sosso
Hi everyone, I joined this forum because I would like to get some advice on bulking up a little and generally improving my fitness and body. I'll give you a bit of background info - I'm 21, I've been vegetarian for around 2.5 years and this year I have moved closer to becoming fully vegan. At the moment I don't work out much at all. I like to swim a lot and I plan to swim at least 500m each afternoon after work and then gradually increase the distance. Other than that all I really do is a few sets of 30 - 40 push ups a day.. My job keeps me on my feet and I'm constantly on the go. I also walk quite a lot whenever I have the chance. I'll give you an example of the food I ate today - Breakfast - bowl of cereal with soy milk and banana on top, glass of orange juice and 2 pieces of toast with peanut butter. I have vegemite when I feel like it (I am an Aussie after all!) Morning tea - A banana as well as around 3 corn cakes with hommus Lunch - 1/2 cup rice (cooked) with mixed beans and a tomato type mixture (canned tomatoes, spices etc) Afternoon Tea - PB & J sandwich Dinner - Tortilla with vegie burger sliced up and mixed with more of the same tomato sauce, sliced tomato, lettuce, carrot and avocado I also snack on things like carrots dipped in hommus, mixed nuts, dried fruits.. I feel that I need to basically eat more and exercise more. I don't want to be huge, just a little bigger and have more definition, especially in my chest and arms. I would also like to lose the love handles.. At the moment joining a gym is out of the question as I really can't afford it, so if anyone has some suggestions of exercises I can do at home or anywhere other than a gym that would be great! Here are a few photos to show you where I'm at right now - I'm around 6' tall and weigh 167 lb or close to 76 kg. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v52/essjayyell/Photo65.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v52/essjayyell/Photo66.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v52/essjayyell/Photo67.jpg The type of body I would like to have is something like this - http://www.originalolympics.com/Sport/Aquatics/images/Kenkhuis-Johan-2004-6.jpg So basically, a swimmer's body.. If anyone can help out I would really appreciate it. I've had a look at a lot of before and after photos on the forum and they're really inspiring! cubby2112
Welcome Sosso! I am not well-versed in different bodyweight exercises you can do without equipment, but many others are. You will find the help you need. You look to have a good build for attaining the body type you want. And yes, I would say you need to eat more. Beans are great for bulking on a vegan diet. Guest
Welcome Honestly if its naturally in your body you can get a body like that just swimming but you've gotta do different strokes and employ handle paddles and fins occasionally. Swimmers have great builds and many of them don't do much lifting at all outside of some lat pulls. So I say if you can't afford to go to a gym stick to the pool...work on distance...and try some different strokes.

sosso
Thanks for the welcome and tips everyone. Over the last week I've been eating a lot better thanks to some great food my family cooked over the holidays and I've been swimming quite a lot, both in the pool and out in the ocean, bodysurfing etc and I definitely feel a lot better. My chest is starting to feel a bit tighter.. still got a long way to go, but i feel like I'm making a little progress.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v52/essjayyell/Photo71.jpg
