  1. Maybe it just holds for lower mammals. I checked on Orangutans. They reach puberty about same time as humans(11-15 years of age) but die around 30 to 40 years, in wild and 50-60 years, in captivity.
  2. Some thoughts: Is all nutrition destined to be wrong? Possibly, because biologically, any diet that allows us to live to 25 years of age is successful. That is long enough to rear children and keep the species going. That is all biology requires to keep us going. So evolution is not going to wean us away if our diets make us die at say 40, 50, 60 etc. years of age. What is optimal should be viewed differently. What diet would allow us to live, as most other mammals do, to 13 times our age of puberty (so about 150 to 175 years), in good active health? If most (I think almost all) mammals live to 13 times their age of puberty, why does man die at half his?
  3. I usually have three or four. Always within 5 minutes of waking, in the morning (small to medium amount). Again mid morning (large amount) Again between lunch and dinner (small to medium) And usually after dinner (small to medium) Maybe it is good or bad - I am worried if digesting so quickly maybe I am not absorbing nutrients well.
  4. Sorry for possibly 'gross' subject but since we eat somewhat similarly and exercise somewhat similarly, I wondered if you would share how long it takes food to pass through you? I am pretty sure about 13 hours for me. I usually pass some waste within 5 minutes of waking then again about two hours later. From that two hours later one, I can usually tell it was what I ate the night before, about 13 hours earlier. I can not find a 'normal' time frame, searching the internet. There are many estimates but none really as quick as I experience. So maybe 12 to 13 hours is good or maybe bad (worried about not properly difesting food if it goes that fast.) Since most do not eat as much fiber as we do or exercise as much as we do, maybe 13 hours is normal for us? Others?
  5. On Carbohydrates: Plenty in fruit. On protein: Average fruit is 5% to 15% protein as far as is calories. So if you get enough calories and eat varied fruits, you get enough protein. On fat: Unless you eat avocados, or some other high fat fruit, your fat might be low but then maybe the 'normal' fat recommendation is what is wrong and you are right about our 'normal' nutrition guidelines being wrong.
  6. Got idea from pizza I had a restaurant but was tainted with parmesan cheese. Prepared pizza crust (could make fresh) and just topped it with: black olives minced for base, palm hearts (very good flavor - strong flavor like cheese), oil soaked sun dried tomatoes and poured some of the tomato oil over all toppings. Baked per the crust directions (350 for 15 minutes.) It was very good to me. I crave another one two days later but will wait so I do not get tired of it so quickly.
  7. While very rare, you can drink too much water (deplete your electrolytes): It is called Hyponatremia or Water Intoxification. If your body depletes its sodium and other electrolytes cellular energy exchange is halted or retarded. I read that the US military restricts how much water people drink in basic training because there have been deaths from it, during basic training. It is very rare and when it occurs it usually distance runners that have it but most take sodium and other electrolytes to mitigate the risk.
  8. Sidenote: Something interesting and a challenge to you in other parts of the country. Janice says that her show is the only vegan show on all Pacifica stations. This is in Houston, hardly a progressive city. Come on, can't more progressive cities that have Pacifica radio get a show going : ) Not sure what it would entail but it might be easy to get a one hour weekly show on your local Pacifica station. Anyone interested? I can give you Janice's contact information and she could give you advice.
  9. I did not even notice. I just could tell from the videos, it was from Robert's site. I wrote to Janie Blue, the show's host and told her she might have the wrong link.

  11. I will just bring two cereal boxes and two non-refrigerated (until opened) containers of rice milk, so I always have food.
  12. Well, at least he and his followers won't be around long!! Yeah. Did you catch the fiber recommendations. Eating 3 grams or less of fiber, I guess he edits his website, while sitting on a toilet. Seriously, could you imagine how you would feel, if you ate that way. My skin feels oily just imagining how bad a person, tha ate that way, would look. I am going to go wash my face.
