Best possible physique using bodyweight workouts?

Recommended Posts

I only train with bodyweight exercises and I would like to get a decent looking body, although am aware that to get really big muscles, I would have to lift weights.

I was just wondering, are there many that have created a good physique using bodyweight exercises alone and does anyone have any pictures of these people?

Mainly for inspiration and motivation I suppose

Look at male olympic gymnasts or strong male dancers. Most don't lift any weights(its becoming a new thing though). Some of them are extremely muscular yet flexible. The thing is they train for 8 hours a day and beat themselves up so bad it doesn't matter that they don't use weights.

What you could do is put on loads and loads of weight - in fat - then when you go to do bodyweight, you'd be lifting really heavy weights for push-ups, chin-ups and squats!

Actually don't do that! But ah, you can attach weights to yourself whilst you do the normal exercises if you are concerned. It is possible to get a really good physique just with bodyweight though.

What is your purpose?

If you train with hard BWE like OneArm-Pushups, Onelegsquat, OneArm-pullups, Ironcross you will get a very muscular body.

Look at gymnast or olympic wrestler.

This is a young german gymnast fabian hambuechen.

And i think this body is realistic with only BWE and no extra weights.

Sorry, i read that Fabian Hambuechen join regularly a weights room.

So he build (a part of his mass?) by using weights.

I don't know, if other gymnast use only their bodyweight.

The Problem is, it is difficultto find a guy that only use his bodyweight.

Most of this guys use BWE and Kettlebell oder Sandbags, weightvests, Tubes or other Tools.

Check that article out. It is really hard to find someone doing all body weight exercises, but if you need to young adults and kids who do gymnastics rarely touch weights and still build up huge amounts of strength. Midway through the article the trainer talks about a teenager he used to train that never touched a weight in his life all the while training in gymnastics, then in his first high school weight course he deadlifted 400lbs without never doing it before.

Its hard to find pictures, but there is one on there of him.

This site shows some cool bodyweight excercises:

Check out the one-legged "pistol-squats" page (link is on right side, halfway down). There are actually several cool bodyweight excercises on the pistol-squat page, and most of them are highly challenging. This variation of the squat is probably the most difficult bodyweight excercise I've ever attempted.

Eat and you will grow

What exactly do you think I should eat? This is where I also get confused and frustrated with regard to my meal plans. I ideally want to trim up my waist whilst building overall muscle. I'm worried about being able to eat enough to put on muscle, whilst still being able to lose weight around my waist and get great abs.

Any suggestions?

Choose! It's very hard to simultaneously gain muscle and lose fat. That's why most bodybuilders have a bulkingphase where they aim to gain as much muscle as possible (and also gain some fat) and a cuttingphase, where they aim to lose as much fast as possible (without losing to much muscle).

As for the eating part, I'm no expert in this. Just eat clean rather eat 6 small meals instead of 3 large meals. Calculate your daily calorierequirements and when you're looking to gain muscle add 500 and eat this. When you are looking to lose weight, substract 500 and eat this.

Lots of vegetables, fruit and protein!

Well, I eat differently everyday. but if you want I can keep track of it for a few days.

But.. Í have a grapplingtourney on the first or march and I want to compete in the 76- class so I'm eating as much as possible and lifting heavy 'till the end of januari, then in februari I will return to eating normally and focus on grappling. So you'll probably be suprised by the amount of food I eat.. Right now I'ts almost 11am over here and I've already consumed about 1500cals

As for the protein question... I'm kind of reluctant to advise you on this. Veganpotter clearly has a different view on this then I do, and opinions will vary greatly among most vegans. Right now I'm aiming at 200grams/day, but when I'm not looking to gain weight I don't really keep track. I just make sure that I eat something rich in protein after waking up, after training and before bedtime.
