I'm taking a break from my studying; I've been doing it all night! I'm feeling really frustrated today because it seems like graduation is SOOOO far off. I took some time off/only went part time for the last 2 years, and so now instead of being in my senior year of college, I'm only a junior I don't exactly regret the path I took, because I had a lot of good life experiences (and bad) and came back to school more dedicated than ever. But it's so discouraging looking at my transcripts and my graduation requirements and seeing how much I still have to do! What's especially frustrating is the amount of difficulty I've had getting the classes I need...there is a nutrition …

Well, it's official, Topher is on his way to Oregon! As many of you have read from other threads, Topher was having a bit of a tough time deciding what to do this year as far as school, work, place of residence, etc. He finally decided he would move out to Oregon to live some of the dreams he's had for years and to reach some of the new goals he has set for himself. His actual driving journey across the US began this morning from Pennsylvania and I just received a message from him on my phone while I was napping, informing me he is now in Illinois and still moving along. He expects to be here in a couple of days. I'll keep you all updated on his progress as he's …

This can only continue with your help. Dozens of generous donors have contributed $8,712.50 so far. Okay, people, Orlando Bloom isnt a vegetarian. How disappointing. I thought he was part of the human race that had an evolved sense of compassion. I could have sworn that I had heard him describe himself as a vegetarian in an interview. I was flipping channels and I came to the Oprah show and it showed him joyously feasting on a hamburger and he described it as "Good food that we all need once in a while." And, then, he gave oprah a gift from the "Leather Shop" - a gift of a leather dog leash. In other words, the dead flesh of animal wrapped around the neck of another animal. How disappointing. I am disappointed not because he is a celebrity, by the way. I woul…

Hey everybody, Wondering if anyone has had a good experience purchasing leather free shoes either via the internet or mail order. A reference helps with this because ordering clothes sight unseen always carries the risk of poor measurements, quality etc. Thanks!

Hi guys, Monica Brant has received an email from a management company looking for a vegetarian fitness person (male or female). Please find the details of the request (and email address) if you are interested. "On another note, I recently received an email from a management company that is looking for a particularly nice looking, fitness person, male or female- only has to be a vegetarian. Of course I enjoy my buffalo and steaks too much to give those up so I am out of the picture! Apparently the project has recently received funding for a documentary film about vegetarian lifestyles and the effects of such a lifestyle on the body and the environment. If you feel yo…

"The progressive animal rights organization has a ruthless approach for getting coverage in the mass media - with enviable results." Check out this AlterNet article about PETA's media-savvy activism. Embroiling, heavy-handed and insightful, it certainly made me see the organization in a new light. Despite any dispute over tactics, the sheer number of responses to the article is a testament that PETA must be doing something right. "PETA goes after places, people, events and ideas of social meaning and finds a way to seize the headlines - or create its own. It will do whatever it takes to expose people to its point of view. When PETA asks an agricultural town to change …

This is ridiculous. http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/africa/09/20/ethiopia.lions.ap/index.html To summarize: "Lions attack and eat humans in areas where their wild prey has been reduced by over-hunting, deforestation and population growth. Older lions also become man-eaters because humans are a far easier prey than wildlife. "Killing these lions would be the only way to rescue the residents in the area and prevent other casualties," the police statement added." Ok - so humans killed the lion's prey and decimated their habitat - so now it's time to kill the lions???? What is wrong with this world!!!! Did it not occur to ANYBODY that the humans caused this problem, and mo…

I know college in the USA is verry expensive, so it must not be affordable for everybody. Does anyone know what percentage of the population has a college degree in the USA? Also, what percentage of youre income do you pay as taxes? In the Netherlands it is about 50%, which I think is verry much.

Just back from Charlottesville! What a great day we had. Josie and I spent the day talking to folks about vegan bodybuilding and vegan fitness. We handed out tons of flyers, business cards, "why vegan" brochures and Vega supliments. Thanks to Rob for hooking us up with so much cool stuff! I was pleasantly surprised to meet Mike aka "petabodybuilder" who recently joined the board. He had a table set up right next to ours where he was doing free bodyfat testing and offering exercise and nutrition advice! Way to go Mike!!! Hopefully we will see more of Mike on the board, it's not often you meet a competetive vegan bodybuilder/ultramarathoner. Oh, and he's super nic…

There are so many forums to choose from, I didn't know which one to add these to, so I just picked here! I hope that's okay! Anyway, I chatted with a few people about yoga practice when I joined, so I figured that I'd share these pictures of me, which were taken yesterday by an awesome photographer (nsoroma79.com). I love the way they came out, and had only a vague idea that my back looked that good. Hahaha. http://www.ilikeitsalty.com/storage/nicole/loryoga01.jpg http://www.ilikeitsalty.com/storage/nicole/loryoga02.jpg http://www.ilikeitsalty.com/storage/nicole/loryoga03.jpg http://www.ilikeitsalty.com/storage/nicole/loryoga04.jpg http://www.ilikeitsalty.com…

Tofu from most restaurants: I can’t believe how bad the tofu is at most restaurants, even paces that specialize in veg food. They just heat it up, to seasoning or anything. Its not even really cooked, just warmed up. I could see why people would hate tofu; if that was the only way they had tried it. It is so tasteless and squishy, like a cube of warm snot. Blah. I also don’t like most women’s health mags. It seems like all they do is indorse hair care products and work out clothing. And the only exercise the talk about is walking, or maybe… maybe yoga.

"Diet & Health - Scientific Perspectives" by Prof. W. Veith. Great book about nutrition. Veith is a biologist from South Africa. He advocates a plant based whole food diet for optimum health. I like the book because he explains the benefits scientifically, which gives you good arguments. What i don't like is that he quotes results of animal experiments He is not vegan, as he is not against honey, nor an animal rights advocate, but that is not only bad. No one can say he's biased because of animal rights issues, he is purely scientific. I have the 1999 edition, don't know if there are updates by now or new books by him... maybe i should check that out

I was just wondering what everyone's social groups looked like? Aside from Robert, all of my friends are not only not vegan, not veg, they're practically anti-veggy. Generally, I deal with this by just avoid all animal/food topics, and tuning out when they go off about the 'yumminess' of meat (which they seem to do just to try to get a rise out of me) I think part of the problem is that when I do that, just tune them out, they don't realize they're actually upsetting me, and think we're all just joking around. Is there a better way to deal with this? I'm specifically thinking of 3 of my friends, and they really are the nearest dearest people to my heard...aside from thi…
