Hello folks. I am Courtney, a new member to the boards! I got invited by Robert, who I ran into on another vegan message board. Only 4 days ago I made the decision to change my lifestyle and go vegan. I am an assistant manager at a Mcdonald's here in Fargo and I was curious about a book I had heard about called "Fast Food Nation." So I bought the book to read it. Well what I read not only turned me off of fast food, but off from meat products in general. Even the one time I tried to eat meat after reading it, I vomited. I just can't do it anymore! So, I decided to become vegan. Not only will being vegan make the nevironment a better place for both humans and animals al…

Hola! Thanks for having such great forums! I live in Portland, Oregon, usa - stop by & visit if you are in the area! By the way, how many folks here are from Oregon, Washington or BC? I'd love to meet folks from here in person! About me: 28yo, vegan since 14 - my partner & 3 kids (ages 7,4,2) all vegan - the kids since before birth. We lean towards organic, natural &/or raw foods. I love to travel, explore new places & meet new folks. I enjoy being outdoors & would love doing more outdoor sports: hiking, mtn. biking, skiing, snowshowing, canoeing, rafting, kayaking, rock-climbing and similar. I'm also into most everything related to self-…

Hey everybody, I just joined the this board today and i thought i'd be nice to introduce myself My name is Sacco, i'm a 22 yr old guy fom Holland. I like music (hardcore, metalcore, metal and sometimes hiphop),philosophy, art, BMX and lots of other stuff. My friends call me Rae. I've been a vegetarian since December of 2003, and a vegan since September of 2004. I went veg at the advice of my surgeon (I was convalescing from a nasty back injury, and had gained weight due to my inability to walk and my horrible diet). It worked for a while, but once my diet became heavy with seafood, I gained more weight. Long story short, I got fed up and went vegan. The change in my diet allowed me to drop a large amount of weight. Once I was able to be more active, I ended up losing a total of 50 lbs. I still have a long way to go. I'm convinced that going vegan also aided in my recovery. While I still suffer from back pain no…

Hi all, I broke the rules and posted a question before introducing myself. Anyway, like many of you (I'm guessing), I discovered this site while searching for vegan fitness resources. I've been vegan for around three years and vegetarian for around nine. I've always been fit, but a little while ago I decided to start getting serious about eating a more complete diet and building muscle. I don't believe in proselytizing to non-vegans about what animals go through, but I do believe that setting an example with a healthy physique is almost the responsibility of all vegans and can be far more powerful in terms of getting others to take a closer look at the lifesty…

I have checked out the page before on multiple occasions and find people to be very insightful and intelligent. I have been a vegan for a little over a year, have had a few slips(not eating meat or eggs or anything, but had cheese a few times). Before that I began a weight loss bodybuilding plan but after going vegan the weight loss went into high gear and I lost 70 lbs in about 4 months. I am in the best shape of my life(not because I'm the most cut) because I eat the best ever, and even though I was athletic and worked out alot in my late teens, I never did as much cardio as I do now. I currently weigh about 195, am 6"2. I have about 10-15lbs of extra fat I'd lik…

Hello. I am interested in increasing my strength. I have done weight training before and have recently-ish started again. I haven't done any weight training for a couple of weeks because my right shoulder and arm are painful. I will give it a go at the weekend if my arm is all right. It is a bit better than it was a few days ago. I am quite experienced in the old fitness lark but I don't know everything. I hope that I can find some answers here. I'm not sure what the questions are, though, so it might be difficult getting answers. I have been censored and ridiculed on various forums because of my strange sense of humuor. I admit that I sometimes get carried…

Hi, I have talked to a few of you already on myspace. I"m a raw vegan. I'd love to get more into body building. I'd consider being a fitness model if I found the secret to getting my body to a low enough body fat percentage. I'm 5'11 around 143. I'm just getting into running and would love to find myself doing an adventure race some time this year. Running, biking, kayaking, swimming, rock climbing, and anything else under the sun someone can teach me. ) I hope you're all doing fantastic. I hope we get a chance to talk more. Take care Brookie- Go veggie power! )

So, I just joined because I want to (NEED to) get in shape. I went vegan for ethical reasons about 3 years ago. I'm kind of a junk food vegan with a mean sweet tooth. I have actually gained 25 lbs since going vegan! I do love to exercise, especially weight training but I have a young son, which makes it hard to get to the gym. But today I joined the Y and they offer childcare so no more excuses! And can I say I am extremely impressed with the emoticon selection!

