  1. Heya Jacqueline!

    Good to see yr post.

Some general tips: Shop around, buy whats on sale & use coupons!

For Portland area folks the #1 book I suggest for keeping yr vegan food bill down is the Chinook Book: http://www.chinookbook.net - they also have these for Seattle & the Puget Sound area, Minneapolis/St. Paul + the East Bay area in California.

It runs $20 & is well worth it! It has tons of coupons for food, grocery stores, restaurants & a whole lot more. I have LOTS of coupons left over from the 2007 CB that I'm happy to give ya for free. Between using coupons & buying stuff that's already on sale (preferably both at the same time), my family often saves as much as half or more over the everyday price of things.

There's also coupon books available for free at People's Food Coop, New Seasons, Wild Oats & Whole Foods.

Food 4 Less often has the best prices on (non-organic) produce.

Grocery Outlet has many organic & natural food products available well below what yr likely to pay elsewhere - the selection is always changing so it's a bit of a treasure hunt!

Farmers Markets & roadside produce stands can have great prices.

Trader Joes has great prices on some things.

    Hope this helps!

  2. Sorry about the late notice folks - a Portland events email list is a great idea! With our friend in town we're doing a lot of stuff over the next week & everyone here is invited to join us. PM me with a phone # or something if ya want last-minute updates.

Tomorrow 7 of us Portland folks will head to Seattle! See ya then Billy?

  3. Hey Seattle folks - let's hang out!

Sorry for the last-minute notice but we just finalized our plans tonight. So far we have 7 folks heading north early Tuesday morning + room for 2 or 3 more. We plan to mostly do the food tourist thang. We're considering this: Breakfast at The Wayward Cafe, Lunch @ Arya's Thai buffet, Dinner @ Bamboo Garden + Mighty-O Donuts at some point. We may skip the buffet. Plus we wanna check out Left Bank books, the Pike Place market, Seattle Center + Space Needle & a ride across Puget Sound on a ferry.

  4. Heya folks,

Anyone else want to hang out? If so, PM me or give me a call - we dont plan ahead real well but love to have folks join us!

So far we've had a lof fun:

    - Saturday: Hero, Jessi, Gyre, xdarthveganx (+ his friend who I dont think is on here) & our lil' crew went out for dinner at Aladdins on NE 33rd. It was a good time & tasty food too!

    - Sunday we saw xdarthveganx, Jerome, Ana & her husband, Fogatron + lots of other folks at Food Fight & Scapegoat hoopla. Later on we hung out with OregonIsaac & his awesome daughter, Mogwai, gkleinman & Andesuma.

    - Today xdarthveganx & us hung out all day. We checked out the Chinese & Japanese Gardens, the Canby ferry the Oregon City Falls & viewpoint tower. Afterwards, we grabbed some bubble tea down on Hawthorne. To finish off the evening, xdarthveganx & Robert joined us for dinner.

    - Tomorrow: Seattle! I'll post a seperate thread for that adventure!

  5. Howdy all y Hola Tod@s!

We have a friend coming all the ways from Mexico to visit us next week - we'd love to have meet up & hang-out with VB&F folks! Potlucks, hikes, visits to other cities, the coast & mountains are all ideas we're considering: we'd love to hear yr suggestions of things to do & see - even better if ya can join us for the fun! Time, money & transportation issues may limit our ability to get out of Portland much or at all but if we can do it we'd love to take our friend up to Vancouver, Victoria, Seattle, Bellingham, Olympia & places along the way.

So who's up for hanging out with us? What should we do - where should we go?

  6. Sounds great Michael!

Ya'll coming out here would be great. While I struggle with constant urges to travel &/or move (it's really hard on me right now with summer coming to it's end), I really dont see us leaving Cascadia permanently. I have a particularly hard time seeing us leave the Left half of N. America - unless maybe we moved to anouther country... How do you feel about Costa Rica? New Zealand? The south of France?

If we ever did move east of the big river, Pittsburgh is the #1 city we've considered. Ya'll being there is definitely a serious plus for us! All that said, there's a decent chance we'll make it out yr way for a visit in the next year or 2... How's 2008 look for ya'll coming out for VV? What can I do to make it more probable?

  7. Looks like ya'll had a lot of fun!

Somehow, I missed that this was going to be such a big get-together & that Topher would be there & then Sweden?!?

Topher, ya planning to visit us down here in PDX while yr in Cascadia?
