Patrick
Hello guys, what do you think of this article? http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2008/3/6/weston-a-price-foundation-to-fda-soy-is-no-health-food.aspx Patrick
tuc
Dr. Mercola was the one who suggested that soy makes you gay and it'll also make your boobs grow (but only if you're man, since girls do not eat it to get their boobs bigger). Weston A. Price foundation gets a large proportion of its funding from meat industry. You can check it just by looking at their web site. Just count 1 + 1 ... http://www.westonaprice.org/ (Gold Sponsors...) I think it's best not to listen to the meat industry's recommendations or accusations. Weston A. Price was a dentist, btw... and the foundation was founded some 50 years after Price died by a Master of Arts and a nutritionist whose views are "in opposition to the consensus of the medical and scientific communities" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_G._Enig
Patrick
Thanks Tuc. I wasn't aware who Weston was or is. I always take articles like this and scrutinize them. I just wanted another persons view on this article. I realize that too much of one thing isn't good either, but I was suspicious of the article's blatant BS with no merit to stand on. Take Care Patrick

cubby2112
We just posted a good article on soy here: http://www.precisionnutrition.com/members/showthread.php?t=10896 Great article, thanks for sharing it. I learned quite a lot. It is hard to find an article that examines soy objectively. They seem to be becoming more common, though.
tuc
Very good article, a great deal of proper information. However, I think you were way too kind to Kaayla about the Whole Soy Story. Just check her page promoting the book and you'll see what I mean: http://www.thewholesoystory.com/ After all, she IS heavily involved with meat industry sponsored lobby group: http://www.westonaprice.org/soy/soy_milkcheese.html Edited March 14, 2008 by tuc
Marcina
People in the meat and dairy industry are quick to put down soy. It's all bullcrap. If soy was really that bad for you, then there'd be hypothyroid shemales running around Asia getting artificially inseminated.
Kero
People in the meat and dairy industry are quick to put down soy. It's all bullcrap. If soy was really that bad for you, then there'd be hypothyroid shemales running around Asia getting artificially inseminated. They have never eaten a lot of soy in Asia, and they never ate something like soy isolates there before. In old eastern books soy is shown in two ways - as food and as a poison. I think that the truth with soy lies somewhere in the middle; it is a shame that many vegans see it as something that cannot be dangerous and on the other hand the meat industry is lobbying it as something that will kill everyone if they eat it. beforewisdom
I used to think that too, until in a previous iteration of this thread potter mentioned that he has relatives in Asia who tell him that many people eat loads of soy and highly processed soy. I think you will also find this article reassuring viewtopic.php?t=8847&highlight=soy
Marcina
Anything can be bad if you eat too much of it. I'll never buy soy isolate protein shakes for example. I always use hemp. I diversify my diet as much as possible so I get the benefits of everything ^^

"Old" eastern books??? There's an old book that says apples are dangerous....figs too so I wouldn't exactly look at that.
CollegeB
I'm gonna go consume some soy isolate and then a boca burger followed by some time with my girlfriend. Probably get a workout in today as well.

So what is a more accurate average of soy intake per day in say China and Japan? I always assumed the figures of one or so servings per day were conservative, but would like to know how conservative.