Hi. I just found this site and joined up. First, a little history. I am a female, age 53. I have been lifting for about 12 years. I just do it for health and because I love it. I would like to see more definition though. I was a vegan some 6 years ago and then gave it up out of boredom with the food. I should have stuck with it!! I am slowly transitioning back to it. I have already cut out all meat and eggs but still do a little dairy but precious little. I am slowly cutting out the bad stuff. Even when I was eating meat and dairy, I would always try to eat organic and I never have been a fast food freak nor am I big on processed foods. I have a terrible time with si…

Hello Everyone, My name is Will, I am 30 years old, and I live in Canada. I have been a raw food vegan for 4 years, and I love this lifestyle. I chose the nick name "Raw Ambition" because it was the title of an article done of me and my lifestyle in the city newspaper, July of 2003. I live in a city of very few vegans, none of which I know like to train, so it is very nice to find somewhere where I can discuss my two favorite activities (Raw and Fitness)

Howdy, My names Kyle and I currently work for The Student Conservation Association (www.thesca.org) out in the Mojave desert, socal. We restore habitat damaged by illegal off-road vehicle use. We work from the field which requires camping for 8-10 days at a time. Being vegetarian was prompted by the fact that we couldnt possibly eat meat while in the field (no fridges in the middle of the desert). After the first hitch I realized that it would be really easy to do and have a positive enviromental impact. I was already working to help out so why let my eating habits be counter-productive? Recent interest in fitness has prompted my reading this and other forums and I d…

I found you on a Google search yesterday and I'm already hooked! Funny how motivating it can be, just having a group of similar minded individuals together. I am a sportsminded 43 yearold father of 2. Our family has been vegetarian for 2 years and counting. I have been moving towards Vegan over the last year. (My diet is vegan, but I still must transition my wardrobe, wallet etc....) I have always been an animal lover, but it somehow took me until I was 40 to fully realize the consequences of my actions. Our society is so spoiled, so easy......... the meat is just there in the restaurant or at the supermarket fully prepared. When I finally "woke up" and realized wher…

Hey all, just wanted to introduce myself. I used to be a vegetarian, developed anorexia at a certain point (nothing to do with vegetarianism by the way), and then in recovery I got interested in bodybuilding. I mistakenly thought that eating meat was the only way to put on muscle mass, but this site has opened my eyes quite a bit! I had no problem being vegetarian, but coming back to it I now feel that it is not enough, and so I am determined to become vegan. My question is, are there any Canadians on this board? I would just appreciate any info on good vegan stores in Toronto, as I am new to veganism and most supermarkets do not carry an acceptable range of a…

My name is Sarah. I certainly don't look like someone that should be part of any sort of bodybuilding forum...yet. Over the last few years I've gotten very out of shape. Right now I'm 5'3" and 149 lbs. yuck. I'm a little bit scared about posting on a vegan forum. For people that choose a compassionate lifestyle because of their respect for life, the vegans I've found on the internet sure do seem to come off mean in my experience. Here's the weird part of my even being here. I'm not vegan right now. I'm working on it though. I'm really bucking convention among everyone I know by even considering it. I only know one vegan. I became lactose intolerant a few …

So I guess I'm supposed to tell a little about myself... I'm 43 years old, been vegetarian for about a year now, and just began a serious weight training program about 5 weeks ago. I'm came here because I wanted to pick up some training tips and advice since I'm pretty much going it alone. I have lifted in the past, but never really stuck with it. I have a new attitude, new body (lost 150 lbs) and have been active and doing a lot of cardio and sculpt type work, along with yoga, for the past 3-1/2 years. I tend to build muscle relatively easily - my goals are to shape and define rather than simply build bulk. I am also working on strength, as my bulk belies my str…

Hi guys! I'm a newer vegan (been a vegan for a little less than a year now and a vegetarian about 2 years before that). Anyway, I just started lifting about two months ago and I love it! I came on here earlier tonight to find out what vegan protein shakes are the best and bought 2 lbs of hemp protein and 2 lbs of pea protein. Anyway, I hope to learn some more things on here. This is a very interesting forum.
