  1. When my team was at school, we would meet up at the coffeeshop on campus before pratice and a professor came up to us professors- bikes shouldn't be in the coffeshop teammate- why? professor - they just aern't teamate (who happens to be a philosphy major and hates logical fallacies such as circular reasoning) - I'm sorry could you give me a logical explanation professor - bikes are dirty teammate- there just as dirty as shoes (at this point a campus police tells us to get out bikes out of there...mainly just so he didn;t have to deal with the whining professors probably)
  2. Now that school has started up we'll see how I'm able to keep this up. I've been on the green cleanse since sunday night and so far its been going good. Nothing but green smoothies and raw green soups, no fats nuts or seeds (or vega!). I haven't felt hungry or deprived or had any food cravings the only tiny thing is that I have urges to bite into a pear or apple instead of putting it into a blender, but I just have to mentally check myself momentarily and then everthings good. my meal lay out doesn't look that interesting but today it pretty much looked like this 9:30- green smoothie 12:40- green smoothie 4- 20 oz green juice 5-blended frozen bananna with water 1 hour easy run 6;20- green smoothie 7:40- raw green soup and probably at 9:30 I'll pureee two frozen persimmons for dessert and put some spirulina on them to make it green mmm Taking it easy to recover from the rough 30K on sunday, monday 6 miles bike, tuesday 20 minutes swim, wednesday 20 minute jog, and today I finally got out and did a 1 hr light run. I have a little twinge of pain in my left butt when I run and sometimes just when I move it wierd. I also have a bruise over there so I think Im gonna go to the trainer tomorrow and see if I injurged something during the 30K or if it is just from the bruise. There's a 50m bike race next weekend that I think some of the guys from the cycling team are doing..well see about that, my thought is to wait until the colllegiete races come around/ I get a little faster but on the other hand it might be good for me to get out there and get my butt kicked OFFICIALLY before I start nearing the marathon taper period.
  3. Results from Sunday's 30K Man on man, this was probably physically the hardest race I have done yet, it was nothing but hills up and down. up and down. check out this quote from this article written about it "In this 18.6-mile race, there was not a single easy stretch of running. If you weren’t climbing up one monstrous hill after another, you were falling off the cliff down the other side. Toss in a troublesome, blustery wind and some unseasonably warm conditions and the ARA 30-K is a race that will be talked about (and grow in legendary status) for years and years to come." http://www.runtex.com/web/1-1162.asp click above for full text, although it also has this quote in it as well. Just how hard was it? Perhaps third-place finisher Michelle Maton summed it up best when she said afterward: "The marathon {AT&T Austin Marathon on February 17th} will seem easy compared with this race." ANYWAY, I think I did pretty allright considering I haven't done much hill training at all (totally flat at home where I was for the past 3 weeks) and had been doing hard cycling for the previous 4 days with no real break. I got 5/11 in my age group and 101/705 overall with a time of 2:33:28 with a average pace of 8:13 but I totally slowed waaaaaayy down towards the ends espeically with some of the steep hills I felt like I was nearly crawling up them I was running so slow. My super goal was to place in my age group and while I was only a minute way from 4th the 3rd place was done in 2:14:47, over 15 minutes faster- yikes! I was paceing with the woman who was the overall female master winner in the beginning/middle but of course she pulled ahead of me after a few hill and ended up with a time of 2:26:42. After I'm recovered I plan on def. working on alot more hills, but I feel that the marathon while it may be longer is going to be a way easier course.
  4. I'd love to see some pictures when you have the time.
  5. neither, just body-check people randomly....works the ...eerrr core muscles. Plus you could make it like a message thing and like body-check people in the grocery store when they pick up a oscar meyer hot dog 6-pack. "what the hell bro" "Sorry Its a disease, I unconsciously body check people when they are about to eat bad food" and then hand them an OA pamplet and a bananna?
  6. its a sport specific pancake recipe in "The Thrive Diet", basically amaranth, buckwheat and banannas and some other stuff. details on the 30K coming soon.
  7. you should incorporate some more body-checking into your non-running training. I hear that the really progressive physiotherapist recommed it.
  8. 8:40- performance pancakes 5 x 15 minute crit simulation 11:30- recovery pudding 1- Green Smoothie with Spinach, frozen acai, frozen bananna, 1 Serving Berry Vega 3:30- Large Salad w/3 cups baby greens, turnip, cabbage, carrots, celery, guacamole, 6:30- 6 dates, 1 apple, 1 orange, 2 kiwis, 1 pear I've got a super hilly 30K race tomorrow morning, so I carb-loaded on fruit again tonight. Hopefully I can get to bed reasonably soon and tear it up (and not my knee) sunday morning! The Crits were fun but man am I slooooooooww compared to most of the other guys ,for now... .... Starting tomorrow night I'll be doing a week long raw food green cleanse where I am going to try to be as strict as possible and only eat green smoothies and other blended green things (raw green soups, blended salads etc), sea vegetables and fresh fruit. I just got back from the store with tons of produce, I'm excited about it and hope I'm able to keep up during the first week of the new semester. (starts monday-ack!)
