Troy
Gotta love the Advanced Entry Tool... I also added this to the 1st post of the Protein powder comparative amino acid analysis sticky thread. Soy and Gemma look like the only complete proteins, Gemma coming out on top once again. Fallen_Horse
Great work Troy, very helpful! (although personally I don't think anything should be called a 'protein powder' if it's less than 50% protein :S )

Im Your Man
Where do you find that "Advanced Entry Tool" ? Because with the regular search fonction, I don,t find anythin such as whey protein isolate, or those vegan proteins you showed. Howcome soy+buckwheat Procore Advance amino acids score is inferior to soy alone ?

Howcome soy+buckwheat Procore Advance amino acids score is inferior to soy alone ? Because soy is higher in lysine than most grains and equal to or higher in methionine+cystein per gram than pretty much any grain, so grains often only serve make it "less complete." Because with the regular search fonction, I don,t find anythin such as whey protein isolate, or those vegan proteins you showed. Once you are a member of ND you can set up your own custom entries. Until recently you could only enter basic nutritional profiles of foods... now you can enter amino acid profiles, fatty acid profiles, etc. I simply entered the data in and it saved to my account. It's kinda fun too because I can mix and match the "TrueProtein" proteins to come up with different amino acid ratios and ND figures out the amino acid score with the click of a button. Howcome soy+buckwheat Procore Advance amino acids score is inferior to soy alone ? So the trend of mixing different sources of vegan proteins to make more complete protein such as legumes+grains is not only useless but may be counter productive ? Troy
I'm Your Man, I think you're reading too much into it, check this out for further explanation... http://blog.nutritiondata.com/ndblog/2008/06/on-beans-rice-a.html
Im Your Man
wow thank you for this link, very interesting. I think I understand why 2 incomplete proteins combined together don't necessarily make a perfect amino acid score even if it's not 100% clear yet in my mind. Anyway, I've never been a fan of this protein combining thing, when I was mixing for instance bread and beans it was more for the fullness factor and taste factor. Concerning the food combining rules that extends to protein combinations, I've read it is better not to mix 2 or more different proteins sources together because each one requires a different timing of digestion. Like mixing soy+hemp+dulse... But mixing rice with beans could be ok because they're more in the carbs than the proteins category. What we can do though if we don't want a mono meal of protein is to mix many foods from the same kind of proteins, for instance eating a variety of nuts together like almonds, peanuts and walnuts at the sametime. Fallen_Horse
Troy, is there any way for you to 'share' the custom food with us? I would love to have Gemma in my ND profile, but I don't really want to go through adding it.
Troy
I don't think so, but I could email Monica and see if she could add my entries to the main database... I'll ask her and get back to you...