  13. Do I just have bad luck or does this happen to others? I hate restaurants. I do not even know why I try to go to them. I went. I ordered and the waiter said, "oh you are the one that called." I answered politely, "yes" and I politely asked, "with the feta not on mine, is there anything else a strict vegetarian would not eat on it." He smiled and said, "vegan? Yes it would be totally vegan then." It came. It was good but small. Then after eating about one fourth of it, I noticed it had some yellowish-white strands about one centimeter long, melting. It was sparse amounts but was on all the toppings. I did not say anything and being hungry and it being so little, I ate it. The restaurant was not very busy; it was early, so I see no excuse for what happened to have happened. I understand the staff actually cooking the food is just following the orders but if I phoned about ingredients and then iterated my questions to the waiter who used the word 'vegan' on his own, why can the waiter not tell the staff not to add the cheese (again, the restaurant was not busy.) The menu did not state any parmesan or mozzarella cheese was on the pizza, so there is no way I could have known. The waiter should know the food. Or am I completely wrong assuming it was cheese. Is there something else with that description (thin, short, whitish strands that melt?) Sorry for the rants but I wanted to express myself.
  14. I usually have a cereal and rice milk at work but ran out; I am going to store tonight. Does pizza crust normally have egg or diary in it? I found a restaurant with vegetable pizza (has feta cheese standard but I will ask for it not with that.) I called and the restaurant said the crust has no egg or diary in it. I never thought about it before but being a flat bread I guess diary and eggs are not normally in pizza crust. Anyone know?
  15. No just convenience stores but no grocery stores. I used to eat a vegetable sandwich and black bean soup at Cafe Express but a manager told me the bread provider changed and the new bread has eggs and milk in it. There are not too many vegetables (fennel, spinach and carrots, with humus to be much calories without the bread, so I do not ant to get it and jus not eat the bread.) I might take a bus to a vegetarian restaurant but it would take probably an hour half to two hours so might get into trouble being gone so long.
  16. I bring my lunch everyday and I forgot. I never eat at restaurants, except an Asian vegan one, once a month (I can not go there because it is about 10 miles away and I rode a commuter bus to work.) I worked-out pretty hard yesterday evening, so I am very hungry. I might go to Café Express and get black bean soup and side vegetables but ordering that way is al carte, so fairly expensive and it is not really that much food. There is a Cajun restaurant that has vegetarian red beans and rice but I am not sure I trust them plus it is white rice. I work downtown, in Houston (anyone have specific suggestions for it) or general suggestions (there are the normal fast food, sandwich shops etc. ) Thanks.
  17. Uncle Eddies Vegan cookies are pretty good for prepared cookies.
  18. This video reminds me of something I think about when I see people buying or drinking milk. Thought: I highly doubt many people would drink human milk, even if it were pasteurized and processed, as cow milk is, and then sold in stores. Most would quickly declare it "gross." Yet most of those same people drink a beast's milk. That is weird to me: think your own species' milk is gross yet you drink another's. Also, half of our species are attracted to the body part from which the human milk is delivered and I doubt they find cow utters attractive. Yet, they view milk from the former as being gross, while drinking the milk from the latter?
  19. Actually those posters seemed pretty open minded. Want a laugh: go here http://www.biblelife.org/vitamins.htm This web site will prove the most healthy diet is: 70% total fat on a calorie basis 31% saturated fat 7% polyunsaturated fat 25% monounsaturated fat 27% protein 3% carbohydrates (20 gm of which 3 gm or less is fiber). Some people think the body needs carbohydrates, but that is not the case. The body is made, healed and maintained entirely by the protein and fat in the diet. The daily requirement for carbohydrate is ZERO. http://www.biblelife.org/exercise.htm Exercise Can Kill You Exercise is not the panacea to awesome health as nearly everyone claims. Almost universally health and diet books rave on and on about the importance of exercise. No book can be listed here as a reference that says anything critical of exercise. Science and actual results tell a far different story, proving that exercise can lead to numerous diseases - several that will bring an early death. Exercise does not make obese people thin and never did. It has all been a big fat lie. #Don't eat carbohydrates for energy because it causes metabolic syndrome. http://www.biblelife.org/animal_rights.htm A little ways down you will find: Are Vegetarian Diets Worse Than Terrorists? then: The Bible Condemns Abstaining From Eating Meats. The Bible describes those who recommend abstaining from eating meats as extremely evil. They are teaching doctrines of devils with lies and hypocrisy. The same is said about those who are against marriage. Vegans suffer from their diet by failure to thrive at best. They appear sickly with gray skin tone, weak muscle tone and weak immune systems. Vegan Males Become Wussies. The vegan diet wipes out the hormonal system in males. Their testosterone level plunges. The sperm count plunges, and the can't get it up, erectile dysfunction (ED). They become impotent sissies. This is the reason vegan males become submissive to females and become homosexual. Sorry women are not off the hook eaither: Vegan Females Become Infertile The vegan diet has a devastating effect on the hormones in the female as well. She soon looses her sex drive and fails to achieve an orgasm. She may drift into a lesbian relationship thinking her lack of arousal indicates she is gay when in reality it was caused by the deficient vegan diet Other things this sites states: (1) God hates vegetarians and will punish them severely; (2) If you do not hate vegetarians, God will hate you too; (3) If you do not eat meat you will die within weeks (therefore all vegetarians are liars and eat meat when no one is looking.) Note: This guy is serious; it is not a paraody site or anything. Thinking about it, that site's host would likely view this site as the most evil possible site there could be (not eating meat is evil and exercise is evil.) What is sad is this guy has a ministry and there are probably a lot of people that believe and follow him.