  9. (from yesterday) 9:50- performance pancakes - 30m Recovery Ride 1-2 energy bars 2:45- Smoothie w/1 serving berry vega, collard greens, frozen bananna, frozen acai 6:20- quinoa, sprouted spelt pizza w/ spinach and vegan gourmet, chia pudding (from veg. food van) 8- pear 9:40- pear, arame w/lime and hemp oil My cycling team also praticed bumping and tight cornering yesterday which was fun, feeling alot more comfortable on my road bike/clip in now. I think I'm swearing off the vegan cheese for good now. I don't really miss cheese at all so I nenver buy it myself (not to mention its not that good for you) but occcasionally get it on a pizza at this local veg food van. I'm gonna start doing promo work for them on campus and so me and the owner were talking and he gave me all the food for free, so it wasn't a total loss but I def. like it better without the vegan cheese and I always feel kinda dirty or somehting after eating it. here's a picture of me trying to look tough yesterday during out team "photoshoot" note the rubber bands holding up the sleeves ...so hard haha http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sctm/v161/204/55/57801492/n57801492_30915476_3602.jpg http://photos-c.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v166/204/55/57801492/n57801492_30915466_3990.jpg
  10. 8:30- performance pancakes - 90m Bike Ride, training with cycling team ate 2 homemade energry bars,6 oz of homemade energy gel, and coconut water throughout 5- 1 bananna 5:40- recovery pudding 6:40- 1 Serving Berry Vega in water 7:50- dinner at macrobiotic restaurant w/ White Miso, Vegetable, Wakame soup + Medium & Short Brown Rice with Pepitas+ Kidney w/ Suncheese+ Mushrooms, Carrots, Onions & Guacamole Tacos (2) + Steamed Greens+ 2 plates of salad + pickeled beets It was mighty cold today on the ride, but I had gone out yesterday and gotten some cold gear (toe wind breaks, base layer, ear wrap thing, full finger gloves) and that helped alot. I am by far and far the leasnt experienced guy on the team and man does it show! -yesssh anyway the ride was supposed to be 105, but the pack-leaders called the sweeper SAG car (which was basically the SAG for me and one other guy who were waaaaaaayyy behind them) and said the road they were on sucked majorly and they packed it up, so I did as they recommened and just stick my bike in the car from a certain point. While I really wanted to get to a full century that was still the longest I have ever ridden ( second being a 70 or 65m ride during my oregan bike tour last summer) So i was pleased. jeez need to get to bed now!
  11. I acutually freaking love Lake Placid (movie) Oliver Platt is glorious in it.
  12. I just checked and VV is pretty much the same dates as my grandparents 50 anniversary/ mini-family reunion at Lake Placid..so thats a no go..mabye next year? heh
  13. 9:45- 1 pear 11:45- (At Michelle and Ed's brunch potluck!)- lots of pineapple, grapes, strawberries, 2 slices spelt bananna bread, 2 small pumpkin waffles with maple syrup 4:30- 3 dates, lil bit coconut butter warm up, 5K tempo run (20:12) 6- bananna, handful dulse 7- 1/2 serving berry Vega in water, black-eyed peas, cabbage, brown rice 10- small bowl of "moroccan sweet potatoes and vegetables, Large salad w/ 3 cups mixed greens, green beans, celery, brocolli, + 1 apple I was pleased with my 5K time, knocked off 20 seconds or so from last week, which was 45 seconds faster than previous week! I was running a route that I hadn't done before in a neighborhood that wasn't my own and I slowed down a couple times and even stopped once completly to makes sure I was still going the right way, so otherwise I'm sure it woulda been under 20 minutes. Meeting Ed and Michelle in person was fun and was unfortunate that we didn't get to hang out more, but I am very pumped about going back to austin to start my cycling teams winter training camp, jeez gotta get back to packing!!!!
  14. they had it at Whole Foods at the beginning of the semester, but like only one flavor and I didn't want any them, but now that I acutally wanna try some its nowhere to be found.
  15. it was awesome to meet you guys in person! I just remembered that I have March 20-23 off for easter (catholic school things haha) , so that would allow me more free time than just a weekend to come back from school (mabye...... yeash) but yea just keep tossing dates around and well see.
