beforewisdom
FromAmazon.com: Flax Your Way To Better Health This book is specifically about flax seeds, rather than flax oil oressential fatty acids. The book starts with a brief and very interesting history of the useof flax seeds. The bulk of the book is a listing and explanation of studies thatdemonstrate the health benefits of eating flax seeds. Theexplanations are written in a clear and friendly language suitablefor all types of adult readers. The upshot of many of the studies described in the book is thateating flax seeds is beneficial for your health and that eating flax seedshas health benefits you will not get by taking flax oil. This isgood news for the health conscious consumer. Flax oil is expensiveand highly perishable. Flax seeds are cheap and stable. The book ends with 15 recipes that use flax seeds as an ingredient. The recipes come with nutrition information, including how muchflax a person can expect to consume with each serving. Nine of therecipes are vegetarian, five are vegan, and one is omnivorous.

Pegesus
As stated above Flax Seed is better than Flax Oil. Now with that said there is really only one flax oil I would recommend that is just about as comparable to Flax Seeds and that is Barlean's. It is fresh flax oil and has a very short date on it. If you are going to do flax oil then this is the only one I would recommend. Otherwise as Vegan Joe showed about get yourself a bag of Bob's and a cheap coffee grinder and go to town. Ducati
A vitamix dry blade will grind up flax seeds to a powder. If you don't grind them or chew them very well, they won't do anything for you because you won't digest them.

cubby2112
The cyanide content of flax isn't a worry. Many nuts contain it. The level is so small that it isn't a risk unless you are eating an insane amount of flax (at least ten tablespoons or so, according to most sources). If you are really worried, you can toast the flax lightly, which will break down the cyanide and will not hurt the omega 3s.
