compassionategirl
Never tasted tamari. How does it compare, taste wise, to soy sauce. If a recipe calls for tamari, is it close enough in taste to soy sauce such that I can just use soy sauce in its place?
Guest
Its not quite as potent...almost like a watered down version but it doesn't make it any thinner. Personally I like it more since I feel more comfortable using alot of it and I don't feel so comfortable drenching things with soy sauce. I'd use it all the time if I could find it in the gallon jugs I buy my soy sauce in.
nobbi
It's quite different than soy sauce. More salty and thinner. I like it a lot. If you find the taste too salty then try Shoyu. Some stuff, less salt.
CrispyQ
They both just taste salty to me. I buy low sodium tamari. It's a bit off topic, but I have a hard time finding vegan egg roll wrappers. Any suggestions, anyone?
Kathryn
Some have wheat (soy sauce?) while others don't (tamari). "Soy sauce" you find in the grocery stores is just a bunch of colorant and chemicals and salt. Tamari is a naturally-produced 'soy sauce." Nama Shoyu is an unheated 'soy sauce' that still contains living good bacteria (much like yogurt and other cultured foods).

Evan
Careful of soy sauce. Sometimes it has anchovie paste in it. Read that label...as I'm sure you already do
loveliberate
Really? I've never seen that... Any particular brand you found to have anchovies in it?
ljk11
They're not that different to my knowledge. You could sub them in recipes for each other!
