  1. Whew I was about to come post the same thing lol
  2. The other thread made me wonder-- what macros (more specifically percentages of macros) do you use in your nutrition regimen? Just curious
  3. Wow, no clue how I'd begin to get that much protein even including my post workout shakes. That puts me at 198g of protein per day. Whereas if I do 35% of my calories from protein (trainer has me at 1500 calories) my math is putting me at only 132g.
  4. I'm going to start going to a dietitian soon enough, but I have to pay my deductible before I can so that won't be any time in the next month or so. Until then I'm trying to come up with the macros that are best for me. When I was considering doing fitness competitions I was using a high protein diet, but now I've been reading a bit about the "Kearns System" for fighters which is 40%p, 40%c, and 20%f. Does anyone follow this? If not, what kind of macros do you use?
  5. This is awesome and I'm buying one on the 25th when we get paid again
  6. Christianity Children's Ministry Reading Writing Anything Crafty Activism (for more than just AR) Anything nutrition/fitness related (besides BBing)
  7. Really? I don't find that to be the case at all. Then again the few foods I eat that contain trace ingredients I have called or written to find out the sources of them so I know they aren't animal sources. I don't rule sugar and mono-di-glycerides out completely...I just find out their sources.
  8. http://www.myspace.com/shethrowsdown I don't get on much but yea.
  9. I've actually been a member here under this username (and an old one I never really posted with) for a bit, but have never introduced myself or even posted. So here's the long version My name is Christina. Some call me Christi, that's fine too. I'm a 23 year old wife and mother of two. My husband's name is Alex. My son, Jacob, is two and a half. My daughter, Summer, is almost eight months old. I live in Western NC, more specifically right outside of west Asheville. Before having my son I began working out here and there, but not even enough to get a gym membership. After having him I decided to start working out on a more regular basis. My goal was to do fitness competitions or fitness modeling (since I had previous print modeling experience). I soon found out I was pregnant with my daughter and didn't go to the gym as often. Not because I couldn't, I just didn't feel like going to be honest. During the time I was pregnant I started reevaluating my fitness goals. I went to watch a pro competition and decided that just wasn't exactly what I was hoping to be my end goal. I spent a lot of time researching and whatnot. For a while I had been going to watch my husband do BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) and had thought it looked fun, and eventually I also began watching mixed martial arts. Before UFC was big and MMA was more of an underground thing I had a few people tell me that I should try it...but I didn't know much about it and wasn't really up for it. Then during that time of reflection on my goals I decided hey...why not? After Summer was born I started working out again. Not as hard as I could have, but on a regular basis. Long story short, at this point I've started training more seriously to eventually compete in female MMA. I learn lots of BJJ From my husband and plan on doing more classes soon at the gym that he goes to. I do boxing at home (we have a heavy bag in our garage) as well as doing some at an MMA gym. I also take boxing conditioning classes twice per week. My biggest goal right now, short term, is finding a registered dietitian who can help me work more on my eating. I know I eat healthy but my trainer is wanting me to go see one to give me an actual personalized meal plan. Whew so that's the fitness part of it all, now onto the veganism! I became a vegetarian at age 11. I joined the local college's animal rights group and began doing protests and whatnot. Around age 16-17 I chose to become vegan. Since then I've been vegan other than during my pregnancies when I chose to be an omni. At that time I didn't know much about having a vegan pregnancy and didn't want to do something I was uncomfortable about my knowledge of. So instead I just chose to be omni. If I ever had another pregnancy, which I don't want lol, I would this time be vegan since I have now researched veganism and pregnancy to the point I'd be comfortable with it. I'm part of my city's local vegetarian society (which is mostly vegan) and I was supposed to throw a VegFest this year. However it has been postponed due to my father being diagnosed with colon cancer, I just couldn't do it. Well I guess that's the jist of it! So hi!
  10. I know that the BJJ gym my husband goes to also does MMA on certain nights - I'll give them a call and see when they do that and how much it is (because it's cheaper paying by month rather than paying mat fees every time you go - obviously). "Your husband should be able to help you figure out your training if he's already training/fighting in mma events." Right now he only trains MMA here and there, his main focus is BJJ. He says that he's too old (27) to really get into MMA more, I think he's crazy. But he says that he can compete in BJJ tournaments for "forever" (as he puts it). But I know that he'll be able to at least help me some. Thanks for all the advice
  11. Before having my daughter (second child) I was beginning to train in hopes of maybe doing some women's physique competitions. I hadn't done much research about it and after going to an actual competition I decided that wasn't exactly what I wanted to aspire to. Big ups to women who do it - just not for me. My husband trains in MMA and I've had people tell me over the years (even before UFC started getting so big) that I should consider getting into it - but I always shrugged it off. Recently I decided it's really something I want to pursue. I have very recently taken up boxing. I have been told by my husband (who isn't the biggest compliment giver usually) that I'm "a natural". I also showed a video of me going at the heavy bag to a local boxer who said that he's really surprised I've only been doing it as long as I have and he also said what my husband did...that I'm "a natural". So I'm really thinking all of this is something I want to seriously pursue. The thing is that when it comes to training (working out at the gym as well as beginning to go to martial arts gyms) I have no clue where to begin with MMA. I've heard a few people on some other sites mention that they start training one thing (for me, this would be boxing) and then once they feel comfortable doing it they add in another thing (planning to either do BJJ at the gym my husband goes to or take Muay Thai classes) while still doing the first and so on and son on. Is this a good way to go about things? Start with one and then slowly add in more? And when it comes to being in the gym (working on conditioning, etc etc) what things would be good for me...especially with currently working on boxing? Hope that all made sense and hope that I can get some pointers, TIA
