michaelhobson
I didn't really understand at first what the author was trying to say in that article. Popular Science really elaborated on the subject a couple of years ago http://www.popsci.com/scitech/article/2005-06/can-fruit-be-saved
DV
Thanks for both links. We stopped eating bananas last year, after learning about the social, environmental and habitat destruction caused by the industry. And we don't miss them - although it was a bit like taking cheese away from my husband at first.
Im Your Man
One more reason to invent a time machine and travel in past: to save bananas from their future death.
dontxhide
Thats intense. I never knew Chaquita was such a horrid company.
Marcina
I first heard about bananas dying out many years ago. They're still one of the cheapest fruits to buy right now. I don't know if I could live without bananas
cubby2112
I have been meaning to drop bananas from my diet for a while due to the labor issues and such. Is there any way to get some variety that is produced fairly? I would like to be able to eat some at least every now and then.
Tasha
no you can't take them away from me Ask Andesuma if she'll beam us up so we can save our banana's.
VeganGirl2006
Wow. I had no clue that Chiquita was such a terrible company. I don't know of any other brand of bananas that are sold in my area either. I'll have to just look around.

That implies they are fair trade but I don't know what their standards really are.

I will see if the bananas my local coop has are fair trade. Thanks for this article by the way, it got my butt back into gear to switch to a fair trade source or stop eating bananas.
