Costco, SAMs, Walmart etc. ITEMS YOU LIKED OR WOULD RECOMMEND. Can you post items you liked in terms of:- Taste / Flavor- Health Value (Good low fat, Good protein etc.)

FormicaLinoleum
I just ate Amy's Roasted Vegetable pocket (it's down the page here) and it was super yummy.
belleadonna
Yup, Amys stuff is real good. I also like Fantastic Foods Vegetarian Chili. YUMMY. And, you might want to try acidopholus for your stomach. That is what is in yogurt that you are craving. Especially if you have take antibiotics at any time. I take acidopholus (6 billion) everyday. I find that if I don't, I am prone to yeast problems. Now Foods puts out a vegetarian one that does not have to be refrigerated which makes it great when you have to travel. compassionategirl
And, you might want to try acidopholus for your stomach. That is what is in yogurt that you are craving. There you go, you can now have a happy stomach without supporting America's unethical dairy industry, where cows are far from revered. And I agree with the Amy's fans. Good frozen line of foods. crashnburn
SeaSiren. Thanks for the addresses. I had actually looked that up on their website picked up a bunch of stuff from KROGER. Been eating that for a couple of days now. Find that they are a little small.. and do not fill me up. HUNGRY! But delicious. It seems a little expensive. I am wondering its possible to buy in BULK.. from somewhere for cheaper ? Like a Costco / Sams / Big lots That way I can eat more than one . 9nines
WholeFoods is actually cheaper on Amy's. One around Alabama and Kirby. Voss, about 2 miles north or Westheimer. One around Beltway and Westheimer. And two others I think. You might want to center some meals around dried beans. Anasazi cook fastest (45 minutes.) You can cook them then refrigerate them. I usually make enough on a Sunday for 3 meals. Sometimes I cook brown rice to save also (takes about 40 minutes also) or just cook quina (spelling??) for each emal as that cooks faster. Then I have many frozen vegetables that cook fast in microwave. So from that one Sunday cooking, I have the following in about 15 minutes or less, for about three meals during the week: Anasazi beansGrain (rice or quina)Three vegetablesSalad (either buy fresh greens or prepared salads which have been cheaper lately.) I eat rice cakes or bread also.
crashnburn
Thanks 9nines. I missed that veg lunch the other day. I dont drink alcohol but was up super late with friends who do.. so I had no energy the next day.
Aaron
Trader Joes has veggie gyoza (potstickers) Just nuke half a bag and a little packet of rice and you're golden. Better yet add some lime juice and black pepper and you're super golden : )
