Cellar Yeti
I would like to treat myself to a doughnut. Does anyone know of anywhere in San Diego I can treat myself to a nice old fashioned glazed doughnut and a cup of coffee? "I'd like a doughnut and a coffee please, hold the cruelty" :]
vegimator
Most whole foods make their own vegan doughnuts now and they're not bad.

Cellar Yeti
Mhm. They had two types but were out of the other, I got glazed. And a cup of coffee with coconut creamer.
lobsteriffic
Was it a cake doughnut or a yeasted one? I seem to always find cake doughnuts, but I'd love a yeasted one. I could make my own, but I hate deep-frying at home.

lobsteriffic
I don't find it difficult at all and I always use a candy thermometer.I mostly hate it because it really reminds me just how unhealthy deep fried stuff is when you have to look at all of that oil and what not (so gross!). When I just eat one thing at a restaurant or whatever, I can ignore that.
Cellar Yeti
Oh, they weren't fried. I can't eat fried things, it hurts my stomach. I don't think anything made at Whole Foods is deep fried.

lobsteriffic
If they weren't fried than it was probably a cake doughnut.
Cellar Yeti
I didn't spend too much time analyzing it, I noticed they weren't fried so I paid for it and stuffed it into my face.
lobsteriffic
Oh I didn't say you did spend time analyzing it. Sorry. I was just asking about cake vs. yeasted because I haven't had a yeasted doughnut since I went vegan and if Whole Foods sold them, I would go there and buy one. Didn't mean to hijack. Cellar Yeti
We also have a parking garage no one knows about. So I can sit in the back of my creepy rape van and eat donuts while I surf the web.

chrisjs
Hmm, I haven't seen vegan storemade donuts in Whole Foods, but I haven't been there in a few months. Are they relatively new or perhaps regional?
Cellar Yeti
Probably regional. Our Whole Foods has a pitiful buffet. Pretty much no Vegan food, ever. Back in Connecticut pastries are scarce but the buffet is GINORMOUS.
lobsteriffic
The one in Campbell, CA has them in the bakery section where the individual douhnuts and cookies and stuff are, and you take how many you want and put them in a bag yourself.

Back in Connecticut pastries are scarce but the buffet is GINORMOUS.Ah yeah, around here there's a decent buffet selection of vegan items plus a good amount of Indian dishes that are often vegan as well. It's frustrating as hell when they have nearly-vegan items that have some ingredient (such as honey) than could easily not be in there. I strongly doubt there are non-vegs out there who'd look at it and say pass it up because it didn't contain honey. Though the alternative to honey is "sugar" the fattening boogeyman.