  20. Bigbwii, I noticed many in the thread asking where is the "protein." I wanted to share this: I did this analysis a while back: Food Calories Protein Protein Calories % Of Calories Fat Lemons 61 2 8 13.11% Peaches 66 2 8 12.12% Cherries 77 2 8 10.39% Oranges 81 2 8 9.88% Watermelon 46 1 4 8.70% Graqpefruit 97 2 8 8.25% Strawberries 49 1 4 8.16% Grapes 62 1 4 6.45% Banana 200 2 8 4.00% Apple 65 0 0 0.00% 8.11% Sorry it did not parse well. The point is that most common fruit has between 5 to 15% of its calories from protein. Apple is only common fruit that I found to have no measurable protein. So eating only fruit would easily satisfy macronutrient protein needs.
  21. Thanks. I have a new FID bench that has about five angles. On Chest days, I do not go over the one around 60 degrees, mostly doing the 45 degree setting and flat angle. On shoulder days, I do the angles around 75 and nearly 90. I am mainly working with dumbbells now. I will get squat station to go around my bench and incorporate barbell stuff again, later. What I like about dumbbells is, at first heavy weight on them took effort to set-up and move (carry to bench and hold as I sat back, etc.) Now walking around and handling the weight is getting much easier, so I am likely improving stabilizing muscles as part of the set-up. I like that by-product benefit. I will push myself harder on incline bench presses and see how it goes. I was just confused because while feeling my chest as I did one hand press, it just did not seem as my upper chest was doing much (felt the outer middle of chest doing the work.)
  22. I was using less weight when feeling to see what part was flexing but more weight on actual exercise. So my format seemed okay. I am doing proper form?
  23. My old blender does not seem to strain, with about 5 or 6 dark green leaves (chard, kale etc.) but it is gritty and stringy. I run it about 1 to 2 minutes. How long does the Vitamix take to make it as smooth, as you describe?
  24. Incline bench press is supposed to be for upper chest, right? It just do not seem as it does my upper chest. For example, I was doing incline presses, with dumbbells, yesterday. I did a one handed dumbbell press, so that I could feel my chest muscle with my other hand, to feel what part of the chest it was most working. I did not feel much flexing in my upper chest. I felt a lot in the middle side part but not upper part. Am I doing it wrong? Here is what I do: For dumbbell press I start wide (forearms vertical) and as I push up, I push hands toward each other (both forearms tilting inside toward each other), coming together at top. Then I come back down, getting wider (forearms going back to vertical), until I can go down no more, hold that position a second then repeat.
  25. Do you think this would be powerful enough: --Cuisinart SmartPower Premier Blender A wise choice, the Smart Power blender features a powerful 600-watt motor, 50-oz. glass jar, ice crush and pulse buttons plus count-up timer with continuous beep after 5 minutes of blending time. Cast metal and brushed stainless design. Includes instructions and recipe booklet.-- 600 watts would be about 0.80 horsepower so it is about half the power of the Vitamax 4500, which has a 2 horsepower motor.) I can get the Cuisinart one for $100 at a local store where I have a $65 gift certificate. The Vitamix will be $350. What do you think? Thanks.
