Ducati
It seems that this term is thrown around a lot. I thought it would be fun to list all the foods that someone doesn't not call a superfood. I looked up dozens of different foods, and the only one I found that is not called a super food by someone is iceberg lettuce. Can you name some whole foods that are not called super foods by someone?

Ducati
Yes, I am trying to find foods that are NOT considered super foods. I am trying to show that almost any whole food is considered a super food.

Marcina
It's ok Zack. I detected your sarcasm What about potatoes? I was reading an article about "superfoods" at work yesterday in a magazine and they listed potatoes. I was like "really? Potatoes?" Potatoes aren't really that super. Except sweet potatoes maybe. beforewisdom
I first read the term "Super Foods" in the 80s. It is a marketing term. There are foods with some more nutrition that others, but if you learn proper nutrition you should be able to get scads of good stuff with what is cheaply available, especially if you live in a metropolitan area. People are laughing at this term, but so many people on this forum believe in highly unsubstantiated similar claims. The advertising copy on the back of health food store products is not a substitute for learning. Neither are books by people without professional credentials. Unfortunately, people who eat vegan diets for health/fitness reasons tend to have an affinity for believing health food marketing crap. We have our share of narcissism. We love the idea of a "super food" or a magic diet.

Fjodo
Never heard about cedar nuts being a super food, but garlic is called one especially in the bodybuilding scene. (At least in Germany) Corn?Wheat?Grass?Meat? (Really, never heard of anyone calling ducks a super food)Chestnuts?Celery?Sunflower oil?Cucumbers?Beer?Peanuts? xjohanx
Wheat?Grass? Super foods is a joke and most of the time the products aren't even as nutritious as the claims or they just write stuff about the products that have no relevance to health at all. "the chinese have been eating blabla for 8000 years". The term really bums me out.

Or brewer's yeast which is just a byproduct of beer. But when we think superfoods are labelled like this just because of some of their components, like the polyphenols in red wine, the vitamin C in citrus fruits, etc. In my opinion there are no 'superfoods', like said before it is only for marketing. Food (or 'superfood'...) allows the body to function normally/optimally, while junk food (there's a reason why it is always called junk food and never only 'food') don't and the body is always in a healing process. And supplements are deficient food which need to be supplemented with whole foods !
