  1. we have friends visiting from NC (which is awesome! too bad my throat hurts...)

    anyhow,

    we are having:

chick pea cutlets, green bean casserole, spiced mashed sweet potatoes, vegan mac and cheese, Kentucky derby pie (the greatest thing on earth!!), sparkling cranberry cider...and maybe blue berry pie. and we'll have to see what else. I intend to eat massive amounts of food.

happy "eat yo' face off" day!

  2. I don't know if it is true, but back in the 90s I read some stuff from some traveling marijuana legalization advocates. Their literature stated that like alcohol, marijuana can impair a person's reflexes, but give repeated exposure and practice of skills a person's reflexes will adapt. This could be bullshit, I have no idea if it is true.

I would think since it is a *medical* marijuana cafe there would be provisions for letting people come and go in peace. Since the folks going there are likely sick from things like cancer they have a friend dropping them off or picking them up. Designated drivers. Public transportation. Bikes. Etc.

I have no clue if that is true. I was talking with someone about functioning alcoholics (who are really only able to function if they have had alcohol...) it seems that they can function under the influence of a certain amount that for me would mean death.

by no means do I think they should drive...but, another debate is, if people are against driving under the influence of drugs, what about all of the prescription and over the counter meds that people take? I know for me if I have 2 excedrin I get all heavy feeling and want to pass out.

  3. As someone who has struggled with OCD my entire life, I'm not offended by Charlize's statement. People use bad wording all the time (much like how it was pointed out that "bimbo" is offensive to some, which is a word used here earlier), so take it with a grain of salt in that people's lack of best wording isn't always meant to be offensive, sometimes it's just a less-than-ideal way of putting things.

    well said and +1

  4. So when you leave the place get in your car, the police pull you over for driving under the influence of a controlled substance?

Doesn't make no difference whether you're under the influence of alcohol or weed does it? Not fit to drive and a danger to others is just that, no matter what the substance is.

At the club you can maintain that one drink per hour and stay under the legal limit, but for pot, I do believe it's test positive period.

this was my problem. I took a drug class, however, and found out that it is actually possible to test for THC levels. I assume that the pot at these cafes will contain THC (since some don't)

  5. they have used men in the past (Steve-O and Gonzalez, for example). But they do use more women than men. (like most ad campaigns)

As far as Charlize Theron. I'm not really familiar with her work or her as a person. As someone who has (and still somewhat, it's gotten SO much better) suffered from OCD. It's a pretty rude comment and she should think a bit more before she speaks, but it's unlikely that it was a jab at people with OCD.

  6. You make very good points, Chris.

As a woman, I find it tougher to find a decent job. There's still a wage gap between men and women with men getting paid more.

Not only that but sexual abuse, and harassment happens to women waaay more than it happens to men. The sad part is that most women are too humiliated an/or ashamed to report it.

The occurrence of sexual abuse and harassment (including domestic violence or crimes) among men is actually a bit higher than is thought. Unfortunately it often goes unreported because doing so would not be seen as "the manly way" to behave. which is a damn shame!

As far as Peta's campaigns. I think their stupid anyhow. they tend to use people who, besides fur, don't really give a crap about the movement. Celebrities, for an example, who I'm more than sure wear silk gowns or ties and leather shoes...

I consider myself a feminist (but I think it is important to fight for the rights of both genders!). But I don't really have that much against these campaigns. I think there are bigger things to fight about. you need to pick your battles, you know? I'd rather just roll my eyes at any peta campaign.

  7. Welcome! Greensboro is nice! I have 2 close (vegan) friends that live there. I will find out from them what resources they use the most. I know they like to eat at the Bobo house (which has been good when I've gone) I also know that there is a vegan meet up group for the area. Having people close by that are also vegan can be helpful.

  8. I guess this is the best section for this...

I was watching Rocky Horror the other day and Myke and I laughed so hard when we saw this part. Robert, if you don't already have a Halloween costume, you should be Rocky. lol, might be a little awkward at Boston Fegfest though.

and yes Octopussoir I did not embed it because I don't know how!

  9. I'm very on edge about it. On the one hand i'm not so sure of a vaccine that was created so suddenly and is obviously not vegan. on the other hand, I go to a school that has already seen quite a few cases and 3 young healthy people have died in the area. I just feel like maybe it would be a good idea, my school is holding a clinic on tuesday...