  16. I took one free class of bikram last fall and loved it. There are two bikram studios in Austin but they are both about 20ish minutes away from me and I don't have the time/want to drive (not to mention trying to reduce my car usage) to do that on a regualr basis plus as said before it is pretty darn pricey. BUT they both offer the first month for like 28 dollars? or something. So mabye if I have alot of free time I'll do it at one and then do it at the other, but I can't see it happening this semester, mabye if i stay in austin over the summer.
  17. haha heavens no, I just saw it on their website a few weeks ago and just for giggles looked to see how much it would be to overnight the pumpkin ice cream pie, since the only other option was to pick it up at their factory in chicago I think.
  18. 10:45- 1 pear 1- Large salad w/ 3 cups mixed greens, sweet potato, carrots, beets, sunflower seeds, black seasme seeds 4- Extra thick smoothie/ soft serve with 2 frozen bannas, 1/2 cup frozen blueberries, 1/2 cup frozen strawberries, 1 serving berry Vega, LOTS of unsweetned soymilk 6:40- ezekiel spaghetti and wheatballs, steamed greens I haven't had soymilk in a long time and tonight I remembered why.... GAAAAASSSS and lots of it. hehe Didn't end up doing any pilates just rode my bike alongside my gf as she jogged as my "recovery ride", but tomorrow may try to get in 5k tempo run if im recovered enough. I'm meeting ed and michelle at a new years potluck brunch tomorrow and am pumped about it!
  19. I haven't really had any major issues but during the 20K I did in the beginning of december it was acting up and was sore for about a week afterwards, i.e. it hurt to lift my leg up to put my socks on in the morning for a couple of days. I went to my school's trainer they did some ice/heat and STEM for about a week afterwards and that seemed to of make most of it go away. Occasionally it still acts up a little bit but doesn't really bother/impair me like it did during that race/week. No problem there were some leftovers so what is it like 75$ to overnight to maryland? At least thats how much temptation ice cream was charging to overnight one of their pumpkin ice cream pies from chicago to texas hehe.
  20. if they tell you to stop running but you liked body-checking stuff you could take up hockey
  21. 7:45 - homemade energy bar - 20m long run marathon training (2:45) slurrped on thrive diet energy gel througout 11:36- recovery pudding, 12:45- Smoothie w 1 serving berry vega, frozen bananna, frozen strawberries, romaine lettuce 5:00 - 2 bowls of leftover "Moroccan sweet potatoes and vegetables" 7:15- Large salad from restaurant 8:15- 2 clementimes 10- 2 1/2 slices bannana bread The long run felt pretty good and I didn't have mucy knee of hip flexor problems at all. Gonna take it easy today, might do some pilates later. My mom requested that I make the spagetti and wheatballs for dinner again ...haha so thats a good sign.
  22. 10:25- 1 pear, 2 clementimes Light ride about 30 minutes 12:50- Green Smoothie with Spinach, 1 serving natural Vega, pumpkin seeds, orange, frozen bananna 4:00- Medium salad (leftover from dinner last night) + rooibos tea 6:45- 2 apples, cranberries, 1/2 pomegranate, 2 dates, bowl of strawberries 8:45- peppermint tea carb-loading on fruit again for my long run tomorrow. everyone else at dinner tried one of the raw cranberries I was eating and gagged on how sour it was..hehehe wimps. beat grandapa at chess tonight
  23. So I got the results back from the blood work I got done last week. (I had fasted that morning.) There still pretty darn close to the last time I got blood work 2 years ago when I was vegetarian and sorta assumed that they would be better now that I'm vegan and now consider myself an "athlete", but it doesn't seem to waver that much (but my LDL did go up a few..eck) The results also had alot of other results as well, but I was in the normal range for everthing except my while blood count which was a little low (2.9....4.0-10.5 is normal at least on the sheet) and the sheet says this is either because thats the way my body likes to keep it or the cause of some viral infection..but i feel great and haven't been sick. I forgot to get my iron levels measured but the woman who drew my blood said that they would tell me if I was anemic (which I knew I wasn't because I've donated blood last month...and feel fine) but I still was interested. 12/19/2007- Vegan (the "normal" ranges listed on my sheet is in brackets) Total Cholestoral- 134 (100-199 ) HDL (good type)- 55 (40-59) LDL (Bad Type) - 67 (0-99) Triglycerides -60 (0-149) VLDL Cholesterol- 12 (5-40) 7/19/2005 - vegetarian Total Cholestoral- 128. HDL- 52. LDL - 61. triglyceride- 74
  24. No I haven't. I was acutally looking at a few training books and thinking I should get one, but I'll check those out, thanks!
