  1. I just had a health screening and got my cholesterol levels checked... my LDL (bad cholesterol) was so low the machine assumed error! Total cholesterol should be less than 200 and mine was less than 100 but I couldn't get an exact number because the machine doesn't calculate that low (what the screener told me). And my good cholersterol was 54 (for women optimal is 50-60). So I am so pleased (but not surprised) by the screening! Everything else was really good as well (blood glucose, blood pressure, etc.) The only thing I found odd was that I had a good BMI but only "acceptable" Body Fat percentage. The screener said that is likely because I do much more cardio than muscle building workouts so even though I am "fit" I don't fall into that category because of less muscle mass. I'm still a bit baffled by the explanation but I suppose it makes sense. I'd better hit the gym more for some weight-training to balance out my mountain-climbing cardio I guess!
  2. I am interested in fitting VV into my busy schedule! Will the dates coincide with AR conference? July 16th-20th I think? Perhaps the VVBF group should rent an LA vacation house for the duration? Might be less than hotel costs at that event time + all the fun of our previous VV vacation house rentals!
  3. Oh, I just realized the poll is closed.... that's ok though! I actually already have a saladaccu so would have passed on prize if I'd won anyway, I prob wouldn't, tough competition, there are some awesome entries!

  5. I still haven't found a green smoothie to top this one... one bunch of curly parsley and two mangoes... blended with enough water to preferred consistency.. mmmmm...
  6. Hey L&G, Robert was showing me pics last night of you guys and I have to say I am seriously impressed with your progress! Amazing! And even more so that your progress is based off of completely raw foods. Just wow! Hope to see you and Dani soon too!
  7. A vegan friend of mine offered me some arnica gel for pain to use topically (from a bad bruise on my shin when I got in a bike accident last summer). Apparently it's homeopathic and vegan... I kinda had doubts but tried it and amazingly the pain went away completely within hours and the bruise almost completely disappeared overnight. Maybe it worked or maybe it was coincidence or the placebo effect but either way I bought my own tube and luckily have had no need for it again since.
  8. yep, hi Zack! EDIT: UMMMMM, YEEEEEEEAP, BUDDY
  9. weird. and fun kind of a mesmerizing smiley...
  10. My most recent top vegan moment was two weeks ago, my boyfriend didn't know I was listening but I overheard him telling a random person all the benefits of a vegan diet and why dairy is so unhealthy. A little background... he was a meat & potatoes guy when we met 8 months ago and I never pushed him to choose a vegan diet, only lead by example and answered questions that he asked. It didn't take long for him to adopt a nearly 100% vegan diet and now he's spreading information as well
  11. are you looking to move to Portland soon?
  12. As far as apartments go in Portland I find they are all pricey unless you start looking further out like Gresham, Clackamas, Hillsboro, etc. The best living accommodations price-wise to be found close-in Portland seems to be rooms for rent. And Craigslist is the best resource for that I've found.
  13. but I think you would like the trailer for the movie, it's still a powerful message but short and more positive images on the connection of Earths primary life-forms. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yW3gunMSCu4
  14. Robert, I am completely of the same opinion as you. I prefer to focus on positive so that positive will result rather than focusing on the negative. However, I have tearfully watched (as much as I could) Earthlings early in my transition to vegan and it was a powerful tool of knowledge for me that did great good in hardening my commitment to compassion. I do recommend it to people who are ignorant of, blind to, or simply do not know much truths about the dependency and resulting treatment of animals. For someone who is already vegan, already compassionate in the treatment of animals and towards all life I do not recommend it because it is all about reality, a negative but true reality. But for those many who have not yet learned the truth I undoubtedly recommend it to see once, if they can even make it that far.
  15. I made some banana bread for the holidays using vega. The not-so-vegan family I gave it to loved it but I personally thought it made it too sweet.
  16. There's a movement of citizens inspired by the presidential campaign who are now submitting ideas for how they think the Obama Administration should change America. It's called "Ideas for Change in America." One idea is titled: Vegan school lunch options. You can read more and vote for the idea by clicking the following link: http://www.change.org/ideas/view/vegan_school_lunch_options The top 10 ideas are going to be presented to the Obama Administration on Inauguration Day and will be supported by a national lobbying campaign run by Change.org, MySpace, and more than a dozen leading nonprofits after the Inauguration. So each idea has a real chance at becoming policy.
  17. As long as their claims are 100% true I think Penta must be the best for bottled, although it's not cheap... www.pentawater.com
